Celebrating Freedom Day
April 26, 2010 by Brown Shuga
Tomorrow, 27 April 2010 is Freedom Day..
Here is the government’s explanation of what Freedom Day is:
Freedom Day is celebrated annually as a reminder of the struggle for a free and just South Africa culminating in the first democratic elections held in 1994 where South Africans of every walk of life participated in the making of our new country. Freedom Day commemorates the first democratic elections held in South Africa on 27 April 1994.
The only thing I’m not sure about is how we are supposed to celebrate Freedom Day. I know and respect everything associated with the day but for me it is just a public holiday where I chill and do whatever. On the odd occassion, I will watch SABC 2 to hear and see what rallies are happening where but I have never attended any of these celebrations and perhaps I don’t think I have to celebrate or remember the day by attending a rally.
There is an official programme though and national 2010 celebrations will be held at the Union Buildings in Pretoria where President Zuma will address the nation and later bestow National Orders on outstanding South Africans and eminent foreign nationals.
How will you be celebrating your Freedom Day?
What does this day mean to you and your family?
I will celebrate it by taking blogging leave. Whatever you do, have a great one

I’ll probably be with a friend, and then on the day after (Wednesday), I start to read around for what went down (regarding the day), where and why.
Otherwise, I think this day means so much more to those who were around during the times of the oppression, and those who are very much into politics.

For me its important, i respect it so much. Someone had to suffer for me to be here today. So i’ll spend it (in peace) baking with my boo.

Well, i do agree with celebrating freedom day,
i think on this day people must be aware that this is a free country that we live in, and that the past is the past,
and that we must be so greatfull to live in SA!

@BS, on JI’s SAMA blog, why did u delete some relevant comments? U deleted BMS’s 1st comments about so &so in a taxi& u also deleted Heya’s 1st about Yaris& Rich. Mayb u did it 2 protect them [BMS since she was found guilty of lying about the taxi& Heya from embarrassment about Yaris& rich].
Now u make those who commented on the Yarisrich+ taxi sound like bathetha into engekhoyo when it was there. If u wanted 2 protect any1,u should have just deleted the whole blog coz now there’s missing pieces 2 the puzzle& wont make sense to some1 reading it 4the 1st time
