Don’t Mess With Mrs Booth!
February 7, 2011 by Brown Shuga

As we’ve discussed here on JC before, a lot of people take chances with celebrities on Twitter. Often baya basukela nje out of nowhere… sometimes the celebs attack back, and often, the celebs take the high road and not entertain these sometimes “attention seekers”.
The latest celebrity to get involved in one of these, is Sonia Booth. In this case, I think she was provoked and was justified to get upset but I also believe that she could have just stopped entertaining the tweets and blocked them.

I will post the tweets and the fights she got involved in so that you can decide.
She tweeted the following tweet innocently….

Then Siyanda decided to take her on… why, I have NO idea! Please read from bottom to top:

He started asking her why she was comparing herself to celebs and Sonia hit back, calling him umchamo wase kuseni. I couldn’t help but LOL at this tweet. Talk about getting served.
This didn’t stop here though… she continued & this is the part I felt was kinda unnecessary:

Then other tweeps got on her case somehow… now please read from bottom up as well:

Okay, in this case, Sonia was supposed to have replied to “Speedy’s Towel” the originator of the tweet, not SibsMacd who retweeted.
But it seemed he had beef with her too because this continued… lol

tltltltl anyway… the whole point of this exercise is not to talk about Sonia really but to get a discussion started on how we think our celebrities or people in the public eye, as she calls them, should react when they receive criticism or what they perceive to be hate tweets!
- Should they ignore the tweets and carry on with their lives?
- Should they acknowledge the tweets and then block these “fans”? (Coz firstly, they follow these celebs and then tweet nonsense to them.)
- Should the celebs fight back like Sonia did? (Self defence lol)
- It depends on each person. E.g. You’d expect a Sonia to fight back but not someone like Unathi.
Celebrity or not, how would you feel if someone jumped on your case like our boy Siya did up there? Would you fight back like Sonia or Block and move along like your gal B aka Blockang?
Let us know!
(Dear RGB: Don’t you dare use this on your show. Dig your own news!)

I seriously don’t understand how ‘Haters’ think, if they do! How, the
hell do you follow someone you do not like…
‘Uphapha nje ngo mqhamo wakuseni’ Kwaaa!
‘I built the booth brand’ the brand still needs a lot of work though,
It would have been befitting to say ‘I am buildind the Booth brand’
anyway… All this makes me go TJO!

(Dear RGB: Don’t you dare use this on your

Kante how does this “following” thing work? I thought u follow someone because you love & can tolerate them…
Anyway, I think it depends on the individual how they react coz at the end of the day no body is made of steel & somethings just hurt nje & need the reaction out of you.
lwandie on Mon, 7th Feb 2011 5:32 am
Wow! Gotta admit I LoLed @ that “mchamo we’seni” statenment….I guess these guys are human too.
Personally I’d at worst block or just simply ignore such kind of peeps because the moment you start engaging them ,chances are the conversation will go downhill as it clearly did here.
Lue on Mon, 7th Feb 2011 5:40 am
I think ppl who sukelas these celebs vele need attention…but mina if I was one of them I’d just keep quiet n block like Bonang…coz ppl jump in n they end up saying nasty unnecessary bull thinking they know you coz they read about you in magazines papers etc…these people are normal well some (abo Sonia) just that they are in the public eye for a little while and when that hyped fame fades its not easy for them to remove the Celebrity position they have in our minds that is when ppl start saying nasty things why I don’t know
Kiki on Mon, 7th Feb 2011 5:55 am
I don’t know why people take their freedom of speech too far really. Some people are on Twitter to always start fights or just to seek attention the wrong way.
There is nothing wrong with what Sonia said. It was her opinion. And one thing I have noticed is that people are quick to think just bcoz she is married to Booth then he is ‘the man’. Booth started dating Sonia when she was already a famous model and that’s a fact. Sonia doesn’t take rubbish hence some people don’t like her.
Before I used to respond to rubbish Tweets but I realised ukbana I was giving those people my precious time and making them gain followers @ my expense so I stopped. Before I respond to a negative tweet I always check how many followers the whistle has if its less than 200 I won’t even entertain it. Block Block Block Block
JaguarCutie on Mon, 7th Feb 2011 6:15 am
i think it sonia’s replies served them right! Maka ba phoxe baphambane. Just cuz she is a err……”celeb” people think she wont respond to save her ”image”. Siyanda ebemdelela (was being disrespectful) and im sure he wouldn’t have said that to some random woman in the street in Soweto otherwise he would have got a hot clap!

Zida on Mon, 7th Feb 2011 7:42 am
Kwaaaa at the disclaimer and warning to RGB.
Go Sonia! Serves them right to think just because they are following celebrities they have a right to say anything to them. If they are provoked, I think they should fight back, then block them. Some of these people are just hiding behind Twitter. That Siyanda would never step up to Sonia and say something like that in real life. RME!
Zoe on Mon, 7th Feb 2011 8:10 am
My fear is remaining objective despite my gross dislike for this woman but deep down inside I know I would’ve probably reacted the same way she did. What can one do when randoms suffer from serious cases of disrespect? Uyabaqoqa!
Lustagp on Mon, 7th Feb 2011 8:21 am

i dont have a problem when these attention seekers on twitter attack this well-known people who think they are better than others & tend to be rude, but in this instance Sonia was tweeting innocently & this guy be a msukela nje. She never phoxa’s anyone on tweeter for no reason like some people. there is no wrong in what Sonia tweeted above.

