Jozi Insider Hits Sex And The City

Against my will, and because I want to keep my job and you guys as friends, I decided to abandon my studies and come out of my shell to check out how much Sex there really is in the City of Jozi.

For a change it was nice to get out of my own skin and allow myself to fall prey to the bug and hype that’s got almost every gal and she-men going gaga lately. The twitter community has been tweeting about it since last month, so I wanted to see if it was worth all the hype.

Unlike my boss, I am better connected (unbelievable, I know), I managed to score myself an invite and off I went to the much anticipated premiere of Sex and the City 2. You see, I’m always skeptical of sequels but for some reason, I was curious to find out what happens with this one. So, I went along and dragged my friend (yes, I do have one) to bear the pain with me.

There was no mental preparation good enough for what hit me when I hit the premiere venue. It was as packed as a flea-market in Marabastad. I could feel my body instantly tightening, going into that negative space because there were just too many people. Whatever happened to the difference between A-list and ZZ-list events?

Gays, straights and those in-between (or do we call them transitional? Iko Hashi, this is where you come in to help me find the correct term) were all there, shoving down whatever was in sight. As my body was trying to recoil to get away from this zoo, I bumped into Cassandra’s belly. I was suddenly reminded of the unflattering characteristics of a hippo or is it a rhinoceros?  Isn’t there a law that protects us citizens from such unpalatable sightings? I could swear the nose alone has a colony of its own. I could almost swear I saw people having a town council on it. I had to flee from it.

Just as I catch a breath, I spotted Terry Pheto wearing a black ensemble. She looked rather aloof. Could she still be having man-problems?  The hippy Shbushisho couldn’t be that bad, could he? But then again, we haven’t seen them together lately. He’s now in the constant company of some Trevor guy. Too close for comfort if you ask me. Oh no Terry girl, I’m not saying you should worry about anything, but just remember this is Joburg. #justsaying. At five-past-nine men talk another story, if they talk at all.

Speaking of after-nine, what time is it? I wonder how my top-billing Romeo is doing these days. Of course I could ask Iko, but he was busy looking for minute particles that were floating in space. She looked like an uprooted tulip flower in that loose-fitting blouse he wore (personal pronoun confusion is intended, because, like my dog, I’m still confused by shim).

As I exchanged fake hugs with Iko, gosh those hands felt “rhabaxa” as maXhosa would say, I heard that strangled-chihuahua-like voice and I knew it could only belong to one person. It was that screeching Elana Afrika. I immediately grabbed a napkin from a passing waiter and started to blot my bleeding ears.

She was still screeching when I saw the only Lamborghini-shooting va-jay-jay in town and it belongs to none other than the RealMissK. Towering over her “money-maker” was Crous himself looking like a lost orangutan. What has he given her this year? At least with Mandla we could see results of her “spread eagle” every weekend. Whether it was a goed klap from his ex or a penthouse in Melrose, there was something. I shudder to think that the RealMissK could be in love. That would just be sinful, plus that Togolese man who prepares all the “medication” would go broke.

Ok, back to the people (can you see how I get low marks in school? My mind wanders and wonders), where was my favourite gal B? I missed her at the premiere, I’m sure she was studying.

What’s the story with Bridget Masinga? I insist that someone tell that woman that if your weave starts to have hairballs, there’s a serious problem. I’m almost sure her man didn’t see her leave the house, men of his “manner” don’t let such things slip by. Can’t she see how Bassie always looks almost impeccable?

JI’s favourite lady was also there, dressed in a Thula Sindi dress. I would mention her name but, her prayers are too powerful. She might just pray me away. I didn’t know what was happening with that dress though. It looked like a rotten egg on cottage cheese. I’m sure it looked good on a sketch though.

I also bumped into Mel Bala for the first time. I like her, she seems sweet. I would have watched her show when it was on but I was always doing something, can’t remember what…..oh yeah got it….running away from watching it. I’m one of those people who usually struggle falling asleep, but that show was my remedy. Within 5 minutes, I’d be in my R.E.M sleep.

Also in attendance were celebs of the fairer complexion. I saw Jenna Dover, Vanessa Carreira and Leanne Liebenberg. I almost wanted to ask her if it’s true that she left Danny because of the recent news circulating about him, but I got distracted by Liezel vd Westhuizen who looked like an improverished baby ostrich dunked in rainbow-coloured water. I think her invite for the 2010 J&B Met must’ve only arrived now.

And of course, the lady whose party grew my readership and raised my public profile exponentially was also there sans the mafia. Yes, I am talking about the one and only Poppie Ntshongwana. She looked…..where was I again?

Though the crowd wasn’t too exciting, I enjoyed the movie. As with any New York movie, it opened with an over-the-top gay wedding between Stanford and Anthony. A chorus of gay men sang and then Liza Minelli officiated the wedding and then finished off with her own version of Beyonce’s Single Ladies, complete with the hilarious dance routine. All members of the Limp Wrist Society were cheering in the audience.

I won’t give out much, but I can tell you that you’ll enjoy the movie more than the stale, unseasoned popcorn we were provided.

    Kwakawakwa Bonang Studying. Never!!!! Bonang was in the same class a my cousin who has ince graduated, wohooo the things ma cousin told us bout ur gal…kwaaaaaa. Apparently the highest she ever got for a test was 20%.

    Guys I have a scoop for you!! A big Big Scoop!!

    So thursday afternoon I decided to go do some little shooping for myself. I then sat dwn for lunch at my favourite restaurant, hmmmm.

    Sitting close to me were Melody Motha and a friend. Guess what i overheard them saying:

    “I CANNOT GIVE THE WAITER THAT MUCH OF A TIP AS I ALREADY HAVE MY CHARITY CASE FUNDI KUMALO”

    They then laughed an continued talkin about how gatvol they are with Fund forever askin for their stuff and the tantrums she threw if they did not want to give her. Yohhh was I shocked!!
