A Word From “Inside”…
January 29, 2010 by Brown Shuga
Dear JC Readers,
After lots of thinking, back and forth emails/ texts & tons of hugs and apologies, The Jozi Insider and I have made peace. I know this may come as a shock to many who read my post last week but I believe I was hasty in making that decision & didn’t give him a chance to defend himself. In my 9-5 I preach about progressive discipline, fairness in handling any dispute & allowing a person a chance to state their side before you decide on appropriate action, but I didn’t do that last week.
Allow me to share a personal story….
I have this ex, a complicated kinda ex. He’s not an ex because I wanted him to be, but he’s an ex coz he did some very bad things. Before last week’s events, I had said I never wanted to speak to him ever again & when he asked if we could at least be friends, (why do they always say that?) I told him I didn’t want to be friends with him. So anyway, on Wednesday, I was alone, in my room, crying my eyes out over the “Poppy party drama” and before I knew it, I had sent my “ex” a BBM saying “Everything is going wrong!!!“. He called & as soon as I saw his name on my phone, the crying got worse (I LOL about it now) so I answered the phone but I obviously couldn’t talk properly & he couldn’t make out a word of what I was saying so we agreed I’d text him what happened. Anyway, he, as always, said all the right things and voila, the crying stopped. LOL.
Looking back at all of that, I realise that even though I may not wanna be with him anymore, I am not mad about what he did. I’ve really forgiven him for it all and you know, I just thought, if I can forgive that SOB (as he was affectionately known before last week) for what he did, why can’t I forgive Jozi Insider because what JI did is child’s play compared to SOB’s actions?
I know, I know, we are proving to be more controversial than the “celebrities” we write about and this may open me up to a lot of criticism but I’m sure about this decision so I will take the backlash like a man. With this I am burying that incident, I am moving on & looking forward to a less dramatic 2010, with lotsa “accurate” and “fabrication” free posts from the JC Team. I know there are lots of our readers who will welcome this decision and some will not be happy but I hope that one day those of you who aren’t happy, will find it in you to let bygones be bygones and move on. Here is a note from Jozi Insider:
Letter from Jozi Insider:
It is with much pain and embarrassment that I sit down to pen this note. As many of you know that I was dismissed and stripped of my duties as a contributor on JustCurious, this of course followed my erroneous manner in which I painted the picture on what went down at Poppy’s party. I will not delve into great details about the report as you all know it by now.
I took full responsibility for my actions and accepted my punishment by the publisher, editor and founder of JustCurious as I thought that I deserved what was coming my way. I would like to now take this opportunity to profusely apologize to all Jozi Insider followers for having falsely reported what I thought I saw happening on the night in discussion.
I believe an apology to be in its utmost sincerity when it’s not followed by “but” or any other justification; therefore, I will refrain from justifying my actions and avoid coming off as being defensive. I offer my heartfelt and deepest apologies to all those who were harmed by my speculations, which I believe I might have taken them too far and I also want all those who’ve been following and reading Jozi Insider to know that none of my reports were ever deliberately aimed at misleading you. I don’t like to fabricate stories because it serves no particular purpose to do so and it is never an intention of mine to falsely harm people’s reputation by writing untrue statements. Again, I got carried away by what seemed like a juicy detail, which I thought at the time you all deserved to be filled in on.
I hope that you will all find it in your hearts to forgive my error and pardon my oversight.
Jozi Insider.

Beverly Flanigan
P.S. The ex “obviously” checked on me the next day and the day after and as expected, it eventually came… he texted “So am I not allowed to see you EVER again?” LOL men! & no, I haven’t seen him & it’s not in my immediate plans. Ladies, now I know I’m not the only one with a “call-him-in-a-crisis” ex!

