There’s Still Time To Give…
February 24, 2010 by Brown Shuga
You can still give and donate a pair (or more) of school shoes & socks to Lupi’s Railway To Life Campaign. I don’t think there’s anyone here at home who still hasn’t heard about Lupi’s initiative to give shoes to less privileged kids mos neh? If you haven’t, then hayi, please get up from under that rock and google… :-)
The target for this year, is to collect 45000 pairs and distributing 5000 to each of our 9 provinces. The department of education gives Lupi and them a list of the most impoverished schools in each province and that’s how they decided where to take the shoes.
So if you have extra cash lying around, please put it to good use and buy a pair of school shoes for these nunus and if going out to buy the shoes is too much of a hassle, then just contribute an amount towards the cause by depositing money into the following acc….:
Name of account holder : Brown Shuga
Name of account holder: The Kit Group
Bank: ABSA
Branch: Siemert Road
Account Number: 404 950 4219
Branch Code: 52 33 05
You can put your name as reference and email your proof of payment to lupi @ metrofm.co.za & if you contribute more than 200 pairs of shoes then you get a 3 minute interview on Metro FM, as well as a mention on the City Press (Railway To Life‘s print media partner) but that’s not why you’d be doing this right…??
The campaing runs till 28 February 2010, so Happy giving folks!

Are people doing this for fame? Why is there gon be an interview with the highest bidder? Hayi no man, there should just appreciate the contributions equally which means dont disclose how much each person contributed bcoz some of us will donate wholeheartedly that 1 pair bcoz its what i can afford. So they must appreciate my gift the same way they as Motsepe or Lelo Boyana’s. This is not an auction or a competition..Darkies! SMH

I agree with you Nonkawu, what happened to left hand shouldnt know what the right hand has given. Akunikelweni bandla,l like the initiative, pls people shouldnt use it as a form of advertising themselves neh. Viva to the spirit of giving Viva *had to say that*

I have bought my helper school shoes for her kids, and tunic for the elder. I will be buying the young kid end of this month!! This made me feel good about myself
This is a great initiative and big ups to Lupi & all media partners and sponsors involved on this great project. There are less priviledged kids out there, and it hurts to see a kid goin to school barefooted.
The 3 minutes interview on metro fm??? *shaking head* That is unnecessary!
Lela on Wed, 24th Feb 2010 11:28 am
I wl keep giving in my own coner as the bible says my left hand must not know what my right is giving.
Mmapula on Wed, 24th Feb 2010 11:49 am
i want to meet Lupi in person, his looks fascinates me.
this is one great initiative and i hope it wont die as years passes. This reminds us share what we have with all those who are less fortune be it a neighbour, a stranger or anyone else.inspiring indeed.

We live in a country where the state of education particularly the state of education is rural areas is so bad that Metro Fm only thinks about buying shoes for this kids- I mean whats the point u get to school all dressed up, looking rather snazzy and you still get sub par education- come now Metro surely you can do better than dis!
GA on Wed, 24th Feb 2010 3:11 pm
@ Nonkululeko, u are part right about the sub par education bit BUT credit needs to be given to Lupi and his gang for the school uniform initiative.
This particular way of investing in education is very dear to my heart, very close to home. It makes a whole lot of a difference when you go to school properly dressed and not feeling below other kids. It affects the kids’ morale/confidence and therefore their ability to perform. I know there are many who made it wiothout, but kids are not all the same ( idont want to go deep into this…hope u feel me), and so for the sake of those whom this initiative will go a long way (especially on the inside out) i say it should be done.
Great job Lupi,…i havent read the article actually, i just know he does this, have known for years and this is one course i have always been supportive of.

@ Nonku….someone with a burden and a vision must follow suite and invest in the educating part of things. A lot needs to be contributed indeed,All are essential.
BuhleFab on Wed, 24th Feb 2010 3:50 pm
@ Nonkululeko, we should give credit where it is due. what are you actually doing wena to challenge the whole sub par education thing? At least Metro is dealing with a part of the problem even if its not in its entirety. We must start somewhere akere and i am sure the recepients of these shoes and socks will sleep easy knowing gore they actually have new school shoes to wear to school seeing that most of them also travel long distances. a re tlogeleng go complainer about everything.

Currently I am volunteering at a school in Pietermaritzburg every Saturday and Sunday teaching d Matrics maths and Science. I work with the HSRC where we are developing interventions to retrain teachers and provide valuable infrastructure to the kids. So trust me my opinion is well informed. I am not trying to downplay peoples efforts here what I am advocating for is the proper utilisation of the resources that they get from people. We live in a country where close to 50% live in poverty and d only way out of this vicious cycle is via quality education and shoes wont provide that.

Big up Lupi intle into oyenzayo mtshana and iyancomeka,i would love to know how you distribute these shoes as i have never heard any1 mentioning the Lupi shoe drive in rural EC.trust me every black person has a mbedlenge story to tell,we may not be contributing to Lupi’s drive but there is always a dead cousin’s kid/s we gotta take care of, or a makhelwane ongasebenziyo that u buy shoes for once in a while.
Brown Shuga on Wed, 24th Feb 2010 8:42 pm
Nonkululeko so you’re saying the kids should go to school without shoes coz the education is up to scratch? Why don’t you also say we must not give them lunch, school uniform either?
We can only change the world by adding kancane kancane to contribute to the bigger plan so even though the shoes may not solve the whole schooling problem, they will help out somehow. Lupi gives shoes, let someone else give his/her time to give the kids extra lessons etc.
GA on Wed, 24th Feb 2010 9:10 pm
Nonkululeko..its great that you do your bit in that regard..kuods to you too…but you miss a very big point if you think giving the kids shoes and other school kid is not as important…..
