The SAFTAs After Party Pics
February 22, 2010 by Brown Shuga
The South African Film & Television Awards went down at the State Theatre on Saturday night. Thanks to the Soweto Derby, I missed the whole “red carpet” thing (with all those fans who are screaming even when they have no idea who you are) and I missed more than an hour of the actual show. I got there late so I won’t complain about my seat… *cough cough*.
The two things about the show that irritated me though:
1. Hearing/seeing Isidingo win this and that award, How boring! This happens every year!
2. When they paid tribute to people who died, Mandla “Bongo” Thabethe was not mentioned at all and I’m positive their answer will be that the awards were about 2009 but really now, that was just too bad! Apparently, (because I wasn’t there when it happened) not even the person who accepted an award for Family Bonds mentioned him. Tjo!
Anyway, judging from the tweets I read during the show, most of the people who watched from home were bored stiff but umm…sorry for you guys but I actually had fun.
We stayed for the afterparty, well, frankly coz it was my only chance to get pictures but for the first time in my life (yeah I’m that boring), I stayed at a party till the music got shut down! Thanks DJ Switch for a great set, we had fun!
I don’t have much to say, will talk winners in another post, here are the pics I took at the after party. …

Linda Sokhulu (Best Actress in TV Drama) with her date Melusi Yeni and Keketso Semoko. Don’t know were that shawl thingy was going, it was hott.
On Ma’ Agnes, I know that Katlego Danke [who wore the same dress as Nthabi (??)] is a great actress & everything but what did she do in Generations that earned her a Best Actress Award? That award should’ve gone to Ma Agnes.

Model & former Scandal actor Daniel Hadebe was also there in one of these popular shiny suits…

Sorry that you guys can’t see her face but Rhythm City acrtress Nokuthula Ledwaba looked very cute. He frock hid her shoes so when I asked her for a picture of the shoes, she screamed “No!” so being a gal, I understood & backed off hehhehe. Nice gal!

Top Billing Presenter, Salamina was there with her husband, actor/musician Howza Mosese. These two are really cute man, look at him holding her bag and all… Ncoh…
For some reason I imagined him to be a bit stuck up but he’s actually quite friendly. Her dress was by Diamond Face Couture & his suit by Carducci. What I don’t know is whether they paid for the clothes or not. Or maybe someone must go check if that dress went back to the the DFC shop window. lol.
Zenzo Ngqobe (right) was nearby, I see he and Nokuthula nicely co-ordinated their outfits. I should have taken a pic of them together, silly me…
Heard Zenzo had a bit of an off moment when he presented an award with Pabi earlier in the evening? Fill us in folks, missed it.

Gorgeous actress Renate Stuurman was also there with her man Isaac Chokwe. Happy to see they’re still keeping it together after all these years.

Isidingo actresses Grethe Fox (Harriet) in her YDE dress was partnered up with Judy Ditchfield (Stella).

Clearly the honeymoon still ain’t over for actor Mutodi Neshehe and wife Leslie. Their little nunu is now 21 months old & he was complaining that the little rascal is destroying his house. hehehe.

Oh wow! I had such a groupie moment when I saw this guy. I was too embarassed to ask him what his real name is but do you guys remember Bra Biza?? This guy is a legend and he is such an amazing actor! He acted as a gangster, yes, there were gangsters on TV way before Papa G! If I’m not mistaken he was Bra Biza in “Dimilion tsa Kiriri”. Anyone who remembers?
I hope Ba Kae on SABC 1 will pay this gentleman a visit (instead of people whose whereabouts we are well aware of like Sello Maake Ka Ncube) & let him know how we valued his work and contribution to SA’s TV history. I promise to find out his name… just out of respect.

Eish, Pepi Kambule is one of my favourite, favourite, favourite actors in the country! Actually, I’m upset that I met him.. like seriously. I used to have this crush on him… thought he was like the cool/serious characters he plays on TV. Mandla in Soul City, Bongani in Mtunzini.com, do you remember him as Prince Dingaan in Backstage? heheh.
He’s a bit of a clown-er in real life and yeah there’s nothing wrong with it but mina I wanted the Mandla guy I see on TV so now thanks to our little encounter at the SAFTAs, the crush is gone. He’s still a nice great actor though & I guess that’s what matters. (not to me though)
P.S. My picture doesn’t do him much justice so here’s what he really looks like.

hehehhe.

Ooh wee! heheheh out of all the pictures I took pictures of, “Gladys” from Generations is the only one who first asked me “Is it for you or for work?“
I was like “Why??” and she told me she was just checking heheheh. I don’t know where that came from so I will leave it at that.

Super couple Nonhlanhla & Thabo Mdluli were there. Loved Nonhlanhla’s dress.

I was wondering what my first encounter with Bonang would be like, after she blocked me on Twitter, but she actually came to say hi hehehe.
She was definitely one of the best dressed women, if not the best at the awards and her dress was made by Uyanda’s fighting partner, Gert Johan Coetzee. Stunning Frock.
Bonang’s pictured with Thami Kotlolo, the brains behind the Feather Awards, launched in 2009.

