South Africa Soccer WCup Final Netherlands Spain

Phillip has finally left our shores ending the cheerful mood we’ve been feeling for the last few weeks. Everyone will soon be departing to their own countries but the party continues in Spain, where they are celebrating the World Cup crown after  a nervous encounter with Holland. The match ended in a heart breaking strike for millions of Dutch supporters. It took extra time to separate the two after the Dutch were reduced to 10 men with John Heitinga getting a red card for hauling Iniesta on the edge of the penalty box. This was a historic moment for both finalists as Spain won the trophy for the first time ever.

South Africa goes down as the first host nation to be knocked out of the group stages after playing a draw with Mexico in the opening match and being defeated by Uruguay in their second match. However its legacy as hosts lives forever in the history of the tournament. It has become the first African country to host such a major sporting event and have done so successfully. Fifa has also earned their record profits of R26 Billions after
commercialising everything relating to soccer and 2010. Vuvuzelas became a major football brand accessory. Jabulani the soccer ball became a talking point for its deceitful movements. Talks of goal line technology were introduced after England were denied an equaliser against Germany.

Greece made their mark after earning their first victory in the tournament with a 2 – 1 win over Nigeria. Swirtzerland also earned their first victory against newly crowned champions Spain during their opening match. New Zealand set a new record by playing three consecutive draws in the group which featured defending champs Italy.
Japan has also made the last 16 for the first time. Paraguay reached quater finals after beating South Korea in the last 16. Ghana became the third African country to reach quarter finals following Cameroon at Italy 1990 and Senegal in 2002 Korea/Japan.
The Black Stars came close to break the quarter final deadlock but were denied by the hand of Uruguayan striker Louis Suàrez. And last 16 hero against USA, Gyan missed from penalty spot.

Spain were crowned champions for the first time through an extra time strike by Andries Iniesta. They became the eighth country to win the tournament in a first all European final outside that continent.
The Spaniards set new records as the first team to lose the opening match but went on to lift the trophy and has also doubled as Euro champs matching Germany’s 1974 record. They came carrying two tags as favorites
based on their quality as a team but also regarded as under achievers when it comes to big stage like the World Cup.

The Dutch came as dark horses after being the first European country to qualify. Their fans came in thousands in their orange identity, filled with lots of passion. They were also the first to reach the knockout stages after winning their two opening encounters and came from behind to beat Brazil in quarter finals. They were unlucky not to wrap up the game in the second half as their star striker Arjen Robben failed to beat the Spanish goalkeeper.

The Germans have became the only team to have won third place play offs for the third time. Off the field, German Octopus Paul became a star of accurate predictions of all the games in this World Cup beating the bones of African sangomas. Phillip is now heading to Brazil for the journey of four years and will reappear under a new name but its legacy will continue being a taking point for sometime.
