Gosh, I can’t deal! How could she???

Bathong! … Remember the dress that Gert gave to Khloe Kardashian at the BF Cheeky dinner??

He mos gave one to her and Kim, Kim then gave hers to Kourtney to wear at the People’s Choice Awards and that was cool coz it gave Gert good reviews and as a result even got an order from The Hills’ star Kristin Cavallari .

But imagine my shock this morning when I got an email from a reader asking me to check out Khloe’s ebay page…

SHE IS SELLING THE GIFT.

WORST OF ALL, FOR $51!! That’s like R365!!

Am I the only one who sees something wrong with this picture? Like really now… I know they always sell their stuff on ebay etc but gifts too? Couldn’t she at least have given it away to someone? Even if it’s a maid or whatever… At least the designer wouldn’t get to know about it…

Granted “a portion” of the proceeds will go to charity but still, where does the rest go?

I just find this act tasteless. And yes, they have loads of stuff, have no idea who Gert is but the whole thing of “selling gifts” whether it was a Gert or not, doesn’t sit well with me. Check the “sale” HERE.

Wow! I’m very flabbagasted. This is NOT good for Gert’s image at all, forget the E-bay publicity he’ll apparently receive this is bad, as the designer will now be known as the guy who’s dress was so cheap it was auctioned online for less than a dime on E-bay. This can have a negative impact on one’s brand equity in the long run.

Khloe did this deliberately to dent Gert’s future. That’s why I don’t really believe in celebrity endorsements. One can establish a brand without these schlebs.

To be honest I can not see how any of this takes anything away from Gert’s creativity and authencity as a designer.Most celebs will only ever wear some items once and either donate them to their prefared charities or auction them for charity.Yes it was a gift,Gert was actually quite shrewd to give them those dresses because designers do that for celebs all the time in order to get the right publicity and judging from two of his creations that have already been worn to major events I’d say it worked.

Maybe I’m ignorant about eBay,but I dont quite get the offense.I’ve seen every designer garb under the sun sold on ebay..worn,hardly worn..brand new whatever.Its just an auction nje.

As for the bids,without undermining Gert, chances are who ever will buy that dress will buy it because it was worn by Khloe not because it is a Gert design so yaa if it sells for a low price.So if anyone is to be embarrased (if there is even anything to be embarrased about at all) it would be Khloe.

As Xtra rightfully put it,Gert is an amazing designer,obviously very well recognised in S.A and still breaking his wings elsewhere,but from a global perspective he is still only a drop in the ocean of a very tough industry.I’m sure even the likes of Thula Sindi,David Tlale,Bongiwe Walaza,Nkensani Nkosi just to name a few .who have show cased their work on international runways do not go about with this sense of entitlement of being above certain things.

I understand its easy to be emotional about things and people we hold dear but if ever poor Gert is feeling bad right now, it is likely to be from some of the comments made napha.

lol value is a very relative term bathong,if I took some Jimmy Choos to spme flee market at the back of beyond and tried to convince people buy them at what I consider their value in the fashion world im not likely to get my asking price…Gert’s creations are valued at 2000+ in S.A but he is still in the process of establishing himself in the international market.

I don’t follow the lives of the Kardashians,I just think the whole thing is naff but on this one cut the girl some slack,I just don’t see the malice in what she did at all.

This is very sad hey.
For a once reputable paper, they have really dumbed down and as readers we HAVE to take them to task over shoddy reporting.
It’s a disgrace to the professiona nd it’s stupid mistakes like this that gives the government even more ammunition for a MAT.
It’s sad for us who do our job properly and would rather not run a story than to ru it with no facts.

Sowetan needs to re-think this train their people.

Hello @ All… I agree with Lwandie,Extra and Lusta on the Gert dress… these celebs wear clothes once or they sometimes given to them for the night of the event… I doubt Khloe would want to be caught by the paparazi wearing the same dress twice…

We should be glad that Kim instead of chucking the dress out she gave it to her sis to wear it and really the Kardashians were not in SA for Gert mara for the Brutal Fruit event but it seems Gert has gotten more exposure than the alcohol…so it really is not a bad thing…

so this is how it went…

Bonang MC for brutal fruit cheeky… kardashian sisters brand ambassodors… an A3 would be won, but instead of the initial people that were chosen it was given out to a random person in the crowd who doesn’t even have a licence because the chick who ‘won’ it (Dineo) was pillow talking with the person who was behind the event… Bonang told Gert to capitalize on the event whom later gave the Kardashian sisters free dresses to get him exposure… Kim gave her dress to older sister Kourtney who later wore it to some event. Khloe Kardashian was not impressed with her LAME dress who later tried giving it away to a friend who wore it and wasn’t happy about it. then came an idea to put it up on E-Bay to try and get Gert more exposure. which didn’t work out well with JC bloggers who are apparantley dubbed “scores of south africans”, Sowetan later got hold of the WRONG version of the story and corrected it with information from JC site.
