Eish Sex And The City 2, Eish!

June 30, 2010 by

Finally, after almost (if not more than) a month after it’s release, I found time to go watch Sex and the City. It’s strange that a die hard fan of the show like me, would only go so late but hey, it’s because I was too busy watching the World Cup, okay? I admit, it’s not just the World Cup. When I first saw the show’s trailer, I went crazy and knew I had to go watch it but after everyone went to the premiere, most of the reviews were kinda off ish (can I use “kinda” and “offish” together?) and I don’t remember anyone using the word “wow” to describe it so therefore didn’t feel any pressure to rush and watch. I had to see it though so I made time… and now that I did, I sort of feel like maybe I shouldn’t have gone.

I could not connect with the gals at all. They seemed different… a friend of mine commented that they are old now and yes I do agree, even cute Charlotte looked damn old and frankly, I didn’t want to see them the way they are in this movie.

The only person who looks good is Mr Big. Big looked hotter than Carrie to be quite honest and as he kept referring to her as “kid”, I thought “honey, she should be calling you kid, she looks like your granny.”

It’s reality though, we all age so I can’t hold that against them . Now let’s put the “aging” bit aside and discuss the movie… *deep breath*

After watching the movie, I sent a tweet asking “What was the movie about?” and someone replied and said that it was about marriage, culture, children. What have marriage, culture and kids got to do with sex and the city bathong??

You see, I said let’s discuss the movie but I’m already talking about what happened after sigh…. It’s really hard for me to discuss this so I”m just gonna list everything I had a problem with in Sex and the City 2.

Grievances….

Samantha Jones only had sex once! People keep saying it was twice but I choose to believe her when she says she and that guy were only kissing… Is it normal for Samantha to have such a long dry period? That woman was not Samantha Jones. Samantha Jones is a crazy woman but that scene of her in her office with her panties down was so not necessary & totally irrelevant.. would the movie had been less better without it? The answer is NO.

And speaking of Samantha, when Smith Jerrod was on set, after his call to Samantha, why did they show his wrinkled former six pack? There was no need for that scene where he I cant remember if he was taking off or putting on that shirt.

That 5 minutes or so that we had to spend watching the hotel guy show the gals around their hotel, was it some sort of advertisement by the hotel? I mean, is that a real hotel & did they pay the SATC 2 producers money to promote it to the world? Because I felt like I was watching an advert and did not see how that contributed to the storyline… if there was supposed to be one.

Miranda’s nanny… what was up with her? Those expressions when

Hayi and so little screen time for my gays??? Tjo!

Let’s just say, I feel let down by this movie! Yes there were funny moments here and there but generally? Hayikhona….

Did I miss the point?

Thank you so much for posting this!
I’ve heard so many mixed reviews about this movie. I am a die-hard fan of the series, I still go back to Season 1 when I’m bored. But you said exactly what I thought of SATC1. These people are old now. I mean Samantha turned 50! 50!!!!! Haai suka! How do you relate to someone my moms age? I feel they need to cut there losses now, and not try another movie. Its just been flop after flop!
I still haven’t watched it, so I’ll get the download. Not going to pay just to watch the fashion

hhayi BS i also only loved watching Mr Big! Beautiful man ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh mmmmmmmmmhm i loved just watching him: and i loved the taxi stopper by Carrie!

  14. Nompi on Wed, 30th Jun 2010 9:09 am

I am also a big fan of the series, and I enjoyed the first movie. But I did not enjoy SATC 2 – I watched it a few weeks ago, and I slept during the movie!

Think I was asleep for a good hour – from the time where they got to Abu Dhabi till when Samantha dropped her purse and revealed the condoms. Will watch it properly when it comes out on DVD

  15. NthabiVDK on Wed, 30th Jun 2010 9:23 am

If this is the rating..i will download it and watch @ home ke.

  16. Dladla on Wed, 30th Jun 2010 9:28 am

I totally loved it mna. I loved every minute of it, except for the ending (which came across as typical or obvious)… I loved the opening of the movie with the gay wedding and all… I loved the Abu Dabhi adventure.

Ms Brown Shuga, I think we need to understand that with sequels, there’s not much left to link with the first movie. -I hope you get what I mean- If that was to happend, it would be BORING. As a result, I believe we shgould understand that people do grow up and somethings change (Samantha) while some stay the same (Carrie).

Having said that, I will have to agree with what your friend said about what the movie is about. These women have grown. Three of them opted to grow in marriage while Samantha chooses to grow old alone…

However, it is different strokes for each folk.

One dull thing that even a dumb-dumbino must have spot is Carrie and her storyline. She was just flat for me. In fact, I would actually like to hear what Phathu think about this. In fact, it was the other girls that got so much of axciting lines…

Otherwise, I loved the movie. My favorate part is when Miranda quits her job and rushes to attend her son’s award what what and then she gets there exactly when he is awarded the first prize and she goes, “…I made it. For the very first time I made it…” Apparently, she use to miss most of her son’s school activities ngenxa yokuba inkazana ibixakekile zezomsebenzi….

Soory for a long comment Miss Brown Shuga.

  17. Enkosi on Wed, 30th Jun 2010 9:31 am

I watched in the first week of release and it is worth giving a miss. And I feel u on the gugile part even makeup fails them.

  18. Cinnabon on Wed, 30th Jun 2010 9:53 am

I am a die-hard SATC fan…I feel that SATC1 was a huge let down and I just did not connect with the girls or storyline.

