Jozi Insider At Poppy’s Bash!

poppyI found joy in the most unlikely place; Cool Runnings North Riding! Yip! That’s where Poppy (5fm DJ) and Kim (of Ventilation) – and much later Pabi Moloi – were celebrating their birthdays. It was a delightful afternoon/evening! Poppy did not spare on invites; even 5fm auxiliary (those would be cleaners for those who are not acquainted with PC terms) staff was present.

Arrived in the dodge corner to find countertops and tabletop dancers swaying their stiff hips to DJ Fresh’s cool House mixes while the usual suspects were in toilet cubicles by the dozen gearing up to be in a party mood – as the saying goes, they were switching from dust to splash.

Bumped into Anele who was in her usually bouncing-off-the-walls mood, carrying an ice-bucket on her head stacked with booze offering empty-handed (do you blame them? it’s January-fever!) unknowns shots to atleast quench their dry throats. This Anele girl has a good heart! But I was a bit stunned by the stilettos. Reasons: a) it’s cool runnings, b) she was too drunk, very risqué and finally c) she looked like she was about to strike oil, with all those sweat beads on her forehead – I had to make note of keeping away from her.

Bonang also made an appearance, then again she was threatening on Twitter that she was not going to miss the doo. She was in high spirits but bored everyone by constantly “über twittering” about how fabulous the event was and and and… and the embellished doekie on her head? Actually, I’ve made up my mind, she’s a bore! NEXT?

Precious Kofi of Precious Africa made a rare appearance too. She looked fragile standing in the corner being hovered by Anele-sized men. Someone needs to get her a whistle in case they decide to get a little too friendly with the pocket-sized darling.

Never one to miss-out on anything (seriously, she’s everywhere), Mokgadi Seabi (City Press journo) was also present with an entourage of shadows. She looked amazing in a blue playfully-slutty dress and pink stilettos (another victim of overdressing unnecessarily). She danced and drank the night away and vanished just as quickly with Gabi Ndebele (The Times journo)

giliIt was a Lesbian fest with Sade Giliberti (of Yo-tv and So you think you can Dance fame), Pabi Moloi’s dancing partner (or is there smoke there?) yes, the white girl wearing the Panama hat -, and several podgy girls lurking in dark corners. In short, I’ve discovered the lesbian watering hole; COOL RUNNINGS!

On the subject of funny characters, I stumbled across the hilarious David Kau who was arguably the oldest person at the event (with the exception of the bulky DJ Fresh).

He was perambulating the length of the venue looking for someone to share his bored-sentiments. With no one giving him adequate attention, of course he’ll be bored. To remain relevant, he should’ve cracked a joke or two on stage. Better yet, stay home – and loose the silly Gucci thing that constantly graces your head, the mileage on that hat must be shocking, enough now!

Got a glimpse at Dione, Diane or something from Jenerik Soulz (the ones who brought us Room Service and Quick Fix) who had her hair in an elaborate 3 ponytail mess dancing, or rather teasing, the white man by her side. TJO! Honey… relax! This girl needs a publicist AND very fast!

Dineo Ranaka was also there. Quiet as a church mouse, stiff as my drink and as exciting as a blank page – what more can I say, she’s no eye-candy! Keeping it in the Metro-fm family, Lupi graced the doo with his presence – I like him too much to air his laundry, but he was there! Oh heck; who is the boy you were with? The one who followed you everywhere? Yes, the one salivating when you were doing the salsa?

And then the adorable DJ Milkshake took to the decks, accompanied by the arrogant (apparently shy) Sizwe Dhlomo (does he DJ now?) who was also in high spirits, actually greeting and smiling at guests. I love January! It makes people so humble!

Did I mention that no-one left sober? Yup! Had a good laugh at Anele sitting flat on the floor in the courtyard, unable to string a sentence together without hiccups. Still on Anele; she went home with Sizwe Dhlomo – I hope they’re neighbours or there’ll be lots to report later this year. While a certain “DAWG GP” left with a lady who wasn’t his wife, I’m not revealing any names!

Happy Birthday Poppy! Kim! And to you too Pabi! Enjoyed the food-free environment (but a welcome drink would’ve been nice!). *wink*

    I was at the party, but had to leave early…what time did you get there? Were you even invited? LMAO!

    Anyway, lemme kill the Anele/Sizwe thing right now… Anele was in a car accident last week so she’s without a car, I’m sure Sizwe was just giving her a lift home. (I think)

    I had mega fun at the party, Poppy was the perfect host, it was just a pity that I missed all the drama you talking about.

And you rightfully said you left early, so how can you dispute things that your own coleague said to have witnessed with his/her own eyes? I’m just saying, it doesnt reflect good on you,especially to us, the readers and followers of your blogspot. It makes us feel that you are defending those celebrities who may be your friends, which would be unfair to others whom you dont like.
    If you are going to GO AT THEM, please GO ALL THE WAY. But above all this, i think JustCurious is a great site for mzantsi folks. At least we have our own Perez Hilton in Jozi Insider.

    One, I know Lelo didn’t write this. I can appreciate the difficulty you went through publishing this because some of the people here are your friends. Those who are your friends mentioned in this must distinguish between the fact that you just run the blog.

    Having said that, the person who wrote the article has had several inaccuracies. One, Anele’s car was in accident. Secondly I got a lift with Sizwe home. Sizwe didn’t take Anele home. The married person you speak of didn’t leave with the person you implying because several of us were with the person you’re talking about until the late hours of the morning after we left the party. That is all.

    I understand this opens me to an attack or some slight but I felt that I must come here and defend these people with facts not possibilities. I submarine comrades.

    Why would Jozi Insider lie to us?

    Because stories with a bit of juice and spices get gullible people talking, which in turn makes a blog hott- ie, number of replies it gets.

    Unless the JI followed all these people around and actually saw everything that happened, s/he is not in a position to speculate about where left with whom and why they did that. Nor can s/he insinuate that certain people are Lesbians when s/he actually NEVER saw them doing anythign to suggest that.

    I suggest JZ really start writing articles with pictures of all things shim sees from now on- that way we can all have proof that she does indeed know what she is talking about.

    @PIZ: Who exactly is JZ? And who are you? Where is the relevance of such a question???

    Must say I am EXTREMELLY disappointed with just curious for opting to be an online Shwashwi as opposed to a tasteful entertainment site. I, for one supported Lelo when she started this site because I thought it would be a respectable, fact-based platform where we would get accurate and well-written entertainment news. I did not support the site because it would “GO AT CELEBRITIES, AND GO ALL THE WAY”. That means your very premise is biased and it goes against the most basic principles and ethics of journalism.

    The low road is always easier than the higher one and will probably get you more hits and comments. In fact, its the path most of our country chooses which is why we remain a country of mediocrity and we find joy in reading pieces that put down others like this. But I for one, know that there is much more joy and challenge in traveling the path less traveled. And the impact you leave is worth a lot more than just being a clone of someone else.

    So yeah, thank you Just Curious, you are officially off my bookmarked pages, but don’t worry, there’ll be plenty more who’ll take my place and appreciate your negative content…just ask Sondeza.
