Final Word On The SAMAs…

The SAMAs started off on Friday, I ended up in the 2nd row from the front next to all the nominees as one of them wanted to swop seats with me! Well who was I to complain?

Bonang and Vuzu TV host Siya Ngwekazi were the hosts of the evening, the event itself is not that big and not nearly as exciting at the saturday night!  I couldn’t wait to hit the afterparties!

First up came the Heineken party at the Palace.  I actually made it just in time before it ended, the bar had already closed down and I had to force the bar tenders to empty all the last wine into my glass!

Untitled1

Gert and Jen Su @ the Palace to join the Heineken party

Then I joined the Heat magazine team to go to the other parties, next up, the Red Bull Metro FM party in the Dungeon next to the beach! It was rather quiet but fun as they had HHP colaborate with other artists!

I found Thembi Seete on the way to the next party.

Untitled2

The last one I attended was the SABC1 party in Club Chip! It was much busier than the others, Bonang just entered as I left.

Saturday night at 7:30 was yellow carpet time! It’s not really my favourite place in the world, now I know how zoo animals must feel like!

Carpet

The first person I saw was Bonang wearing a Black & white tuxedo dress, and we can’t deny that she is becoming one of the best dressed women in SA!

Next up was Thandiswa in her famous outfit and I dare not show you that again! I thought that I was dreaming, but it turned out I wasn’t! Take me to your leader?  I don’t think so Thandiswa! I do appreciate creativity, but did you have to go to Boutique Mars to choose your Sama outfit? A big NO NO!

I scurried quick to get inside! Red carpets are a real zoo, they should only let celebs walk the carpet as it was way too overcrowded and the poor media got confused on who to interview. I’m not sure if all of you know how it looks like if you step off of the yellow carpet, that is if you make it uninjured, so I took this pic.

Untitled33

Free-flowing drinks and food everywhere but you have to be so careful in that room because of all the dresses, so you have to be able to drink and try not to rip someone’s dress off by stepping on their train! It’s an art I tell you!

Axene, performed with Loyiso on the Friday night and won the best English pop album of the year! ?

Loyiso

As for Camagwini a.k.a. “Lady Gagagwini ”  tin foil should not be wasted like that, leave it for the potatoes! You are going to the SAMAs honey, not the oven!

Trev

I have to agree with everyone that Trevor Noah really did a great job as host! The “don’t touch me on my studio” joke came up of course! He looked quite elegant in a black suit!.

I am so glad that Lira won the award for best female artist of the year, she really deserves it! Lira is probably one of the most down to earth celebs there are, I think this is the key to her success!

M

I also liked the blue dress she wore on the Friday night, it was made by Sylvester Falata.

(Interesting fact: Gert-Johan and Sylvester both graduated from the North West School of Design in Klerksdorp back in 2005!)

With all these designers around, celebs should really put in more effort when it comes to dressing up for these events, especially the SAMAs, I wouldn’t be surprised if they go in jeans and tekkies next year!

They could all learn from Kwela Tebza, who opted for the xmas lights look on stage. I see it was a trend this year!

Untitled66Kwela Boys.

Untitled88

I couldn’t decide if I liked Unathi’s dress? It was by David Tlale. I read an interview about him and he said that he doesn’t make pretty dresses? But why David?

Untitled99

Then also Zulu Boy! Loved the suit, the matchy match thing did not work for me though!

Untitled1111

Axene also opted for a polkadotted dress, I liked the dress except for the middle part and it also looked better in life than the pic!

Untitled100

Louise Carver and boyfriend Emanual Castis looked elegant, understated glamour by its best Louise!

Untitled133

Miss South Africa Nicole Flint was dressed in a flowing red long dress by Kluk CGDT.

Mika

What would any red carpet event be without the red carpet queen? Mika Stefano was looking fab in Foxy (His fur coat) I decided to name it :o )

Our very own Gossip Gangsta was filming the pilot of his TV program! If I were a TV station I would snap it up very fast because I would surely watch it!

Next up was the after party, which I was really excited to go to, but when I got there directly after the awards show the bar tab was up??? And there was no food, what gives? If you ever want to cut costs, please do not take our food away :o ( so that was the only downer for me!

More of those spotted on the yellow carpet:

J

Thandiswa’s sister, Ntsiki Mazwai…

S

Musician Joe Nina

The production of the SAMAS this year was phenomenal! And the entertainment outstanding! I could only spot 2 small mishaps! The stage did not turn in time, and there was a slight silence at one stage! The performances that I liked most were the colab between the Parlotones & Louise Carver,Kwela Tebza, and the Sowetan gospel choir!

