The Insider Invades The Met

While Mr. President was out “planting seeds” with the women of the Republic, some members of his nation were off to the Kenilworth Racecourse in Cape Town to commit atrocious fashion acts at the 2010 J&B Met, whose theme was In Full Colour.

Of course no one was there to arrest them because the ever so efficient policemen and women were busy partying up a storm in a government-endorsed celebration. All I can say is, “Only in South Africa.”

Pretending to be paying attention to the horses on the racecourse, celebs flocked to Kenilworth in droves. Surely some of them were hoping to support one of the celebrated horses known as Iko Hashi, who looked like a freshly-bloomed peony in early spring. He/She is lucky the bees were not there to attack, or did they?

Speaking of horses, Dineo Ranaka of YFM (trust me, I got her pegged correctly this time around) had the audacity to show up in what looked like someone puked sherbet on canvas and draped it on her. It was by far the most disgusting outfit I saw and I really struggled to keep the digestion process from reversing itself. Was it Diamond Face Couture? Well, we did hear news that popular socialite-turned-dressmaker Uyanda Mbuli was dressing a few known people; this had to be one of them.

Come to think of it, Ms DFC should have been betted on as well. She would’ve done wonders on that racetrack. I’m sorry, but the irony is just too uncanny to resist. Get my drift?

Speaking of Face Coutures, was Khanyi Mbau wearing a Pearl Face Couture? This was another display of Haute chuck! This parody on Diamante Face Couture (or was that Diamond, heck I think the precious jewel has lost value at the rate she’s going) has been much awaited and if that’s all it has to deliver then back to the drawing board for the man-thief (I do not know why I insist on giving this girl a mention, but let’s face it, she’s exciting! Where else can you find someone whose vajayjay can shoot out a lamborghini and a BMW Z4 – other than Liopelo, ofcourse).

The thing about social events of this caliber is that you bump into people a wide array of people and it includes those whom life has just been too rough on. Has the Met lost its shimmer?

Spotted were members of the Dejected Women’s Society, which was graced by its prime executive members: Penny Lebyane, Basetsana Khumalo, Sophie Ndaba and others. They were also in full colour. There’s something about this theme that got almost everyone twisted. Clearly, they all just seemed to have taken it the wrong way. All three of the women mentioned above looked as though there were no mirrors on the way to the Met. And Sophie, wearing an Uyanda-made dress to an event of this nature must have taken guts, but then again, we can all see how large yours must be.

There were only a few people who got it right and that includes your gal B, who was impeccably dressed in a David Tlale dress. She looked radiant and has clearly outgrown the tutus DFC always insisted on her. With scissor legs like hers, she really should never have agreed to such.

Though she looked like melted bubblegum ice-cream, Thembi Seete looked youthfully elegant in her tutu. She was awarded best-dressed. I say that’s debatable.

    okay…this is not my cup of tea…but the article is soo funny…and i dont know if thats how it just is but, i never read good dress reviews when it comes to celeb events,just one or two…like in this case JI only likes Bonang’s dress…

    i mean…i think ladygaga always looks gaga in the staff she wears, im sure when i say she looks hideous, but the rest look okay to me…ba hlapile, ba aenile..but like i said this aint my glass of coke…??

    I was thinking of asking if JI didn’t go to the Mat but thought let me be patient.

    WOW my gal B was stunningly beautiful. She was also confident about her outfit. She tweetpic it all the time no matter how times people asked her to show them her pictures at the Met. She would just do it in seconds and I also wanted to see the full picture. She is beautiful shame David Tlale is the best, stick with him sisi and leave DFC and Gert is no longer there mos. And that guy behind her looks like was her date their outfits are matching. Now find a her a suitable boyfie for yourself not Euphonik hihihihi.

    I also like Thembi’s dress. She deserved to win I like it and it suites her perfectly. I really like it shame. Khanyi is always stunning at the Met. I like her dresses they suite her her very well I agree with Kiki. Khanyi works whatever dress she is wearing.

    Hayi Penny undiphoxile, what is she wearing a simple red dress, worse reeed hayi khona sisi. Carol Bouwer and her Motswako stylists are not to blame for this one or did she say you must not under dress me there sisi since I am your boss. Shame ingathi kuzobakubi eMotswako if this is the case lol. Khona what’s up with Motswako boss is she preggies. Her dress is so simple too.

    Anele should find someone who will dress her nice next time I don’t like what she’s wearing. It makes her look bigger. That dress Is so shiny like it was made in one of these coloured factories here in Cape Town. I’ll understand you if you say it was last minute shopping sisi. You must leave those shiny things to Jamali we understand them ke uba why.

    I’ll not comment about Sophie Ndaba I’ll live to Drum. I know they will give her a Cover (sigh). I always get so annoyed when I see her in the cover shame I am sorry.

They called a cab and when their transie came, they thatha’d icover as their transie turned out to be a TAZZ. Heh banna, njani na? I always thought you guys are organised mos. Well, Mrs Sedibe is organised, she was picked up by a Merc. The rest, they were busy asking ilift from people.

    Dineo Ranaka bathong, actually this pic looks better than the one on Mika Stefano’s blog. HORRIFIC! her hair & glasses were a NO NO! no comment about Iko Mash, & Anele.
    The twins as usuall, boring! they need a stylist. not a cheap one.
    Khanyi Mbau’s outfit was horrible, she can do better.
    Penny Lebyane’s outfit was dissapointing as well. too simple for the MET.
    As for Bonang, beautiful dress, but theme was COLOUR!! yellow nail-polish aint enuf!

    okay! i do not understand some of the readers’ comments: For JI to remain anonymous – pics have to be sourced from other people/avenues/sources (i think it would be a little too obvious if a camera flashed with celebrities in a compromising situation, the Insider would be outed immediately). I believe the Insider is doin a great job with the little resources available to shim.

    Keep it up and as long as there are pics to show that these people were present, the rest i we’ll just have to imagine (unless a photographer is supplied).