BS, u’re clearly a grown up with a Christian heart. It’s not easy to forgive yet it’s so healing.
Sbozh on Fri, 29th Jan 2010 1:28 am
It was a juicy 1 4sho – just be a tad sensitive with married celebs, they have families specifically children. I don’t have to tell you how negatively they can be affected.
Otherwise a good decision by comrade founder herself to reinstate & redeploy you to our non-underprivileged communities; or else we demand JC to be nationalized with immediate effect – LOL

Welcome back jozi!!
Kiki on Fri, 29th Jan 2010 4:06 am
I do not agree with Sbozh,JI should report the truth.Dont be sensitive on any1 thats doin what they arent supposed to be doing…married or not just spill the beans JI. Lelo u have a heart of gold and thank u for forgiving JI but please stay the hell away from SOB ngoba grand grand uyam user..lol BS,please get JI a camera,we need pictures that back the stories..besides camera doesnt lie..If JI had a camera at Poppy’s bash you wouldnt even have thot of apologising on that article,i am sho the young lady aka Mc D that was in Dawg’s car would be in hiding as we speak,uAnele worse. Welcome back JI,plz don disappoint me jus do yo thang rite..Even yo letter of apology jus kills me.U have a way with words.

Phathu Makwarela on Fri, 29th Jan 2010 6:39 am
I think i have been silent about this matter for far too long, I had no desire to upset the gods – incase i also get matching orders, but here is my two cent’s worth. I dont know who JI is and i have never even asked the editor who does the article…but i stand by what JI wrote, as a writer you go to these events and you see things – then you write about them, just bcoz u cant present evidence doesnt mean things did not go down. So nna i stand by JI…I also do not agree with the editor’s decision to take down the article…that was seccumbing to pressure from certain celebrities who cant even afford a decent lawyer – gossip will rattle few feathers and these TV people who have the delussion that they are celebrities better get used to them. As for JI being given his marching orders – that was a bit harsh. So many writers in established publishing get away with murder…I know that JC has a certain standard to maintain but casting one of our own to bleed in the street is not fair madam editor.
There was an article i wrote that pissed a tv star off….the editor gave a retraction for what seemed to be false reporting from my side: the truth of the matter is that i stand by each and every single word on that article… I was astonished by the backlash that our some readers hurled at me, just bcoz they choose to believe the tv star’s email over my reporting…its a catch 20/20 situation…one writes, you like it – then a tv person objects and the same readers who enjoyed ure writtings stone you without even giving you the benefit of the doubt. Its hard doing what we do, yes we will be stoned and insulted but this is a an entertainment blog….so shit is gonna hit the fan. Happy weekend ya all….
LeeM on Fri, 29th Jan 2010 7:07 am
Yipee JI is back, looking forward to ur well written articles again!
Mogwanthi on Fri, 29th Jan 2010 7:28 am
Ncooooh madam editor that was sooo sweet of you, and so brave of you to admit your mistake of being harsh and bringing back JI..
Welcome back JI, and cant wait to hear your juicy stories again!!
P.S BS, when one of your writers writes something about your friend, or celeb that you know or whatever else then its NOT your fault and you dont have to apologise to anyone…Wait for the writer to come and defend his/her stories should anyone object to what he/she wrote..
and those married celebs having an affair, should not blame JC when they are the ones not hiding their affairs and putting them on twitter for all to see and taking their makhwapeni’s to public!!
Thank you very much for bringing JI back, we love him like that!!!
Mogwanthi on Fri, 29th Jan 2010 7:30 am
I like your quotes today, especially the one about forgiveness..NO in fact all of them are motivational to me…

BS,,,Glad u brought back JI,,,I still believe he didn’t take us for a ryde, he just wrote what he saw. A camera unless a hidden one is a plus, but i dont believe that a story can only be true if there’s photographic evidence. Mind you, its not always easy to take pics when you’re an undercover journo.
Looking forward to JI’s next article and please do not be intimidated. Continue telling it as it is!!!!!!!