Last words? Thumbs Up to the 2010 SAMAs!

uNtsiki Mazwai uqhunkqile yerr. She looks terrible with that cheap makeup,u can tell it’s not Mac. Lira always looks hot. I’m not sure about Kwela Tebza’s police uniform

  23. Dladla on Fri, 23rd Apr 2010 10:24 am

I am not sure what to make of what I am noticing, and I don’t know whether other people notice this, or not…

    1. I feel like JC has gone bland, this came after the not-so-nice feedback we got from the celebs (including the recent spat between Ms LeloB and ThePhlyOne). Consequently, our JI lacks something these days.

    2. We have VickV, I don ‘t know her (no problem there), but she seems to be covering the same events, same story beats as JI. Now, I am confused. I mean, shouldn’t she come up with something fresh, or a D.I.F.F.E.R.E.N.T. angle on story leads?! How many times have you guys covered the SAMAs now?

    3. I must admit, I couldn’t help but feel that she (VickV) sounds like Mika. Maybe it’s because I follow him too? I mean, never mind the photos (no problem there) but even her opinions come very close to being exactly like Mikas. But, why sisi? What happened to originality? Heeeh?!

    4. Ms Brown Shuga, izolo or the day before, I’m not sure, I came across your comment; you were responding to someone who kind of felt the same as I do now, and you said something along the lines of “being tired, and wishing you’d never committed to blogging everyday…” (Not exact quote).

My heart just sank when I read that. It was like, Beyonce/Ms Hudson was told ukuba uyafundekela when she is singing, hence she considers giving up…

Sisi, kutheni kanti? The last time I checked, you loved blogging? I know you do.

Yes, you step on people’s (your friends’) toes along the way, but that is life. Some of the choices we -as people- make do not accommodate everyone. This is the case with you too.

Now, you decide if you want to continue blogging the usual way, or come up with something that you think will work, for you and for your readers.

Otherwise, being tired, yinto eqhelekileyo sisi. But, involve us. Or involve me, because I care about this blog (and about you too, dear).

So, if you decide to let things go low for a while, I support you. BUT, thetha, and don’t just do.

Anyway, please sort out this mess with JI and VickyJ. Define their roles, and decide whether you want JI to continue to write a gossip column or some PR for our beloved celebs. As for VickyJ… I don’t have anything nice to say.

Please, JI, VickyJ and Ms Brown Shuga respond to me… By this comment/complaint, I don’t mean to offend anyone. I’m just a reader trying to understand things.

So, if I offended someone, it was not my intention, and therefore I apologise.

@ Dladla, running a daily blog is not an easy task,
as you take 5 min to read it, BS spends Hours preparing it.
This might look like a simple article, but i actually went to the Samas to be able to write this.

Please Write up a story (the kind you would like, and post it within this blog, then we have a fresh new angle, and we can comment on it.

  41. Mands on Fri, 23rd Apr 2010 12:41 pm

@ Dladla, this one’s different from the other JC SAMA topics. She didnt talk about outfits ze Big Nuz, Thandiswa, Camagwini again. She used different pics(Unathi, Ntsiki, Mika, etc). Yes it’s the same topic but “different storyline”.
BS has a 9 to 5 job but manages 2 blog everyday &mo than 1 topic.Keep them comin BS &don’t change anything bcos of 5 people abangena appreciation. Majority counts. If kunga-votwa, the unhappy ones would b very few

Phew! BS I understand you when you say daily blogging is stressing. I wouldn’t keep up shame but you are doing a good job qina mzalwane lol we are all here… As for Ntsiki Mazwai whats with that so wrong cleavage its just not right. Khona what is she wearing Thandiswa was way better than Ntsiki except the worns but the dress is nice. Joe Nina whats with that chest aren’t there some ntwalas there. You must learn to shave abuti. I’m also not sure about Unathi’s dress. Zuluboy tried shame but that matching they did with his partner makes the colour too much to look at.

  44. Nthoentle on Fri, 23rd Apr 2010 1:37 pm

@Lee-Lira is very ugly, she also has funny teeth, the dresses r doing her justice. Guys I emailed Gert,I was a dress by him, he said I should call him n we should meet! *smiling from ear to ear*! I just thought I’d throw that in. LoL!

….a shame there isn’t a pic of her on here, but i think the most beautifully-dressed woman on that yellow carpet was that Fiance kaBheki Cele, Chief of Police. wow, she looked H.O.T.T. They say its by Uyanda Mbuli, so maybe she’s not going out of business yet. *ebhekabheka angaShoot-to-killwa for making eyes at the General’s eye-candy*

I mean now its seems like we shouldn complain becouse Lelo has a 5-9 job ofwhich to me it just doesn make no sense coz i believe that Lelo opened this blog kuba efuna not by force so she must deliver. Oh ja Dladla i feel exactly the same and thanks for bringing that up. U’ve got balls man.

