Can someone please send me like an anonymous email and tell me what the hell is going on at the Spaza Shop? The  Sunday World broke the news that the Spaza was cutting DJ salaries and threatening to fire them if they didn’t take the cuts…

In the centre of it all is Penny Lebyane & the “news” that she’s now going to host a Saturday show and yazi nje, everytime I read about Penny’s troubles with Metro FM I’m reminded of a situation I once had. You know when you just stay in a bad relationship and keep hoping and praying that umuntu will change? The truth is that these “piggy” typa people, do not change so unless Ms Penny still wants more drama in her life, she must continue to stay.

I mean if it’s not them not paying her, they’re not renewing her contract, call her back, she has her own show, then she co-hosts and now Saturday show? Tjo!

Metro maybe the “it” station to be at but it’s not the be all and end all, there is life after Metro. Okay, looking at where some of those who’ve left the station are, maybe this picture becomes a bit sketchy but if you look close enough with clear glasses, there is life. heheh.

Heh! Shame man, so they cutting Chriselda & Mel’s salaries? Kulenhlupheko ingaka? Hayi, this station is out of order maan, they are out of order! They needed to cut Chriselda’s salary back when she used to be rude to her callers not now when the poor lady has started behaving, bayamsukela kodwa.

Well, whatever’s going on there, we wish the DJ’s all the best bantu and we will keep on praying for whoever is in charge to please appoint a new Station Manager who knows how to run a business.

Oh ja, and Sbu Says he’s leaving YFM but isnt going to Metro FM as reported… so where is he going? Leseli FM? Ayeye Ntate Chomane!!!!!!

I think most Metro FM listeners are ready to take whatever new DJ is delivered at their doorstep, as long as they don’t have to listen to Kenny Maistry in the morning. I used to tolerate Kenny but these days I find myself listening to Sbu or Just ice on Radio 2000 because everytime I tune into Metro FM, Kenny is reading those adverts and I’m not really  a fan of this new trend of getting Radio DJ’s to read ads. Kenny sounds more like a salesman than a radio DJ these days and angazi, instead of getting better, that show is getting worse. Refiloe naye, I wish she’d calm down a bit… I don’t wanna feel like I’m listening to Bon-la-what-what in the morning, she should read the news, I’d rather hear Thato more.

And speaking of Thato, I hope they aren’t doing anything untoward to my boy… if anything, he should be co-hosting something with someone (as in co-hosting Breakfast with Amon), come April. Oh, and Metro can continue with their Spaza, long as they run it far away from Robert and the DSC. #JustSaying


*sigh* Okay, I’m tired of all the guessing… re kopa nnete tu?

    They can do what ever they want as long as they dont touch NTATE GLEN and UNATHI i love their show, I listen to them everyday i must say im addictted!!!

    OH PENNY PENNY and LEKO show IS = RATED R (rubbish) the show is dead ive try couple of time 2 listen the show but no its Rubbish the show doesnt have a value its dead. I agree with Metro on Penny and Leko

    @BS Sbu twitted on Sunday that he’s taking a break, and always does that when he’s about to reinvent himself…whatever that means. Can’t comment on any of the shows, except Glen’s show. They’ve forced us to listen to Unathi for soo long we even love all her dumb moments

    Azania and Paul are the only shows that are worth listening to on Metro for me.
    I hate both Glen and Unathi’s voice, so much so that my skin itches a bit should I accidentally hear them while surfing.

    I must say, Fresh is really holding it down shem on his show, love it, pity I dont get to listen to all of it.

    Gareth I tolerate coz there is no other breakfast show i can stand really.

    Kenny sounds like he puts on a radio voice, like that isn’t really how he talks, it sounds so unnatural.

    Oh, who is this Thato Moeng girl that does sports on Sbu’s show! Tjo, talk about a voice not for radio, she sounds horrible, just like the kaya fm newsreaders!

