BET SOS Help for HAITI Perfomances

So, have you guys donated to help Haiti?

Hayi kabi but I find it weird that the SABC hosted a telethon for Haiti & actually that some local people are doing this and that for Haiti. Many times before I’ve watched the news and heard of amatyotyombe (shacks) that got burnt, flooding in the Cape etc but I’ve never seen the SABC or local celebrities go up and down trying to help mara when it happens in Haiti we are asked to donate. Please ask me to donate school shoes for Lupi’s cause or help DJ Sbu buy school uniform for the kids, I will. I don’t mean to sound insensitive but charity begins at home. What are we doing to help out here, at home?

I respect people like Lupi Ngcayisa and DJ Sbu because I know they do all this charity work for the love of Mzansi and the youth of Mzansi.

Anyway….back to HAITI. They are getting the help they need, and that’s a positive.

BET recently hosted a concert and celebrity telethon aimed at several organizations providing immediate relief in Haiti. The two hour concert entitled, “SOS Saving OurSelves – Help for Haiti,” featured the following perfomances and it was all for a good cause!

The crowd went wild for my boy Breezy!

Everyone’s been sidelining this poor kid since that “incident’ and I’m really glad BET had him on for this Haiti SOS Telethon.

Keri Hilson also performed her “Knock You Down”…

Wyclef (of course) featuring Akon

…and the overrated Mary J Blige performed with Jazmine Sullivan

Robin Thicke also did his thing for a good cause.

One of my favourite rappers, Ludacris, featured by Monica …She still got it!! Love her.

Nas performed with Damian Marley… (does this Damian have his own songs? He’s always featured on this and that song)

So, have you guys donated to help Haiti?

Hey love, Damien has quite a few songs. As for the performance with Nas, it was their first appearance prior to their collabo. album ‘Distant Relatives’ due for release this April.

    Paz.

To be quite honest i also have reservations…aka..no..i did not. It was okay for the SA rescue people to go there to contribute manpower, but what is happening is really one of those laughing with the outsiders when at home there is no laughter at all.
Even the bible says..before you approach judea, samaria and all other places..start in jerusalem..ekhaya..

Finally someone who shares my sentiments. For a minute there I thought I was the only one who had relised that mary j had reached and exceeded her sell by date. I think its high time janet jackson an jlo joined her in an indefinate retirement in front of the Mike.

As for the SABC telethon, eish asazi. Charity begins at home and all but two wrongs don’t make a right. Yes they should’ve done the same for all disasters which happened here at home, but I hope that we aren’t mean spirited enough to gladly turn the other cheek while Haitians suffer. This should used as a point of reference the next time another disaster occurs. As nonchalant as I can be, I choose to take the moral high ground on this one.

Tjo asazi ne, maybe there is something fashionable about high profile disasters kinda like wearing the red ribbon on the first of December and a pink one in October-but hey help is help I guess and its all good that resources are being channeled to Haiti from all angles of the world-hopefully in the future SABC and local Mzansi’s will take heed and be more proactive with disasters closer to home.

To be fair though there is a fair number of on going charities and voluntary programs that directly aid various South African causes (lets not forget the silent heroes and heroines out there who are sponsoring kids and running community projects etc),so in a way I think it is a nice gesture for Africa to give what they can to another part of the world for a change.

I said it on my blog (http://ulwazimgwadleka.blogspot.com) and I am saying it here (AGAIN);… it has always been good to sort out your own stuff at home before you leave to help outside your household.

Yes, it’s a good deed. But, we all know, SA has always needed help. But, AKUKHO BANTU BANCEDAYO.

It takes many months for the government to provide blankets, BREAD and clothes to people who have been hit by heavy rains and CT weather.

However, the Haiti-meko gets first-aid at all cost. Schools need stationaries, proper buildings and infrastrustures. How about the SABC provide help to such situations instead of shaking peoples hands with millions of rands.

Anyways, wasn’t SABC broke a few days back?