syamthandaskota on Mon, 7th Feb 2011 9:08 am
Ok guys. Here is a thing. I admit that I was a bit rude but the point I was trying to communicate was that: We do have celebrities in SA. And as much as Sonia is a model, a lot of people only know her because she’s black and married to a white man who happens to be Booth. I still don’t think she’s a celebrity. But for her to think other people aren’t celebrities except Mandela was wrong. In SA we do have celebrities. She’s just NOT one of them.
mamamia on Mon, 7th Feb 2011 9:33 am

You thukad me too one day and the next day you asked for forgiveness saying you were drunk…LOL. You know I got love for you and I have told you this before and that’s the ONLY reason that made me unfollow you. Your tweets sometimes??? Hai cha!!
phlyhoney on Mon, 7th Feb 2011 10:13 am
I too shall LOL @ the disclaimer
Sonia was right to respond, people like sya thrive on getting attention on twitter by being rude to these so-called celebs. And I don’t know why he says ‘a lot of people know Sonia because she is black and etc…’. Maybe the people u surround yourself with Sya are a bit ignorant as to who this lady is, so like she said, do yo research.
We all have our different opinions on what a celebrity is so squashing her opinion is really being retarded.

I’m always amazed by the extends people go thru all in the name of remaining relevant especially on Twitter
Poor Siya ama JC are about to chama all over you…..tl tl tl tl
HoneyPhly on Mon, 7th Feb 2011 10:43 am
imagine if real celebrities had the time to even respond to tweets. e.g: paris hilton, Kim kardashian. now that would be fun!
I could care less what our ‘celebs’ do, as Sonia said it, they’re not celebs, they’re just in the public eye, utata is a celeb fo sho!
so those in the public eye “celebs wannabe’s” should defend their lousy a**es because they’re just like everyone else. just cause you appear in daily sun everyday doesn’t make you untouchable. I might not be in the papers everyday mara my bank balance is ten times more than yours, so you the ‘celeb’ should respect me rather!
these social network people can be blocked, create fake profiles and attack you over and over again. so until when will you just let it be? the best way to do this is to just ignore them, period.

This is disgusting. uSiya uyaphapha and he was wrong but Sonia’s response was waaaaay out of line.
I, for one, take offence to her using the word “Sis’bhuti” because for me this is beyond just her ‘putting Siyanda in his place” but it tells me something about her attitude towards the homosexual community at large. The word “sis’bhuti” (if we can even call it that) is derogetory and by her using it she’s spitting on the face of each and every homosexual who read that tweet.
I most probably won’t get very far with this but I’m very interested in finding out how LG feels about having a homophobe representing their brand. *excuse the Engrish, I’m just too emotional right now

Cant get over the “ke ngwanyana wa soweto, majita a kasi a tla go tshela ka doom”…lol. Thats gangsta!!!, not suprising coming from Sonia coz modelesque and WAGallicious as her life has become, she really is still ngwanyana wa soweto, one of the reasons i love her.
I agree tho, that wasnt very classy even for ngwanyana wa soweto, she could have responded to Siya so that she remained the mature and classy, and not stooping to his level bcos what he did was wrong.
@Siya..the argument about celebs happened mo JC, it woulndt have been offencife for you to debate with her if she wuld endulge you, but you cursed her out and insulted her undeservedly mfe2 that was just not alryt.

In 2001 I was taking a gap year after matric thinking about what to do the next year and I had no time to know ugly models who didn’t even win Miss SA,uyeva ke Ndebele? If that is being slow I’m happy to be slow for knowing this gal when she started appearing on Mags as Booth’s wife. Is she in the same class as Siya? If she is not then we shouldn’t be having this because it says more about her than it does about Siya. If Siya is an attentions seeker what is a woman of class doing exchanging vulgar words with shim and even calling shim derogatory names. Mnxn Straatmate tendencies! # teamSiya. Yintoni uBhutsisi kona? To think that people where called that in 19voetsek when being gay was still taboo.
MashDiva on Mon, 7th Feb 2011 4:42 pm
My 2c worth: If this Siya person ddnt agree he shudv voiced his opinion without being rude, he chose 2 folo Mrs Booth no1 forced him. Leyena Sonia shudv just ignored, blocked a move right along!#justsaying#

Lela on Mon, 7th Feb 2011 5:01 pm
Lol @JustPS the thing is I don’t understand why we are called slow for not knowing Sonia before Booth. Futhi uSiya is very young so he was telling the truth when he said he only knew her because of Booth. Mna shem if I were to be a celeb I would be like BS,she is one woman who knows the power of ignore. God knows I would have to pray and fast very hard to be able to do that. But ke if I’d have to phoxa I would still do it like BS,she is one woman who knows how to phoxa with class.

wow i’m new uhm……*shy*
i love twars!!especially between a celebrity n a random follower cz some followers just cause unecessary fights to look ”cool”,so celebs should learn how to handle such situations.
#Ithankyou

OMG did she have to get all down to their level. like seriously celebrity or not the best way to deal with haters is just to ignor them as they doing what they doing to get attention.
If that person aint adding any value to your being …dont waste your time and energy on them.
Mrs Booth needs to control her temper tjo !