SATC2 was FANTABULOUS…It was more True to the series, I Reconnected to the girls again, the Fashion, the Glamour, the Adventure…it all felt like the natural progression for the girls…*singing “True Colours” with a tear in my eye*

  20. Luluwise on Wed, 30th Jun 2010 10:09 am

I’m with Dladla on this, to be fair the series started when they were fast approaching their mid 30′s like some of us are. To expect them not to grow up, get married and have kids is kinda naive of us. They were looking for the perfect guy when we first met them. My gripe is they should not have bothered with a sequel to SATC1. I enjoyed it though, it was fluffy and flossy. Sure they have toned Sam Jones down, but really, she can’t be expected to behave as if she is in her 30′s, she tried to but it didn’t quite work out. Let us just move on from the fantasy life (dare I say fallacy) that was perpetuated by the series, as few people behave like that in real life. I think we lived through those women for far too long. Let’s grow along with them and let the go:-).

  21. FunkyFK on Wed, 30th Jun 2010 10:13 am

BS – so far you are the only person who did not enjoy it. My gals are raving about it and now with your review, I have to go watch it and make my own decision.

@Nthabi Van Der Koning – I am not downloading anything anymore. After my not so nice experience with the quality of Why did I get married TOO – mfim. I will have to go the movies tonite.

  22. Brown Shuga on Wed, 30th Jun 2010 10:29 am

hahah FunkyFK, did you read the comments here? Lol.

Luluwise, this part of your comment hit a nerve… “I think we lived through those women for far too long. Let’s grow along with them and let (the) go”

I think you have summed up my why I reacted this way to the film.

Keabe, I feel you. If there is another SATC movie, I will not watch it because I dont want to see Samantha at 60 and not having sex at all…. or see Charlotte ‘s kids graduating? If they do another one, it should not be called Sex and the City, I protest!

I will watch my Series DVDs from now on, there is a lot of education there.

  23. sweetness on Wed, 30th Jun 2010 11:09 am

Finally someone who thinks the same as me!!! I thought it was FLAT, and never really understood what what anything had to do with whatever that was happening….

so little humor, irrelevance, and just plain numb!!! i love sex and the city, but this is just not it…

  24. Luluwise on Wed, 30th Jun 2010 11:47 am

I hear you BS and I get why you were dissapointed with the sequel, it kinda reminded us that you won’t be young forever, you will grow up and things will change and life’s not only about FUN AND GAMES and recreational sex!I still watch it every Thursday on Series because now that I’m 32, I find all their “experiences” relevant to my “situation”. I finally get it. Perhaps when I first started watching it in my 20′s it was for escapism and the hype, but now I understand and can relate to Miranda at least, same career, similar on & off baby daddy drama and being a workaholic and being the not so cool chic in the clique.

  25. Luluwise on Wed, 30th Jun 2010 11:49 am

    Cool Gravatar FunkyFK…

  26. Brown Shuga on Wed, 30th Jun 2010 12:04 pm

    @Luluwise,
I only watched the Series after watching the movie. A friend gave me the full series boxset and my life was changed. Unlike you, I watched it at the right age because I GOT IT then and everything about it was relevant for me.

Miranda huh? Wow… I have a feeling I’m going to grow old alone like Samantha coz I don’t see myself getting married to anyone.

Remember that conversation Carrie and Mr Big had about eating out vs home cooking? My hubby and I would fight about that so I’d rather not bother hehehe.

Hope your teeth are whiter than Miranda’s :-)

  27. FunkyFK on Wed, 30th Jun 2010 12:47 pm

    Thanks Luluwise

Did I see BS’s comment up there? Tjo, what happened? Phela the diva was no longer active on JC and the sad thing, she was ignoring me pha kwitwitter (uhleka nama football stars). What happened? or rather what did not happen? NO GAMES TODAY AND TOMORROW. Le layegile.

Talking of anything goes this morning I was listening to Motsweding and they played Sinakho Dance Band, tjooo… I laughed so much thinking of those olden days weddings and stepe… tltltltl.
That just made me think of wedding disasters, ugly wedding gown, cake, bride’s maids dresses, make up, hideous hair styles and stuff.

Hahah, I have a friend who says when people ask to see her wedding pics she says she was just married traditionally & didnt have the white wedding, because really her dress with those broad shoulders (with shoulder pads) and the decor… mtss let me just shut up

  52. Buhlebonga on Thu, 1st Jul 2010 11:14 am

Tjo this was weird. Terry and Sbu? Didn’t he say in Drum magazine that he isn’t dating anyone? Maybe Terry reacting from that. I just think that Sowetan added spices. Terry is a lady and doesn’t court drama like that.
This comment just killed me though:
” Pheto, who does not look anything like the L’Oreal girl who signed the lucrative deal last year, has gained a bit of weight. She said she was preoccupied “with other things”, including working on a movie.”
How harsh was that? was it necessary to say she doesn’t look like an ambassador??? Tjo no man.

  53. FunkyFK on Thu, 1st Jul 2010 11:14 am

Some of the points are valid but others just shows that the woman who wrote this is also looking for men at wrong places or meeting them at wrong places, really #44
Although I’m one of those people who look for the impossible in a man I think this is too much.
Hawu the last time I checked women didnt have any problem with cars, as long as its a generator covered with a metal sheet they hop in.
