Pics: The 2010 Channel O Awards Ceremony

The Channel O 2010 Music Video Awards were held this past Thursday at the Sandton Convention Centre and the show was great, for those of us who attended the event. Pity I can’t say the same about the TV production, it looked messy (from what I saw on the repeat) and sadly there are more people who view the show on TV than “live” so this takes a lot away from what I otherwise thought was a well put together show. Minus the few odd moments between hosts Lungsta and Thomas Gumede. Oh! A minute of silence please, for the fabulousness that is Thomas Gumede! The boy was on point… Well done to Channel O for giving him the opportunity, he did well.

There was a glitch with the sound going off just as Teargas got on stage to perform but as soon as that got sorted, it all went smooth. Most of the nominees performed during the event… well, here they are:

Teargas performed Party 101 and I’d like to know what Tira’s connection to the group is? Anyone?

This collaboration by Sasha from Nigeria, Dama Do Bling and Thembi was very hott! It was good to see African woman bringing down the house like that…

Thembi is pure hotness! Love her shoes.

Oh man, this was definitely the highlight of the evening. Liquideep, Zakes Bantwini with Black Coffee  rocked!

And the climax was this dance by Black Coffee and Zakes. For the rest of this routine, all eyes were fixed on BlackCoffee… he was doing something we had never seen him do before, dance! What a pleasant surprise for his fans. When he went to accept his award for Most Gifted Male Video he said that this had been a great year for him and I couldn’t agree more.

Pro finally won an award… voted for by the fans, he took away the “Most Gifted South Video” and was totally stunned by it coz he’s just not used to winning heheh. TS baby! Well done to him.

Zyon from Liquideep has a good voice… just not sure what’s going on maotong daar. The boys are doing very well and their performance was great. Does the other guy  ever sing?

K’Naan (whom I would never have known had it not been for the World Cup) couldn’t attend the ceremony because he was performing in LA accepted his Special Recognition Award by satellite. Luckily the conversation with Lungsta went smoothly and even though I didn’t have a problem with him performing T.I.A via satellite too, it seemed other people thought it was pap… *shrug*

Huuu, IK… don’t be fooled by this innocent look, you should see him on the dance floor! R.I.O.T describes him better hehehe. Love him though…

D Black & Wyre performed Uprising with Kwela Tebza. I wasn’t too impressed about this performance…

Big Nuz were rewarded  with a “Most Gifted Dance Video” for their efforts  in Umlilo. A song they performed at last year’s awards, if I’m not mistaken…

And the biggest honour of the evening “Most Gifted Video Of The Year” went to TearGas featuring Liesl with their Party 101 hit tractk.

I thought it was a good show and well done to Channel O for pulling it off, given that it was the first time that the awards were live. Now they must just please work on making the awards show look GOOD on Television too.

    the awards were nice hey, i think the whole set up was just too awesome!! oh BS why dont you have a foto of Weza’s second outfit?! loved it!!
    is it just me, or does Dineo (new O-Access host) sort of have an accent, if you know what i mean….
    big up to Channel O shame, definitely Original African!!

    Nice recap BS. I felt the same as you too. I thoroughly enjoyed the show, maybe because I was there.

    Like you’ve said, that trick Black Coffee put out of the bag was the highlight of the show. And Zakes too. I didn’t know he moved like that, he doesn’t do that in his videos. Loved the mrapper ladies too, they brought it on. And yes, those shoes zika Thembi, too hot.

    You know who else almost made me fight her? Khanyi Mbau. Oh my, those shoes were to die for.

    Thembi looked fantabulous in the red carpet dress…she is stunting on other ladies, every where she goes with these big functions.

    I was so happy for PRO shem. I was happy for all the South Africans that won. I hope thina la eMsawawa we keep doing that. For other awards and competitions too.

    I had already mentioned that I was sad because I saw my man (in my heard) KO with who I believe is his official girl. But there were so many men from my continent to drool over. Had a brief chat with Naeto C before the show. Oh my, that man. Those lips! I felt like drinking him right there. Kwaaa.

    Eish…me and my essays. SMH.

    I found the awards honestly boring, loved Black Cofee and Zakes though. I think it was just a case of enjoying urself if u were there. Coz from my TV screen it was zzzzzzzzzzzzz.

    Caught the awards half way so maybe I missed the good stuff but to me there awards were just boring!

    First of all they just looked so cheap as if the production team was cutting corners to make up their Christmas bonus or something!

    Worst part for me was the Knaan award, artists are normally given like what 3 mins tops to say their acceptance speech but with Knaan we were watching a mini interview. Like where they do that at? He should have just said his little thank you and kept it moving! They didnt need to ask him ten billion questions and bore the crowd!

    My highlights were the Liquid Deep and Black Coffee performance, that was fabulous! Oh and Naeto C…yummy!

    Mampintsha’s gut is bordering on unhealthy now… *concerned look* I’m sorry 2 have to ask this & I’m not trying 2 be insensitive. The problem with Black Coffee, is his whole hand gone 94 lack of better word) or is it just his fingers that aren’t there…? Thembi’s shoes are absolutely breath-takingly gorgeous

    I think DJ Tira was involved with that Teargas song. He actually didn’t go to join them to accept the award, but the boys called him to the stage.

    Yes, Liesl is beautiful and a sweetheart. She told me a lot of people call her Hazel. Kwaaam

    @Julz…stay away from my man NaetoC bish. If I even catch you looking at him. Kwaaaa.

    WOW…I loved Black Coffee’s performance but he kept his other hand in the pocket the whole. Why? We know ukuthi si disabled and he must not be ashamed. I still love him though.

    @Zeal, nami I noticed the accent & she twangs just like Nonhle. Maybe that was 1 of the qualities they were looking 4 @the auditions, some1 with Nonhle’s twanging tendencies