Stylist Nthato Mashishi and Koyo Bala also stayed till the music was shut down. Someone mentioned Nthato’s suit in & Tom Ford in the same breath. I almost asked ” What is Tom Ford” then I figured…. let me shut up and not embarass myself in public. heheh #ExcuseMyFashionIgnorance

Personal Trainer & Zone 14 actress, Carol Behane (Lebo) showed off her hott bod!

Actress and Socialite Sophie Ndaba with Publicist Simphiwe Majola. Simphiwe is too funny… Loved how he kept introducing Tuks to everyone. Apparently he’s inspired Tuks’ new cleaner look. Not that we saw the difference really Simphiwe’s a cool character & always looks good. Even though I don’t like his shirt. But then again, after my Tom Ford thoughts, who am I to comment on Fashion… hehehe.

Okay, I don’t have anything to say.
Just wanna tell Khanyi that Amstel (dreadlocked dude) told me that he tried it with Mandla and he will try it again with Theunis Crous so hold on your (or is it Primrose’s) man!

I don’t know what kiddies show the guy in the white suit presents on SABC 2, but whatever it is, if he dresses like that on the show then I don’t wanna see it. heheheh.
The suit in the middle? All I wanna ask is when is this “shiny suit” season ending? Torture.

Aaaaah, legends in the making!
These are the two creators of SABC 1’s SOCIETY, Makgano Mamabolo (left) [was meeting her for the first time] & Lodi Matsetela (right). Truly inspiring young gals, love their work!

One of the people who looked super hot was Mokgadi Seabi from City Press. She’s a journalist who was dressed way better than a lotta “celebrities” who attended. Loved her lil’ dress.

My boy, Meshack Mavuso had his wife next to him the entire night. He was enjoying the party shem… I have a mini video of him commenting about the awards, will see if I can post it tomorrow.

Xolile Tshabalala looks so skinny maan, was shocked actually. I wondered if she’s always been like that and it was just TV that made her seem bigger? Seems she’s just as cheeky as Julia Motene though coz she went on stage and blasted people who called up actors telling them they had scripts for them even before they start putting pen to paper. Heheehe. Can’t believe people do that.
Before I forget, my most embarrassing moment at the awards was when I went up to Uyanda Mbuli to ask if I could speak to her, Uyanda greeted me back, introduced me to her husband and thereafter flatly ignored me and started to talk to someone who was passing. Tjo, I have never experienced anything like that and if it was about getting back at me for the comments on THIS article & THIS one, well, I say it worked shem coz I walked away from there with my “tail tucked in”. LOL
Someone needs to start selling crocodile skin for SA’s fragile celebrities, that person would make a killing. I also encourage everyone who reads this website to please take a minute and read our DISCLAIMER. Just to put things into perspective.
Well, those are all the pics I took of the celebrities. I had a lot of fun at the awards, even though I missed almost half the show. Before I forget, someone needs to tell sis Yvonne Chaka Chaka that she may be the Princess of Africa but she’s not the Queen of the SAFTA’s. That little stunt about her telling everyone to keep quiet was so misplaced it was not funny. Futhi why was she singing when she was just supposed to give an award? That vay’vay’ in her voice… hayi maan. She’s still a hott hott mama though!
Anyway, here are more pictures posted by The Times on their site…. (keep clicingk on the thingy to move to the next pics)
I also spotted Jamie Bartlett looking a lot different from his usual self. I don’t know if he’s ill, lost weight or is just getting old but I didn’t like it. Hope he gets back to his old self again. i didn’t take a picture of him coz I didn’t want him kissing me again. I’m still still recovering from last year’s kiss. LOL. He’s a very friendly dude, but I wonder why he ran over the Red Carpet like that instead of walking and greeting the cheering fans?
Check him out on this SAFTA Red Carpet Video, also by The Times.

I watched but went to bed afta an hour en a half was too tired. I did like the fact no one mentioned Mandla Thabethe en they cant argue the 2009 story coz they mentioned people who past on dis year. I was shocked when Shoki didnt win the best actress eintlik most of the results were shocking we were asking ourselves who were judges en what criteas they use for judging. BS- kushoda iifoto zamacleavage phela abanye amabele bewangaphandle wonke. he was even rewarded by Tshwane Metro with an award last year
SAFTAs are an excuse of awards.
if the company that was organising it had a tender from last year…i give up
after all the hic cups from the previuos award ceremony, i was actually hoping to see some changes…..but, same issues surfaced….seating arrangement, poor sound

@Sasha, no man sorry… I meant to ask ukuthi “when celebrities say they are dressed by so and so, does that mean they get the outfits and return them or do they actually pay for them.” askisi, english.
On John Kani’s wife, I didn’t see anything wrong with her dress. Why is it okay for white people to wear sleeveless dresses (coz that’s all it was really) but not okay for black old women to do that? Think to HOllywood, that lady is probably Halle Berry’s age. hehe. Actually, how is her outfit different from Harriet’s dress? They are the same age.+_
We can’t complain about her legs coz she had dark stockings on.

AND LIKE REALLY NOW, HE WAS MANDLA MTHEMBU’S NIGHTMARE, I DOUBT IF HE WILL BE CROUS’S TOO. NO MAN IN HIS RIGHT MIND WOULD LOOK AT THIS FROG TWICE. AS FOR THE ONE IN THE ASIAN CUT, NOW YOU KNOW WHY KIDS DON’T WATCH TV ANYMORE…
