It’s SAMA Tym!

March 2, 2010 by

samaThe 16th SA Music Awards are set for 17th April 2010 at the Sun City Superbowl and I know everyone and their grandma are looking forward to them. Well, I know I am.

First up though is the Nominee Launch this coming Thursday and I’m looking forward to seeing the nominees list so we can rip it apart…umm.. I mean congratulate the nominees.

What I wanna say is “please please please, I do not want to see Rebeccca Malope up on that stage this year. I don’t care how many albums she’s sold or how great a drinker gospel star she is, enough is enough.

The organisers have promised us an even better show this year, yeah , I know, they say that every year but for some weird reason, I have a good feeling about this year’s show.

I mean it’s 2010, everyone is positive, tryna show the world how great we are and there’s no way they’ll do a mediocre show, right?

Well, I want to see great perfomances, a quality production and of course, lots and lots of AWKWARD moments from those who will be presenting the awards. What use is an awards show if it ain’t got a few scandalous moments to keep us talking long after the show’s broadcast?

And yeah Mzansi designers, please shock us with your designs, we love it! Let’s see who will be our own Lady Gaga..

Another thing, yes we know SABC 1 is a broadcast partner but enough with Generations cast presenting awards… can we give all these other artists that submitted their albums but aren’t nominated a chance to shine too?

In terms of performances, No HHP, No Rhythmic Element, No DJ Cleo, No Jamali & No Jozi this year please, let’s give other people a chance. I guess whatever I say, TKZee is sure to perform…so I’ll keep quiet.

I would like to say No Brickz but no, I wanna see him perform that Babemzela song with Tumi so yeah, Brickz please & can y’all please make Arthur Mafokate happy nje just this once and get Chomee to perform shame? Even if she performs in a medley with someone & her mic is inaudible it’s okay, siyamcelela bantu.

Now, South African musicians, when you are booked to perform, please maan, a bit of choreography would be appreciated. We are tired of lip synching people  who are jumping up and down the stage and can you boys please make an effort to dress up? Asseblief!

That is my piece, Are you guys looking forward to the 2010 SAMAs?

What would you like to see change this year and if you have ultimate No Nos for the, DO SHARE!

While you think about the Dos and Donts, here’s a clip from last year’s show. Slikour vs Da Les. Enjoy!

Woza SAMA 2010!!

No more of that BS where Generations actors present awards in character, mentioning a current storyline.Offender no.1 is Khethiwe Buthelezi!Only way it would be acceptable would if Ding Dong from Rhythm City could throw Rethabile from Generations off the stage,I really despise that character/actor.

  2. P.S on Tue, 2nd Mar 2010 1:51 am

@Afro did u really have to mention Ding Dong at this tym of the night??Now am gonna have nitemares…That character irritates the eeeesh outta me,he’s the reason am no longer watching RC.Eish don’t get me started ka Rethabile….

  3. lorrelai on Tue, 2nd Mar 2010 4:26 am

no no no, absolutely NO CHOMEE, i dont want her to do anything. that should be punishment enough for that mbhedo she calls singing. & they must exclude bonke aba mama who cry & kneel when they sing (Ribs, Deborah Fraser etc). & if they do let KB perform, they must please make sure that she’s properly dressed. no mipitso nje whatsoever. she could learn a thing or two from Lira (except her dance moves of course, uqinile uLira yho!). it would be great to see Tembi perform though, i dont like her music at all but i admire the way she keeps dusting herself off. SHE needs to be appreciated, NOT CHOMEE! k enough 4 now. o & i hope the ladies will be dressed by somebody else other than DFC, tjo my goodness Uyanda, such greed!

  4. Makgotso on Tue, 2nd Mar 2010 7:49 am

Can Lira perform there, pls banike uMam Yvonne ibreak. I would to see Hashi elimhlophe en da crew performing dat yithi ojikelele yithi omanqoba-SABC Sport theme song.

  5. khafo on Tue, 2nd Mar 2010 8:10 am

Makgotso…….fully agree with you. Let Lira perform esp. that kwaito part_that would be super. If Trevor Noah and Kenny can be MC’s that would be cool as well.

  6. Lahvee on Tue, 2nd Mar 2010 8:45 am

…they must exclude bonke aba mama who cry & kneel when they sing (Ribs, Deborah Fraser etc)… tl tl tl… I couldnt agree more lorrelai, can someone hold a gospel conference in Zambia or something so Ribs & Deborah Fraser can stay away from the SAMA stage. If Ribs gets as much as a nomination, haai, I change channels when they announce winners. Im tired of Ribs. They should soma give her the award and not bother nominating abanye. Bavele bamnike…

Speakin of mnike… NOOO Chomie!!! Please!!! I also want to see Bricks and & Tumi (after the hype the got at da HypeAwards) – I have a strong feeling Jozi will be there too. and nooo Loyiso (even at Miss SA please).

