Review: DJ Glen Lewis vs DJ Ganyani

December 5, 2010 by

Albums that should be on your Christmas shopping list:

Glenzinto House Avenue Vol 5 mixed by Glen Lewis

The legendary Metro FM drive time host and DJ affectionately known as the Teddy Bear brings us another hot compilation. Glen is one of the house music pioneers in South Africa and is known for his unique bass-heavy mid-tempo style.

Glen is still relevant after being in the entertainment industry for over 2 decades, giving us nothing but the best  compilations. In his latest offering the Teddy Bear has tracks and remixes by Stimming, Phonique, Knee Deep, Boddhi Satva, Charles Webster Dj Le Roi and many more..

The compilation’s opening choon is  Nowhere a Clara Hill meets ATJAZZ (Original remix) a laid back track. I started tapping my feet from the moment i pressed play.  I couldn’t stop tapping my feet because with Glen’s sound you don’t dance like the Jika Majika peeps.

The stand out tracks in the album are Melodica by Stimming,What about you, a Charles Webster vocal mix and Astor a Shur-I-Kan remix..

On this album Glen mantains his standard and shows his peers and upcoming DJs that he’s a house guru…

In this album the legendary DJ produced two killer tracks “Remember “and “Not So Far” and they are enjoying massive airplay in most radio stations

In this album he compiled hits by Samantha James, Rocco, Dennis Ferrer, Chocklate, DJ Gregory and Gregor Salto. “Hard Time For Lovers “a Soulistic Music Mix is one of the hits in this compilation and other tracks to look out for in this album are  ”Work Me Over “- John Oudo (Main vocal Mix), God Will Set Me Free – Leroy Styles ft Mc Crown, Vem Rebola – DJ Gregory & Gregor Salto ft Dama Pancha & DJ Mankila (YS Main Mix) . Kwaaaaa @ dancing like jika ma jika

I’ll listen to hear if these are any good. I like house music with vocals though. That’s how I decide when I buy house/lounge music.

Im with you Xtra. I know the likes of Glen have been in the “industry” since 19voetsek, but i still dont feel their music. I find their/his typa house boring and i would neva,,,neva spend a dime on it.
Ganyani,,,i still have to sample this album, i once bought that album of his with that old hit,,”My dream,,is to fly,,,over the rainbow”,,,

Glen Lewis must really quit.. He used to play very nice sets, but lately he seems to just play for himself. surely he can stay at home n do that.. *yawn* Ganyani is the shiiittttt. those two tracks Not so far and remember where actually produced by a young boy that Ganyani has been mentoring…

I personally believe that this Glenzito’s best work yet, after the success of the 1st House Aveneu, the 2nd, 3rd, and the 4th one didnt really live up to its promise of delivering good quality music. I am shocked though that it gets a 8/10 when Clocks disc was a 9/10 and that somehow seems biased to me but then hey we dont see things in the same light *I can even go a step further and say that it makes it to my top 5 of the best albums to be released this year*.

Ganyani’s album is good as well but to be honest I wuldnt bother myself getting for the festive season. The main reason for that is after I heard it from a friend I was shocked to find oout that most of the songs in his compilation are also included in complications that were released earlier this year (Vinny Da Vinci Deep House Sounds 7 & Deep House Chronicles 3 by DJ Miggs) and the rest didnt really catch my attention.

Bottom line if I had to choose between these two, I’d go for Glenzito on any day.

We all have our preferences and tastes when it comes to music…. I personally would give Glen a 10 for this compilation… He has jus reminded us once again why he has been in the game for so long, well I Love EVERY track on that album… I understand people would rather listen to something more commercial but this compilation rocks! As for Glen’s Live sets, he does not compromise, he keeps it deep… And he is one of the Dj’s u’d rather watch play dan dance to…. Dat 4me is jus amazing… Havn’t heard most of the songs bt it is rather cheesy… Also great to listen to!

I luv Glenzito & I have all his albums. Mid Tempo 1 is still my fav. I don’t like his club djying tho coz he plays deep house, songs we’ve neva heard of b4. We’ll b standing & not dancing but he’s not bothered coz he wants 2 introduce party people 2 unheard music.
I’m also a Ganyani fan, he always delivers. I will buy his album