  57. Bruised Ego on Fri, 23rd Apr 2010 3:50 pm

@Dladla & @Lungelo JC is doing a great job, they keep us updated on a daily basis unlike other sites.

Yes I would like to agree with you that there is something lacking lately, but we just read whatever is posted on that particular day and comment if we have to!!

    FRIENDLY TIP:
Not every post will amuse you, so tell yourself maybe the following day they will post something good.
Don’t compare to different sites, coz obviously you will start having doubts!
Similar topics mean that those are the things that people are talking about or happening at that particular time, there were SAMAs so you must expect topics which have to do with them!
We are not expecting Lelo to be enemies with celebs, so we wouldn’t want JI to continue writing in that style he used for Poppy’s party!

    Try these TIPS..they helped me!!

  58. xxx on Fri, 23rd Apr 2010 3:59 pm

@Mini **** BONANG!! The reasn why tht whore aka B as in Bitch is always critisized is becuse she puts her business out there to show off!!!! Why do u think abo Zizo Beda and Nonhle Themas are not crtisized, its because they publicize their proffesional biz and keep their personal biz to themselves!!Bonang SUCKS!! PERIOD!!

  90. Vicky on Mon, 26th Apr 2010 1:24 pm

    LoL :o )
what did people think of Sunday World’s Review of the samas?
i find it questionable and vindictive, but that’s me!

  91. Brown Shuga on Mon, 26th Apr 2010 1:31 pm

Which parts exactly Vicky? Some of the comments mentioned in there were exactly what I’d read on Khetha’s twitter profile so I wondered about that but generally…. I didnt find anything strange.

  92. Vicky on Mon, 26th Apr 2010 1:42 pm

Just in general, it seems like they have their crowd of celebs that they support, and no matter what they do, they always support them.
And then there are the ones they don’t like – no matter what, they will always trash them.

they don’t seem very objective to me, where other publications are! does the Jurno’s only write good about their friends?

  93. Nonkawu on Mon, 26th Apr 2010 1:53 pm

@ Vicky i agree with u about Shwashwi…..shim have their favourites and enemies!!! But i enjoy reading that & Kuli’s page….Its the 2 reasons i still buy that paper.

Its Sunday World as whole i have a problem with becoz it seems to be entertaining Crous as if he is a celeb..sekwanele ngoku!!

  94. poshspice on Mon, 26th Apr 2010 1:58 pm

@nonkawu just like we are entertaining Bonang on this site, sekwanele!! JC is obsessed with her *hide*

  95. Vicky on Mon, 26th Apr 2010 2:03 pm

@Nonkawu, lol, you have to like Kuli even it you don’t, you have to like her.
    i do enjoy her article,
and i see that they are entertaining Crous! why i don’t know?
it might be because Khanyi sells papers!
wonder why she was not at the samas??

Maybe i’m not thinking objective because i know these people they are writing about, i know what is true, and what’s not!

  96. Vicky on Mon, 26th Apr 2010 2:06 pm

@poshspice, i did not catch on with the story about Bonang,
why doesn’t people like her? let me in on the story!
i must say that i really like her.

  97. Lehakoe on Mon, 26th Apr 2010 2:38 pm

Eish Ntsiki le di-beads.Horrible make-up. as for Joe nina…SMH! Lira’s dress is also nice but I dnt understand what;s goin on on her tummy. Why are there creases? kapa is it just my eyes?
    uhm, Mika…why’s your site suspended?

  98. Cleve2 on Mon, 26th Apr 2010 2:43 pm

Sunday World and Sowetan are too biased…….. All they do is promote Khanyi

  99. Nonkawu on Mon, 26th Apr 2010 2:59 pm

@ Vicky apparently Khanyi wasnt at the SAMAs coz she couldnt go alone…Crous was having a party for his wife Primrose that very same night.

  100. Cleve2 on Mon, 26th Apr 2010 3:04 pm

  103. Vicky on Mon, 26th Apr 2010 4:03 pm

    - – SAMA DRAMA – -

Lira’s dress was Hi-Jacked by newcomer designer Sylvester Falata, saw it on the that he claimed he did Lira’s SAMA dress, but neglected to say that he only did her dress for the Friday night.
I just saw a magazine with Lira’s pic, and that Sylvester designed it, while it’s Gert’s design?
    What’s up with that????

  104. soul sista on Mon, 26th Apr 2010 10:11 pm

Oh Lehakoe I think you can just go straight to the blog that one is still running

  105. Sylvester Falata on Sat, 15th May 2010 4:42 pm

Vicky Darling!with all due respect, I wouldn’t dream of putting my name on that dress:-)It was purely the magazine’s mistake.
