Why Facebook Will Die Soon
September 7, 2010 by Tshepo Mashigo

Clutter is the First reason.
One of things that had initially attracted me to facebook from the beginning was very simple, it was not the fact that everybody was speaking about it, or the fad that surrounded the cool factor about it but much rather their approach to the market (you and i). It was not forceful marketing, you were not in a rush to come on board, but it was the sense of belonging factor that made me join. Then it all changed.
In less than a year of me being apart of the network, around 2007 – I had the satisfaction of reuniting with old mates, school buds etc, and it was all fun and games. Then the Marketer in me saw a gap in this fine platform and began implementing niche marketing for a website that I was to launch at the time (www.mashonline.co.za) and this worked very well.
Remember the time when it was still cool to have a group of your own and build it slowly and get as many friends and potential people that you would love to share your vision with. Until late 2009, when restructuring began for the social network.
The Groups became a ghost town for most people, spammers had a feast on the groups, and everybody began doing what pleased them, order at this time had become an illusion, a very vivid one. And then the Applications and features were unleashed at a truckload, then this then that and it was too much to handle all at once.
Facebook made the mistake of changing too quickly for their market, this allowing me to see that this is all a fad. A fad that had no definite plan from the beginning, started in a dorm room at Harvard for fun and when investors took a handle it lost its objective. Ever felt like Facebook is in a rush, a rush that we don’t really know where its going. Wait I know what it is – Facebook is being turned into a pop culture. Now there’s a movie about the beginning and rise of Facebook starring Justin Timberlake titled “The Social Network” (Watch the trailer Below). A call for power seems to be happening at the FB headquarters, and people have begun seeing it. A good social network from the beginning that existed to serve the needs of people and has now “cluttered and spammed the world”
Facebook has turned into the everyday one hit wonder network, you log on once a day. Update your status, check your inbox, comment on a few friends statuses that are on your feed, reply to wall posts and then you log off. Then return later to see who was interested in what you said earlier and reply. Then the day is over. Why? All because its too cluttered for you to figure out and enjoy the experience like you used to.
Has your Facebook Experience and the way you treat the network changed ? Lets talk about it.

I deactivated my account about a month ago and as much as I loved the place it had just become a time-wasting vacuum for me. It gets so darn addictive too, almost compelled to splash your life all over your wall.
and then there was the ‘people you may know’ app. That just irked the vile out of me.
i don’t think it’s death is anytime soon though. Maybe 5 years and the hype will die out.

Reason why FB is going down…Twitter!
Bruised Ego on Wed, 8th Sep 2010 7:24 am
Facebook might die but not too soon, seeing that its a great platform to push business, think of dj and performers!
Yes! Everything has its own time like there was Myspace, Facebook, Mxit and Twitter is the “IN” application.
Facebook has also proved to be a user-friendly application, that’s why people are still there!!
My love for FB has gone though, its boring me!!

Well it all depends on what you use facebook for actually initially i wanted to get in touch with old friends from school and all, then the fad died for me scratched everyone from my friends list except my family .. i have brothers and sisters all over the world so its our one way to stay in touch emails are a bore so we use facebook put pictures up , share and chat without having 20 other people wanting to chat with you..
So if you have 1000 friends its def a clutter,
So yah as a serious networking site i think its dying but as a tool to stay in touch with family it will always be useful to me

“You can also order my Full FREE eBook “7 Reasons why Facebook will die soon….”- Errr, Okay, hehehe (keeping my opinion to myself about this).
I still love Facebook, but it only gets boring and irritating the minute I start having many people as friends, even having people I don’t know. *coughs* BUT, I love the new friends I have made on Facebook *smilling at Kiki*.
So, yes, Facebook has changed the way I see it. But, I am far from hating it. I love it too bits. Oh, Twitter, I loooove’t!
Ouh, mna Kiki I still have Mxit, but I don’t know why I have it because I have 7 contacts out of which only 1 is active. I am guessing the rest deleted me or they out-grown the thing. I still love it though.

Twitter came but most of my friends have not moved to twitter yet,so its still cool for me.
It only gets hectic when you have too many friends that you dnt even know.I dnt think it will die anytime soon, maybe until everyone owns a Blackberry and are able to use BB twitter application…
Sobza on Wed, 8th Sep 2010 11:25 am
I still enjoy facebook to be honest, I just can’t do twitter…following people is so not me. Twitter is mostly liked by the gossipmongers

Working in the IT industry I get to analyses IT trends a lot. Facebook used to be unstoppeble, but everything started going dow the hill when that virus that kept multiplying peoples comment to 10 copies & to my suprise FB took a long time to deal with it.
The best inovation from FB was the Groupes & the Virus made it hard to use them, so FB lost its momentum & now its experiancing a negative growth.
Twitter & BB are the most overrated trends of 2010, & the media makes them look bigger than they truly are. Twitter will not survive in SA all because people get into social networking for fullfilling there longing for belonging & Twiteer is just a glorified notification system. Trending topics are used as a way of coutering this problem, but they are just not as good as FB groupes. Twitter can only survive in places where the “celebrity” concept has more significent like in LA & Hollywood, but not in SA, I mean we dont even have Paparazzi here.
Twitter & MXIT will always be a Model-C things & that will never change, only FB managed to do a successful crossover.

As much as I preach the Twitter gospel to my friends, they mainly use it now for storing pictures and its a great for that, solely for that.
Flickr is good and everything, but hardly anyone goes there, so many people like using facebook because its easy to use and nearky everyone they know is on it.
I only update my status like once every two days and its just so they know whats going in empilwen yami!
Buhlebonga on Wed, 8th Sep 2010 12:03 pm
Mxit is NOT Model- C. you get kids in Nkandla and deep Inanda using it.
Besides kids use http://www.toilet.wen.ru to spread gossip about their friends! I really went to that website izolo and I was positively disgusted by it!
Kiki on Wed, 8th Sep 2010 12:48 pm
I agree with Buhlebonga MXIT is definitely NOT Model C.
Abut' Majesa on Wed, 8th Sep 2010 1:12 pm

most of my “hood” friends are still on fb and dont get the whole twitter thing and very few are on twitter as well.
twitter is very useful to me esp when u follow the news sites, authors, relevate bloggers, it can be used as a very useful tool of gathering info and i like the fact its so on the go, its all happening now and jah man! I have deactivated my fb acc and reactived my fb acc – simply coz my friends and i didnt connect as frequently therefore had to go back!
I lmao when I get friends requests from people who are new on fb, I’m like wtf, where have u been living??
In a nutshell twitter is the future.

Facebook is working wonders for me. I became friends and familiar interacting with people it w’d have taken much longer if it wasn’t for this platform. People post articles and opinions and I’m able to give my opinions, positive feedbacks I receive are good for my confidence. I’m still battling to grasp twitter.

I was never a fan of social sites but was forced to open a FB page coz I’m in the entertainment industry and we use FB to get the message to people and advertise events as well. This has worked for the company in a positive way but that’s where my liking FB stops. Yes you connect with long lost pals but you also develop stalkers, people splash their problems like FB is a diary & if your pic is old or you have not updated your page in a while people think you are boring. It’s a judgmental scene that is far from pleasant!
As for Twitter I don’t get it at all. It’s so complicated that you just lose interest. It’s for people who are seeking attention I think in their lives.I suggest they go get a life!

I deactivated my account. Half the time, I never knew why I was there. It has turned into an aunt dolly psychotic session, where people go and embarass themselves nje. *sigh*
