Wow! I think I know how Penny Lebyane feels about landing this now. For so long she has wanted to have her own TV show and I guess 2010 will go down as the year it finally happened!

Starting on Monday, 01 February @ 21:30, The Phly One will be hosting Motswako on SABC 2 and hayi shem, am happy for her. According to Sunday World, Penny was one of the people who auditioned to host the show, alongside u Busi Mahlaba. Kuthiwa uBusi has been given the boot due to her poor command of Sesotho. Akutsho mna, it’s the Sunday World that says that. Remember THIS article?  The paper told her she was going even before SABC/Production house gave her the news. hehehhehe mara amaphepha ayaphapha maan!.

I asked SABC 2 what they did with Busi and I was told “She left to pursue her private business interests.” MMhhh…I’ve heard that one before! We wish Busi luck with whatever venture she will be taking up next. I just hope it is not True Love magazine again, she did enough damage already. Enough to last this lifetime. All the best.

And, yho, whatever it is the Metro FM ladies are doing, they are doing it right because Melanie Bala also has her “Let’s Chat With Mel” on DSTV and I have only heard nice things about it so far.

I’m really happy to see these sistas progressing and I think u Penny has really worked hard to cement her place in the industry and after all the ups and downs she’s been through, she certainly deserves this break.

Well, congratulations to Penny and Melanie on their new talk shows and I hope this does not mean Unathi will also be getting a TV talk show. Thiza!

    Haibo…. she did hav her TV show nje “sort-of” … it was Women in Science or something… aired weekely by SABC2…. or was that sumbody else? Eish, its the time I was still a drug addict… I washed away some memories during my rehab….! Eish, gud luck P… I can’t remember why I alwaz miss Motswako..

    BS: gape Penny was not the first choice the channel wanted to takeover from Busi. A certain TV star turn Radio Dj impressed the producers and the channel so much that they wanted her to takeover as in last year but the woman said HELL TO THE NO: she is not returning to prime tv to speak vernac…

    Sasha, last nite Mel’s show had Uyanda talking about DFC (on same day Mika breaks the Gert/Uyanda break up, how weird), thereafter there was a stylist and then I saw something about gardening, that’s when I tuned out.

    I think Penny is one of the most hard working women in SA I know(with Ms Brown Shuga second on the list). So, congrats from my side Ms Penny Penny. Agh, I mean, Ms Penny Lebyane…

    As for Unathi, Radio suits her just well. I don’t want to see her hosting any TV show while I am still a virgin. Well, sort of a virgin. She doing bad as it is in Music (in my opinion)…

    Mel… She had to do something where people will notice her without any sort of Antourage; the likes of Mr. Bala, Unathi and Glen.

    Ladies, gays and gentlemen, allow me to shift the spotlight from well-known people over to Melanie Son-Bala…

    Atleast, some women are working for themselves. Unlike some people who snatch married-friend’s men to get money…

    I am not Motswako’s target market. i’d rather watch Speak Out. Well done Penny. Missed Mel’s show cause of the soccer but i think it’s one of those shows you either get or don’t.

    Melanie Bala also has her “Let’s Chat With Mel” on DSTV and I have only heard nice things about it so far.

    BS – who are these people lying to you? Who is telling you nice things about it? Is it Mel hersalufu or Zwai? Then if its them, Im not surprised.

    Last nite it was my 3rd time tuning in. uMel is plain boring. Unyabile, cold, deppressing, monotonous tone. The only reason the show is still watchable is simply becuase of the guests. And btw, last nites guests are way better that the others she had on the show. I don’t even know how to explain this, o jele boroko.

    Please ask cnga she is her groupie and she will tell you. The show can be much way better if they can replay the host. Ndithi, kunyabe neaudience. The other week they had this gogo who was just clapping aimlessly. “sigh”

    I think the audience is rent a crowd. I thought her friends would grace her first show with their presence. Probably they were there and were stiff bored.

    Dig Melanie to bits – very witty …look forward to her tweets and now and then she throws in great comments on The Avenue (when I bother to listen) BUT (you knew the BUT was coming) – hhayi – the TV Show thing is not working out. She needs help otherwise I don’t see a second season.