    WHY DID THEY LET THOMAS AND LUPIZ BREAKFAST CREW GO (I WAS TRAVELLING THAT TIME I DONT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CREW). NOW I LISTEN TO GARETH AND SBU (DEPENDING ON THE MOOD) I WORSE THEY TOOK KC ON UMHLOBO I DONT LUGH IN THE AFTERNOON ANYMORE BECASUE THERE IS NO KC BUT FRESH DOES KEEP MY WHITE SIDE COMPANY.

    Ordinary people loose their jobs every month but now that its the so called celebs we should feel sorry for them?? Hayi khona maan..How many people have been retrenched since this recession started??

    I am not saying they deserve it,i am just saying THEY ARE NOT THE ONLY ONES…2 of my friends lost their jobs last year,it was NOT easy but they are doing well now.So the ‘CELEBS’ will bounce back too,its not the end of the world.

    I can’t stand Glen and Unathi.

    They are always laughing at their stupid jokes and discussing irrelevant topics like “farting in a club”. Like really,who wants to listen to that after a long day at work? Is this the best that this urban radio station has to offer to the young movers and shakers?

    Cut Glen and Unathi’s salaries and pay Mel more cos she’s the person who actually seems to have brain cells that function in that show.

    As for Kenny – he must really stick to doing voice-overs. Uyabhora!!!

    Penny and Leko – not working…

    Even Azania’s show is a bit too rigid – it’s been the same format since 1856…yawn…yawn…yawn…

    Basically Metro FM sucks…except for Marawa’s show off course – and maybe that old school Ismail dude.

    Kenny Maistry from the day he started ont eh morning show, I switched off.he’s better suited for sunday or satday afternoon.nx

    Glenzito and Unathi I like, they complement each other..as for Melanie..angazike..she’s like their encyclopedia know-it-all co-host.sometimes it seems like she’s proving a point that she’s not an airhead.lol

    Penny..I think she’s old enough to realise that she mite not have staying power in radio and that she’s not irreplacable so she should explore other options either in business or behind the scenes producing or something instead of making a spectacle of herself screaming about her family and kids as if she’s the only one who is struggling these things ahppen even overseas in big TV studios with world famous talkshow hosts, if you are familiar with the Tonite Shows etc

    yes Nonkawu, I agree..read sunday world it is alleged Penny said how is she supposed to support her kids with a saturday show, I mean really now, she has a TV show, does voice overs etc, It comes with the territory, like sport couches, this season you are in, the next you are out..and people have taken salary cuts all over….where is Bad Boy, he had to take it like a man!!!

    Tjo, Ismail J.A.Y.? I really cant listen to that man just like i cant stand Kenny’s show. The only tym i listen to Metro and really enjoy it is on sundays.

    Glen and Unathi, I like. Unathi’s laughter used to irritate the ish out of me but now I guess it has grown on me.

    I was watching Yo.tv on saturday(yes, i still watch it and cant stop myself) and they had the DJ Sbu breakfast crew and Unathi and Lupi on the show, Unathi actually said it on TV that she heard Sbu was joining their camp and welcomed him, why did he not deny it then, mmmmmmhhhh? With Sbu you will never know, I mean we talking about the same guy who repeatedly denied that he was/is mzakes man even though we all he is!!!

    now i miss Thomas’ breakfast show.I think things would be better if METRO actually listened to what their listeners want to hear on radio. maybe have votes or something…i agree we listeners sometimes dont know what we want…but at least they should also incorporate us listeners into their decisions. they dont have to fire Penny, actually it is a good idea that they give her a saturday show coz thats where she belongs. I really enjoy the Avenue show, they shouldnt change it. Aza is good as well. Weekend shows should be left as they are in my opinion.2 shows that needs some serious change is Breakfast & 12-3pm shows. oh & i think its time Wilson B Nkosi retires.

    Aowa Penny and her 2 kids, there are so many people losing thier jobs everyday but she will still have hers on saturdays & she is ungrateful. I think it’s about time that Penny realises that she has reached has sell-by-date.

    LOL, now I realise why my mom wanted to strangle me when I said I wanted to be a Metro fm DJ back in the days of aboBertha Charuma.