There is nothing wrong with changing your mind BS, all the best. this incident was a blessing in disguise to teach you something, I’ve learnt something as well
Vesa on Fri, 29th Jan 2010 9:32 am
A few things that I’ve learned and come to accept in my short career:
1.In business, there are no friends
2.If you are a leader/ person in a management position, there are tough decisions to make daily…..some people will like your decisions, and some will not.
Enkosi on Fri, 29th Jan 2010 9:38 am
So so happy JI is back
Jozi Outsider on Fri, 29th Jan 2010 9:40 am
@Brown Shuga: It must be difficult being a leader but i think you did OK under the circumstances, it was easy for us to judge from our office desks but you handled things well. I think this has been ONE of the most chalenging phase of your writting career, mara i stand to be corrected. I honestly didnt stop reading JC’s articles ever since that infamous story by JI. I can imagine how tough it has been for you to make decesions, particularly taking into consideration: Morals, Ethics, Friendships, Facts or Fiction, Perceptions, Business and Legalities. But these things happen, this website, as Phathu rightfully said, is an entertainment web/blog site, and sensitive celebs must get over it. They just haven’t gotten used to the nature of blog sites here in SA, this is a bit too new and a bit too close to home for them, that’s why they were so reactionary.
But anyway, I’m glad JI is back, but i hope he comes back with NO FEAR and NO FAVOUR, we want him as raw as he can be.
Celebrities must know that perceptions are much more real to us than reality, so as i once said before, stay away from bad press. As for you BS, I wish you all the best, stay strong and be consistent, this was indeed a learning curve. BTW i also follow u on Twitter, please come back, your updates must be stuck at 12 000tweets by now, its time to move on.
Happpy Weekend ya’ll and May Serena Williams and Roger Federer WIN, as for Egypt, well, i frankly dont care.

Dladla on Fri, 29th Jan 2010 10:33 am
Phathu, I couldn’t have said better myself. I believe that, as beautiful as Ms Brown Shuga is, she is a bit of a coward (I don’t mean this in a bad way at all).
I should think, you’re aware that not everything posted on this website will not please everyone(every celebrity= your friends).
Stand your ground sisi… When it comes to writing, leave your emotions pha ngasemnyango and face the music.
By establishing JC, you have brought hope to some of us. Also, JC did not only prove that every positive dream is achieve-able, we have also fordged friends and ‘business’ partners here. I am talking about people who have serious interest in the media world.
When you put your emotions before objectivity, Facts cannot be found. Hence, I think you should choose as to which category does your website fall under, between Journalism (blogging) and PR (blogging).
Anyway, I agree with Phathu when he said:
“…as a writer you go to these events and you see things – then you write about them, just bcoz u cant present evidence doesnt mean things did not go down….” Absolutely true.
Ms Brown Shuga, Madam editor, Madam Founder, I think it is time you notify your celebrity friends that what is written here is factual in the sense that your writers went and saw ingxaki isenzeka. But, if they claim it’s a lie, let them state their own side of the story.
Yes, it’s good that they hit back with their PR damage control statements. I mean, that actually allows them to bring their own narration to the story, which then leaves the reader to pick and choose what to believe.
Also, not everyone loves profound stuff like Dladla. Abanye abantu like enterainment, sport, gossip and business.
So, my request is, if you cannot stand to be objective, or to deliver facts as they are, let your writers argue their cases through writing, writing on this website and wena you will not be to blame as you didn’t write such pieces.
Kabzan on Fri, 29th Jan 2010 10:40 am

Jozi Insider on Fri, 29th Jan 2010 11:17 am
WOW! Thank you all so much for the love shown. All your comments are taken into consideration and you’re just a candy floss nation of beautiful people.
No, I would rather not write anything at all than to give you a watered-down version of the actual story. Remember, nobody else knows who I am (and I plan to keep it that way), so there will be no brown-nosing from my side and kissing ass has just never been my style. I will report it as I see it and I will not compromise the JI voice in any story.
There is absolutely no beef, nor there ever was, between JI and BS nor did I take her to any CCMA. Fortunately, we were able to separate business life from our private lives. So, we remained friends even during the “storm.”
Taking a camera with me won’t work because people will know who snapped them, which would reveal my identity. Perhaps, I can find a way to capture those moments, Gossip Girl style?
Stay tuned!
xoxo,
Jozi Insider.
Lwandie on Fri, 29th Jan 2010 11:35 am
Chin up B.S.there is no shame in changing one’s mind at all.In moments like this when so many voices are speaking to you,it is important to hear your own voice and order your steps according to what you feel is right.
We all have our opinions as readers and the majority of those opinions mean well-but ultimately J.C is your baby. You know the moral ethics and writing principles that guide you,you know what you would do or wouldn’t do for a story and how far you want to push boundaries. You have the prerogative as writer to decide the type of writer you want to be recognized as.Everything has consequences when we are buildng our careers and reputations, and no matter how seemingly minor, its always worth thinking beyond today when taking decisions.
Yaa at the risk of sounding like a holy cow and taking Manchooza to church lol,I just think while its well and good to tell the truth, there are definity ther things higher than truth.Yes they are celebrities and they chose the lime light etc etc,but ultimately they are human too and need the same moral consideration we expect in our own insignificant lives.Sho uMgozi siyawuthanda-we all love to glimplse into that charmed existence and find out if semi-gods ike Sizwe Dhlomz actually wake up with morning breath like the rest of us etc…but shem there are limits which sadly because of the Paparazzi culture we seem to have forgotten.
k no cyber spears bathong-this is just my opinion which of cause stands corrected…and its Friday so be kind xx