    Re: Unathi also getting a TV Show — thinking about that made me yawn…like seriously.

    Back to Penny – not my favourite radio voice – but people say she’s cool so I’ll cut her some slack. I hope she’ll do well with the Motswako target market that I’m obviosly not part of.

    Congrats to Penny, shame she’s been Hustling enuf..its about time. I stopped watching Motswako after Carol stopped hosting it. So i hope Penny will bring in some vava voom to the show so that i can watch again.
    on Mel ‘s show: eish i expected a lil more…not as exciting as i thought,can be boring…

    Yaa uBusi Mahlaba single handedly undid uthando lwami for True Love Mag Tjo!! such damage for a magazine that was so stylish,well presented and informative is criminal.She had huge shoes to fill obviously after Khanyi and she did not even attempt to fill a toe’s-width of them.It got to a point engaqala ukunxapha each time my True Love subscription came off my account and I thought ” **insert expletives of choice**…to hell with giving new blood a chance etc etc” I hope whatever private business interest she is pursuing is not remotely related to any well established brand.

    …eeeish but this is not about Busi so once again congrats Penny!!

    Congratulations to Penny! She has undoubtedly thee most annoying voice known to man but she’s that one colorful character so I think she’ll do a fairly good job. Last time I watched Motswako was when the Umorons were there (known to the layman as the cast of Umoja) with their drunked out producers, Thembi and Thandi. I lose all respect for the aged who drink Gordon’s dry with their breakfast. This episode was of course long before Carol’s Great Trek.

    We hope and pray the Penny will bring the phlyness back.

    On the subject of Mel and her show……I take a moment to bow my head, shake it and give a huge sigh. Bless.

    I follow Mel on Twitter because her tweets are smart, witty, and very entertaining. When I heard she was gonna be hosting her own show ( instead of being Glen’s second side-kick, kinda like random Black girl in all American high-school flicks) I went on top of the Halelluiah Mountains and did the Halelluiah Dance. And then, behold the long anticipated show. (I shake my head again). What a drag! Watching the laundry spin in the dryer would’ve been more exciting. What a shame beacause I don’t think she’s THAT dull in real life.

    Anywho, I justified it by saying, she’s a news reader. Maybe she thought she was reading the news. One day, before her viewers who aren’t in nursing homes have fled, she’ll put a lil’ umftatat to the show. Otherwise………..I shake my head again.

    As for Unathi and a talk show. Seriously? I’d rather eat marbles then try and excrete them rather than volunteerily watch her.

    Mina i like person because she’s got stule and has a welcomimh face,but i don’t lidten to her on radio because she’s just too loud,listening to her on radio is like im listen those loud dj’s from tut top stereo. Penny for me is like those people that when you look at them and what they’ve achieved,you then feel at ease knowing that you don’t have be rslly brilliant,informed and learned yo mske it life.Just hussle and you’ll achieve.
    Still love her irrespective but will wstch Motswako once,just to see hoe she’s settling in,the show has lost its relevence for me.

    yho guys am sorry but Penny is way too much of an airhead for me…..she is stylish yes….but hay hay…the grey matter is non-existent…the final straw for me was when she was doing ‘who’s song is it anyway?’ and she goes….’we’re now doing who’s song is it anyway…we’re going to play you a Sade’ song and would like you, the listener, to tell us who’s song this is’…..then she goes…’umm did i just give out the name of the artist now?’………I mean really now please man…..I hope Carol knows what she is doing….and the other day she was going on about the LSD screen…took me a while to figure out that she was actually referring to the LCD TV screen….*heavy sigh* and no, I am not exaggerating…this did happen!

    Mel’s show was not all that bad in my view…can’t really tell as yet as to whether or not it’s a keeper.

I have not had an opportunity to watch Mel’s show but will.Unathi does not have the face for TV (nothing personal), besides we’ll probably get to hear more about her life, her holiday in Port St Johns, her pre-marital counselling in the “rare occassions she talks about herself”
