Mzansi Fosho’s 18:30 Slot

August 23, 2010 by

You know the recession is finally over when a launch invite from Mzansi Fo Sho makes it to your inbox. Phela the ANC had already taken FO SHO’s title as the best party planner in Jozi.

Last week SABC 1 threw an awesome party to announce changes to their line up. The youth channel has now renamed their 18:30 slot “Mzansi Fo Sho Reloaded” and are rearranging some shows on that slot, all in the name of “strengthening our historic bond with our television audiences and ensuring that the brand is taken back to the public in a fresh and more exciting way”.  So they say.

Well, the truth is that the other channels are klapping SABC 1 when it comes to the 18:30 slot. I mean, what’s on SABC 1 weekdays at 18:30? I have no idea… Do you know anyone who watches S1 at 18:30? Besides Jam Alley on Fridays, I don’t. My people watch Rhythm City, Isidingo or 7de Laan….

Here is SABC 1′s revised 18:30 Schedule:

Mondays – Mzansi Insider (06 September 2010 – 28 February 2011)

  • Woosa, they are bringing a new presenter. There is no TboTouch… I guess. I see a smile over there, over there and over there. Heheh nisile.

Tuesdays – Rize Mzansi

  • This is some entrepreneurial reality show where 14 business compete to win R1 million.  I prefer to watch Thapelo Mokoena as an actor and the few minutes of the show that I’ve seen were… yawn

Wednesdays – Selimathunzi

  • I must say, this is the most baffling of all the changes and good luck to them for this change. From it’s perfect 6pm on a Saturday spot to this? Hayi, sizobona…

Thursday – Seskhona

  • This show is still on air? Mmmh a little weird but they seem to be attracting more viewers than aboTop Billing and Showbiz Report.

Fridays – Jam Alley

  • Iyo bangani iyo! Haven’t watched JA in a while but I would still keep it on air for another 100 years. Kids love it.

Saturdays – So You Think You Can Dance

  • Sade Gilliberti’s back and is definitely one of the best presenters on our screens. Just wish I could “phaphamisa” the judges a little…

SABC 1 promises to launch new shows every second week till the end of October so there’ll be more and more parties coming up J

Real Goboza is coming back on our screens and Ray Nkwe said that it’s coming back bigger and better. Mmmh.. well, we’ll see.  Kuli’s moved on to Headline so I’m guessing there’ll be new presenters too. I think they should just come up with a new show… and let the RGB name RIP. I’m looking forward to seeing how the show does against “Headline”, V-Entertainment, etc. Unlike before, there is competition now so the game better be way up there.

How do you guys feel about the “Reloaded” slot?

that was a bad decision by SABC1 to change the Selimathunzi slot…Saturday was fine,…now i guess the show ratings will go down, dont they know that lot of people watch Rhythm City & Isidingo at that time during the week??! someone please inform them, they are clueless.
Looking forward to seeing how RGB will be, it has competition now..it better be good.

  14. Perzzz on Mon, 23rd Aug 2010 10:30 am

Two words: Rhythm City. The 18h30 slot is the only slot that SABC doesn’t ‘own’, and the reason is because of E-TV. It’s one of the most competitive slots. There were rumours that the new season of Z14 would be on the 18h30 slot but I guess it was just a rumour.

Selimathunzi during the week… bad move.

  15. fruitcake on Mon, 23rd Aug 2010 10:37 am

None of the above-mentioned shows can compete with RC, Guess this means I will never watch Selemathunzi again, oh well!

  16. OFENTSE on Mon, 23rd Aug 2010 12:20 pm

Yo shame Selimathunzi, haai no SABC1 will certainly lose viewership!

  24. Max on Tue, 24th Aug 2010 9:47 am

Lelo also made RGB fun hey. Good luck to them with the changes.

  25. Bee on Tue, 24th Aug 2010 9:53 am

What a pointless exercise. like, i would not be caught watching fosho at 18:30. They need a soapie for that slot shame. or a dramanyana. e.g Zone 14 / Society, After 9 perhaps, angazi shem.

  26. Nalizo on Tue, 24th Aug 2010 3:23 pm

  27. komani-residend on Thu, 26th Aug 2010 12:02 pm

this is why the SABC is useless!a cash strapped organisation throwing a party for the resheduling of programmes?how retarded!!

  28. BMS on Thu, 26th Aug 2010 12:19 pm

  29. Pele on Thu, 26th Aug 2010 12:35 pm

Real Gobhoza is like reading Sunday newspaper, Shashwi is their source i would think.
Kuli was not meant for TV tu, jst beacuse her sister is a star on TV tht doesnt qaulify her as one nanini.

Selimathunzi during the week, hayi ngumsangano lo, maar maybe it could work as thy always show us stale news like a Sunday paper.