And no Bonang and Touch on stage, whether presentin an award or hosting! Give other children a chance. But i’ll forgive you if you decide to bring back Trevor Noah ;)

  7. bee on Tue, 2nd Mar 2010 9:04 am

Can’t wait, can’t wait even though the people we love won’t win but i still love SAMAS.

  8. Dladla on Tue, 2nd Mar 2010 9:07 am

What ever happen to Sun Goddess? The other woman with a gay (happy) hubby? Uhmmmm, Uhm, Uhm, hayi I forgot their names. They use to dress Noeleen and Joyous celebration, maan.

Anyway, BS, I take a huge offence ngo Ribs. I love that woman, qha. She does it for me. She cannot help it if people imitate her voice. So, crawling is the one thing they never get right. Except for uLundi when he is ‘intoxicated’.

I want to see Tembi too. NO LIRA.
    NO CHOOMI
    Yes, black coffee
    NO KB
    NO BRICKS
    Yes, Jozi

Yes Winnie Khumalo and that anthem of hers, Uyayicwaba sisi.

  11. Johnlegend on Tue, 2nd Mar 2010 9:29 am

Maybe they should open a telephone line or do a poll where we vote for who we wanna see perform at the Samas. Other performances ziyakhinya shame

  12. siyabee on Tue, 2nd Mar 2010 9:30 am

….lol@ishmail taking a bath this year.

here’s my take on the SAMAs 2010….
-guys really MUST dress up, its soooo 2000and late this thing of showing up in beer-stained t-shirts. i suggest carducci, ephimol…. we need more men’s clothes designers really.
-girls should try sun goddess, stoned cherry, macherie, Gavin Rajah, and thula sindi.
-yes, every performance must have well-rehearsed choreography.
-Skwatta Kamp should appoint one of them to speak for the group, not all 18 of them doing acceptance speeches.
-Teargas should win something AND perform, so underrated.
-Lira MUST win everything and perform.

  13. lorrelai on Tue, 2nd Mar 2010 9:31 am

lol @ Ish taking a bath. it would be fresh to see someone like Azania Ndoro or Grace (from Hatch) presenting an award or something. & yes ihash’elimhlophe would be super ayoba.

  16. Lehakoe on Tue, 2nd Mar 2010 9:52 am

Yes, yes, yes to Trevor Noah presenting the Sama’s. And keep ur gal B and that croak-voiced T-bo away. Rebecca must just stay at home and not even make an appearance. Talking abt her reminds me of the tym she was crawling in the same SunGoddess dress Basetsane Khumalo and Unathi had been wearing two mnths b4. So pls ne, b creative and wear different and interesting outfits. Yekani u Uyanda, she’s a gud designer anyway(most of the tym)

Lela, that woman really lost weight in a very abnormal way…LOL
And it was like Sun godess was trying to prove a poit when they arrived on the fashion scene, they came with a bang and left with a bang…

I remember in 1 of the SAMAS Kenny presenting an award and he asked why was sis Ribs not dressed by sungodess like every woman there (coz well that yr every woman was wearing SG), and he said, well…because uSis Ribs likes to crawl and make herself dirty and SG couldnt dress her…I was Lol-ing

  27. J.A.Y. on Tue, 2nd Mar 2010 1:42 pm

I don’t think the SAMA’s can afford Trevor Noah now.

    Anyway – I want:

    Teargas up there performin…

The 2 Mrs Crous presenting an award together…

    I don’t want to see :

Siz n Scoop (Siz with his grey suits and Scoop with his “whatever he wears”)

I don’t want to see Dr. Rebecca – unless she’s accepting a lifetime achievement or something voted by the fans. Please SAMA Judges – work with us on this one!

I don’t want to see PUFF JOHNSON…anywhere!!! Red carpet, crowd…backstage…

  28. Dladla on Tue, 2nd Mar 2010 1:48 pm

LOL’… On that ‘happy’ note Lela, sondela ndikuhlebele…

A friend of mind, was doing some kind of internship with them a few years back, they kicked him out the minute they discovered he was ‘happy’. However, the woman denied being a homophobe. This is after she had been making comments that happy boys are after her boo-boo.

Mamela ke, when we did our mini-research,(after being fired, of course) we discovered that a couple of ‘happy’ guys got kicked out too.

Now, my question was and still is, why???

Umfana lo, if you could see him, he is definately happy. Happy when he speaks, happy when he walks. Happy when he eats. happy when he is at the Gym. He was happy even more at the office.

Yena umfana shame was, and I believe he is still, the nicer one. But, umama wekhaya, tjo! Dragon yomhlaba.

AAAAAAANYWAY (BACK ON THE SAMAs), when it comes to designers, David Tlale, Stoned Cherry and DC. Otherwise, the rest might as well hit Jet stores. Nizobona amanyala abazokuwanxiba, whoa!

Lastly, people, leave sis Rebecca alone, asseblief torho. Why aren’t you attacting the Princess of vay’vay, I mean of Africa? Ndizokunibetha ngegazi lemvana kanti.