To BS. Firstly I love ur site, its been a breathe of fresh air.
Don’t let these “celebs” put u under pressure, if u let them dictate to u, will have a lot of problems. I’m saying this bcoz i think they really stressed u out, which influenced ur actions.
If the story JI wrote was false then thats that, all they had to do was present their side of the story or shut the %&#$ up.
Real celebrities get serious issues written about them on blogs everyday, If they have issues they present their side of the story n keep it moving, its the nature of the beast. U don’t owe people ten thousand apologies.
And PLEASE keep in mind that even if u don;t agree with what most of us r saying, we have ur best interest at heart, we want ur site to be a massive success.
U wont get the job done if u keep trying to make ur “friends” happy. u can’t please everybody.
Kiki on Fri, 29th Jan 2010 12:32 pm
Poor Brown Shuga, when she showed JI the door ( which she felt was the rite thing to at the time) guns were blazing with readers mad at her,now she anounces JIs return (which is what she feels is the right thing to do NOW ) but still people are not satisfied becoz they keep on reminding her of the SO CALLED WRONG DECISIONS she apparently made.Guys BS is human and definately not a remote control. Can we stop dwelling on the past and move on.No one is immune to the trials and tribulations of life,NO ONE.Just as we fall we get up, thats life.
BS has a good heart and she feels deep, that is why she makes such decesions and the fact that the word I AM SORRY is not difficult to come out of her mouth shows just how humble she is.
Noma on Fri, 29th Jan 2010 12:40 pm

I just read ur comment after i had posted, I co-sign with everything u wrote.
Lelo shouldn’t be pressured by people who talk a lot but will not be able to afford a damn lawyer.. please.
SA is not a celebrity crazed culture so they should just be happy that they do get a bit of attention and remember that they r not different from everybody else, the normal non-celebs in this country r the ones who do it big. Reality Check!

Yay! Well done to Brownshuga. I think you are awesome, and I think you are really something special and rare.
People will never be happy (including us readers). It’s easy for us to have a long list of requirements of you as we sit behind our computers anonymously slurring insults at you or the people you write about, as we know we will not be held accountable.
Ultimately I preach a message of starting on a new slate. Love your writing and your site. You’re doing a great job.

I have never seen such unproffesionally ran occoupation/organisation/website….. LELO or BS u must learn to trust your stuff/employees. If you send them out to do a job whatever they come with u must regard it as Genuine and to the point. you should not rely on what your celeb friends are saying in retaliation to what has been published. You hired JI with confidence in him so when he does his job yuo should not play hire and rehire to him like a YOYO!!! u must understand the stress levels that u ve put him through, so would suggest u compansate him for all the stress u ve caused forgiveness se GAT!!!
Lulz on Fri, 29th Jan 2010 4:27 pm
Lets not be haters ppl, BS did a noble thing by apologising which some of us wudnt have done. It takes a strong character to admit dat u were wrong.Welcome back JI

ntshepeng on Fri, 29th Jan 2010 6:11 pm
Uhhhhh weeee!!! People should start their own web sites and do as they wish. If you can’t, then let those who can and have do what they want on their own website.
Wena Lelo, thank you for bringing Jozi Insider back on my computer. I was tired of googling him in any case. thought he may have started writing elsewhere under the same alias.
Friday…made!
