Hopeville The Movie

August 30, 2010 by

Inspired by the popular TV Series Hopeville that was screened on SABC, Hopeville The Movie will be released in cinemas nationwide on 03 September 2010. I didn’t watch the series on TV but I’ve heard good things about it and judging from the Trailer, it is the kind of movie I would enjoy watching.

Themba Ndaba plays Amos

About Hopeville:

Hopeville is the uplifting story of Amos Manyoni, a recovering alcoholic who moves to a rundown rural town in the hope of etching out a new life with his alienated son, Themba

In the face of a corrupt municipality, dark community secrets and apparent apathy, Amos finds meaning in his mission to restore the derelict public swimming pool. This is largely a tender bid to also restore the damaged relationship with his son Themba, played by Junior Singo, who is an upcoming swimming star deeply unhappy that he now has to stay with his estranged father after his mother’s untimely death. Amos’s “service” is initially met with skepticism from both Themba and the community, and frustrating resistance from the authorities, but eventually his perseverance inspires the community of Hopeville to finally act on their convictions.

Couple, Patrick Gumede and Fikile

Spotted at the movie’s premiere on Thursday night…

Cast member, Terry Pheto, Top Billing host Michael Mol and actress Relebogile Mabotja

Models, Stevel Marc and Pearl Thusi

Did you guys manage to catch Hopeville on telly? How was it?

Check out the movie’s trailer, it’s out 03 September 2010, in cinemas.

wow, this trailer felt like it was an hour long.

I kinda feel sad that im not connecting to the story the way i would a story with this kinda concept. Even the drama…of which maybe i watched 80%, was hard to connect with. And i feel sad coz i think the series was well done, as i think the movie probably looks well done.

Why im not in hurry to see the movie: The trailer looks exactly like what i saw in the drama?…whats gonna be new in the movie?

GA, I only watched the drama once and what I saw on the trailer is exactly what I saw on tv too. Or maybe they just put all the episodes together and called it a movie?

l watched the series and loved it. The actors were brilliant, but l will support the movie, just for being a proudly South African product.