Mathaz, I know one, but my boss made me swear not to say a word. LOL’

  29. Brown Shuga on Tue, 2nd Mar 2010 2:07 pm

  31. AAZII on Tue, 2nd Mar 2010 2:32 pm

Yvonne is a one hit wonder, apparently she is celebrating her 20 ish something years in the industry and she only has one hit song to her name. African beer. No choreography whatsoever, just calling on big shots to get down as well. I believe Sis Brenda is the real Princess of Africa.

  32. Luja on Tue, 2nd Mar 2010 2:35 pm

what i would really love is to see uSis Thembi eperfomer shame kunini ezama usisi.
i wish juju can present an award
    Tjo@ the ‘happy’ story, interesting

  33. Lwandie on Tue, 2nd Mar 2010 2:50 pm

    My NO Nos…

-Hayi bo uSis Ribs should now be the face of iSAMA museum national treasures.Bathong if she was denim we wouldn’t even recognize her original color by now ngoba she has been so overused its not even funny.

-Big No to Yvonne-very highly overated…lol I’m starting to get worried ngo Will.i.AM and his duets with dodgy vocalists-hmm first it was Cheryl Cole tjo!!.

-Skwatta Kamp need to take to the stage in shifts, baningi kakhulu shem.

-Loved uDavid Kau till I attended a show where he laughed at his own jokes way more than the actual audience so hatshi kuma SAMAS askis.

-Khanyi Mbau-has already done overtime ku spot light this year

    My Big Yesses

-Trevor Noah yup yup!! a million times over

-Lungsta (his energy is just out of this world)

    -Lira

-Brickz(lol can’t believe i’m saying this but yaa he is the Mzansi Akon this one-annoying as hell yet somehow I’ll still watch his perfomance and even sing along to the Brickz Brigadoz)

  34. sponono on Tue, 2nd Mar 2010 2:55 pm

AAzi …sorry to reveal my age sis Yvonne is NOT a one-hit wonder and african beer is not the ONLY song that was a hit…when we grew up she was Brenda Fassie’s biggest competition they used to go neck on neck so much that apprently sis Yvonne moora’d mabrr at some club coz she was fed up of her bitchiness…some of her hits are …lol..I’m in love with teh DJ, Burning up, Mamaland, Isangoma…ect…she WAS BIG trust..why do you think is so reach besides cashin in fromthe United Nations work…she was Rhianna of our times and Mabrrr was Lady Gaga and the whole Princess of Africa thing had to do with her elegance and class…not her vocals….Brenda was called the Madonna of the Townships…fyi becoz of her ‘class’

  35. Lhali on Tue, 2nd Mar 2010 2:55 pm

Dafanetly no B! she must jst go dwn to Oudtshoorn and visit her sistaz (Ostritches) and share sum tips on how to keep doz scissor legs in shape.

  36. Nonny on Tue, 2nd Mar 2010 3:22 pm

Yvonne is a one hit wonder, apparently she is celebrating her 20 ish something years in the industry and she only has one hit song to her name.>>>>>> kwa kwa kwa very true, Yvonne must just retire from the music industry and be the brand ambassaddor for Jabu Stone coz the only goood thing left abt her is her dreadlocks.

  37. Nonny on Tue, 2nd Mar 2010 3:30 pm

she was Rhianna of our times and Mabrrr was Lady Gaga and the whole Princess of Africa thing had to do with her elegance and class…not her vocals….Brenda was called the Madonna of the Townships…fyi becoz of her ‘class’>>>>> kwa kwa kwa Sponza u know how to make me LMFBAO I can just imagine Yvonne as uRihanna wabantu abadala njengawe…..LOL

  38. sponono on Tue, 2nd Mar 2010 3:36 pm

nonny.think about it.comparatively..rihanna has a couple of hit songs but she cant sing and she’s now considered a fashion icon but of course sis Yvonne was’nt THAT styslish but she had class when mabrr was being a ho and a druggie..so there are similarities…i also dont think Rihanna has a lot to offer musically anymore jus like mam yvonne..and Brenda was juct as interesting as Lady Gaga is with her weird outfists but catchy songs adn she IS talented and jus like mabrr she mite be around for a while…BTW uyazibona izingoma engisaz’khumbula eish imnyaka isihambile..lol..

We know Sonia met with her hubby when she was rehearsing for being an award presenter at SAMAs but we dont want her near the stage this year. Maybe my gal B should take a break this year but she presents a music show so maybe they won’t leave coz of that. Please no Khanyi and Kelly Khumalo on stage. I want Kuli Roberts to present an award please tu. I want Jason, of gen to present an award. Lungsta on stage please SAMAs people. No Chomee anywhere near the stage their dance moves are sooo 2008 and they are short of creative dance moves. Rebecca is good and nothing but good better than all artists in Africa across all genres. I think it’s important to note that SAMA awards are for people who work harder than others and if she still gives the best, then she should be recognised and not be discouraged. When she dies, you will all change your tune and pretend to love her as you did with Brenda…. Let’s be honest.
