Mpho Maboi Fired From YFM

Hot news on Twitter is that Mpho Maboi has been fired from YFM for doing an interview with HHP without authorization. Mmmh. Okay.

DJ Fresh is going on about the story and voicing his disapproval of the way Kanthan is handling things at the station.

Yesterday Mpho tweeted

“Please note that I have parted ways with YFM. Thank you for your support through the years. Love Always. See you on the flip. “

I hope there is more to the dismissal than just her having done an interview without authorization, I mean if fired without a warning as Fresh says (which I’m not sure is true coz she had a disciplinary hearing during the time that MacGyver was fired) then there is a problem at YFM.

YFM is run by Kanthan Pillay, the same man who was in charge of eTV when Phat Joe said “ working for etv was like being in Afghanistan.”

First MacGyver, now Mpho Maboi, who’s next to see the exit at YFM?”

The story is still continuing right now (13:14) so check DJ Fresh’s timeline or search for MphoMaboi on twitter. Fresh gave Mpho her first radio break , she started off by doing traffic reports on his YFM Fresh Breakfast Show .

    I think there is more to it too.

    As much as I think she is good on radio, sometimes I cringe when she handles her callers because of how she sometimes is rude or sarcastic.

    We’ll see how this story turns out.

    Did she do a good job? I’ve never listened to it. Anyway I don’t think that interviewing HHP warrants her to be fired! Kanti what were they talking about? How many celebs are called by radio presenters just on a whim?
    Besides her infamous rudeness, I know nothing about her radio show. Let’s hope they get to the bottom of this!

    This is bloody rediculous now. I might sound a bit too biased because I don’t really know all the facts, but I do know that Mpho is and was doing a great job for the past few years, and this was really unexpected.
    Wow man, first it was Chilli M, then MacG, now Mpho Maboi. WOW!! That guy keeps firing people like he’s Donald Trump or something… #epicfail

    I think there is more to her firing than just the “unauthorized interview”. How will they fire her for doing what the show is about, at least as per her interview with Just Curious last year

    It was expected phela ever since early January YFM has lost more than 200 000 listners & management is panicing to keep the station as relevent as possible, so due to Mpho’s age & the fact that here audience is not growing fast enough, they got rid of her.

    Its just a very understandeble business move, beause if Mapho had a future at the station she would have got McGs slot & instead it was given to a trainee WARAS. That shows she was being phased out.

    I also dont expect mom daddy to stick arround that long because she is missing the target market all together. She is only arround because there is no one experianced enough to handle the drive time slot, if Ma Ada developes as fast as they hope then it will be the end of her.

    @abuti majesa..I concur with you abt mamdaddy, me thought her show needed a good producer cause it lacked direction and good content,it was even worse when bujy was on leave. She always sounds high and she rushes even the live reads adverts,bought slots. She’s got one of the best voices for radio and i still like her bt maybe it is a matter of a wrong slot. Chilli m was the best, tho at times wayeyihlathi nje,’iqaba’ elifundile.

    Bonang must start reading widely and watch a variety of Tv programmes and mix with the ordinary youth to keep her show interesting,you can hear a DJ that is not in touch with all the station’s audience issues…she sounds fake even when she tries to tackle those so called ‘ordinary youth issues’..she could replace dineo,she has potential but not yet,among those who have have sat for dineo in her absence Bonang is better..

    Mo flava is the best,content of the show is gooodo,his cohosts compliment him very well,his voice is fresh,I like!

    Good Riddance ..I expected her to follow MacG after what they did.I asked why wasnt she fired if him and MacG played the same clip.It was wrong of Y-Fm to fire MacG for one stupid mistake but more wrong for them not to fire Roundy when they had the chance.Now they fired her for something stupid that did not even deserve a warning.

    Its just more sad that Bonang will be taking over.She sounds very fake on the Radio,especially when she says that “mngane” word,nxa.I do not even want to talk about the noise that early in the morning.Maybe its time they promote Pearl as I think her voice will suit an early slot.

    As for Roundy,lets see who will hire you with that bad attitude you have…

    To those that say Y was wrong for not firing Maboi when they did Mac G, you need to clarify why he was dismissed first. It was post BCCSA complaint. The grounds: hate speech. Not so much the offensive clip, but what he said. And the demeaning nature to which he involved Bujy. Ok next
    Maboi’s record isn’t squeaky clean. Of course she was fired WITH prior warning! It just doesn’t need to be on Twitter for it to actually gave happened. She responded to reprimands with attitude post HHP clip. It wasn’t the interview that was a problem, it was her playing a CD- which is against yfm policy except shows such as Oskidos. The station has a playlist.
    Official clarification aside, yes Kanthan is, erm. But can we call things for what they are. She had it coming. While the gentleman who talks of her age is on the right track, what you say isn’t completely true.