    As for Kenny, the less said about him the better, he is the reason why i completely stopped listening to Metro.

    Ive bn waitin 4 April since the day the announced ukuthi oom Kenny is comin to Town(b4 April last yr).If I were to run that station here are some of the changes needed.Unathi came on board & Fcd up Glen’s show he(GR8 1) needs a young up n coming face of radio i.e. sum1 to take radio past Glen & Fresh’ era, there are many gud radio perso’s out there bt no stand out ppl(brand names) but Glen’s show needs sum1 whose relevant eg JC’s bloggers. 2)Kenny mst go replaced by Thato & Amon. 3) Aza’s show is gr8 bt format needs to be changed as since 4eva. 4) Swagga show on Friday that’s a child’s playground silly content 2 boys braggin on radio in SA so not relevant plus most of the previous topics on the show are taken from FB wtf? If I wanna talk stuff then ill update my status bt topics such as wat does “complicated relationship status mean” is so 2008

    Penny is carrying on about ‘who is gonna look after her kids’ as if Metro FM/SABC fathered them.She must apply for isocial grant. We all have kids but we dont expect our bosses to think for us,if my boss doesnt pay me enough…. I WALK and find something else.

    @Sponono, i was not screaming man its just that this Pastel 2009 i’m using in the office is case sensitive i noticed later that i was writing in Caps and i just couldnt start-over.

    Glen and Unathi – BORING> fresh drive rocks > KC of Umhlbo wene Rocks better :)
    Penny – Shame i never have time to listen to it, i listen to Grant and Anele instead.

    Bring back Thomas and KC please!

    I know i know im a bit delayed :)

    1. Kenny needs to join some other radio station for his age group (think Kaya)

    2. Penny, girl, (if its true that you’re kicked to weekend) then I think you should leave metro. I feel MetroFm feels like they owe Penny. I think she should let go and she might just fly in her new chosen career.

    3. Sbu is probably joining Metro vele, he’s trying to kill the rumour maybe kanti yiqiniso. Fresh said (2weeks ago) that SABC radio weekday hosts already know their fate (i.e. if they are changing or not). Or maybe its Chilly M vele.. sigh..

    4. Dont give Unathi a show on her own, she’s a good co-hoster (if there’s such a term :) )

    5. Amon does deserve a chance shem, he’s good – push him to weekdays bathong!

    6. Glen yena shem, whatever he does works. He’s not my favourite but if my dial is on Metro from 3-6, I dont change it and if its on 5fm with Fresh, I dont change it either.

    Thats my 2cents worth…

    P.S. Brownshuga can you find the listenership numbers for different radiostations for each show (weekday) 6am – 6pm! Please, or does anyone know where to get these…?

    Oh I so MISS Thomas and Lupi,they were the reason I got back to listening to Radio,the show kept u wanting more and more and thinking so many things to say and discuss but so little time.

    Penny shud do a Thomas on Metro.As for Kenny Maistry,that was just WRONG.I was always a Metro FM listener but after Thomas left I changed to 5FM and other radio stations.If Sbu comes to Metro that’ll be GREAT!Bring back Thomas PLEASE!

    Well this is a simple task. Everytime a celebrity denies something it’s actually true. You ll see in a matter of months DJ SIbu wil b at Metro. He did the same when he was at ukhozi, he denied when asked if he was rejoining YFM dats wat unathi, chriselda, thomas did wen asked if dey where joining Metro FM.

    1 thing: Is being a DJ like being a King? Because a king is born to be king and will only be replaced hen he dies…maybe its the same with penny, she was born for that 12-3 slot on Metro hence she cant go anywhere.

As 4 Chilli ke mathata fela. I’m gonna boycott metro. Unathi should go, le lapile ke ena, le voice ya gae, I can’t stand her. Aza should change format of the show, yoh ya bora, it has turned to a late nite show. More music request than anything else, that slot shud b more informative, than music music, boring. Metro dj r lazy man + their producers. We want thomas back. Penny tsamaya tuuuuu Sbu gakena nako ya gago. Aza change format tuu.
