Meet Isidingo’s New Family: The Sibekos
April 14, 2011 by Brown Shuga
Remember our article on 25 February 2011 when we “unofficially” told you that Isidingo was turning lead contracted actors into “call actors”? We also told you that the Matabane family weren’t too happy about this, and we also threw in there that Vusi Kunene and Letoya Makhene would join the cast as the new family that will take the role first occupied by the Matabanes. Forgotten? Read the article HERE.
After our article, Isidingo tweeted:

I replied to their tweet and asked if they were making them call actors instead and they never replied…
Since we reported that, Hlubi Mboya has left/is leaving Isidingo and Don Mlangeni aka Zeb Matabane is in last week’sYou Magazine saying that he told the Isidingo producers to F**k off. LOL.
Now finally Isidingo has confirmed that there is indeed a new family joining the Cast of Isidingo from 14 June 2011. So, next time we write about a RUMOUR, take it seriously!
Here is info about the family :
A new family is arriving in Horizon Deep. Meet the Sibekos – the powerful and charismatic family behind the multinational conglomerate Sibeko Gold. Their arrival coincides with the launch of a brand new development, revitalizing and re-energizing this former mining town. They promise jobs, investment and benefits to the community. But are their intentions too good to be true? And will everyone greet them with open arms?

The family is headed up by shrewd businessman JEFFERSON SIBEKO (Vusi Kunene). The younger brother of absent patriarch LINCOLN SIBEKO, Jefferson has long stood in his older brother’s shadow. Now is Jefferson’s time to make a mark on a new project in a new location. But elements conspire to feed the bitterness and resentment he feels about his place in the pecking order, and soon he will be put to the ultimate test: is Jefferson Sibeko a man who will put his own interests above those of his nearest and dearest – even if it means trampling over family members to achieve his goal? And the family member most directly in his firing line is his beloved niece, NIKIWE (Linda Sokhulu). Nikiwe is a fiery, passionate pioneer with big dreams, bigger plans and the guts to pursue them. But when her advancement is at odds with her uncle’s schemes, will a rift develop between the older and younger Sibeko, threatening to break their bond forever?
The answer is ‘yes’ if Jefferson’s wife KATLEGO SIBEKO (Kgomotso Christopher) has anything to do with it. As the wife of Jefferson Sibeko, Katlego has big ambitions for her husband, and we should fear for anyone who gets in her way! Her marriage may be on unsteady ground, but that doesn’t mean she won’t fight tooth and claw to preserve her status in this world. But Nikiwe does have an ally in her best friend AYANDA DIALE (Letoya Mangezi). Raised by the Sibeko family after losing her father (an event closely linked to one of the Deep’s existing residents), Ayanda is currently regrouping after her musical career imploded during a very public meltdown. Returning to the comfort and support of her surrogate family, Ayanda does not find the sanctuary she craved when she attracts the attention of Jefferson’s son SIFISO (TBA).
Sifiso has long been obsessed with Ayanda, and this obsession has already resulted in a number of mysterious ‘accidents’ befalling those closest to Ayanda. It doesn’t help matters any that the son’s unrequited feelings for Ayanda are also secretly shared by his father!
And of course, any new arrivals on the Deep are going to attract the attention of its current residents. Will Barker and Cherel welcome the new family as allies or as enemies? Well… knowing Barker and Cherel, what do you think? And how will these new faces impact on the Matabanes, Vusi Moletsane and the Molois? Let’s just say things are about to change…
Blood is thicker than water in this family, but when new blood is introduced, it’s only a matter of time before this blood could be spilt…
Happy about them?

Its exciting but I just wish the writers could have written something more interesting to keep the Matabane’s instead of creating other characters to replace them. There is no loyalty in what was done to Zeb and them.
Will see in the long run if their choice was wise or not. Because as much as the writers have an interesting storyline going on right now, there are certin parts of Isidingo that are not up to par and tend to drag.
Anyway the Matabane family has been falling apart for a while now, shem. Ish go ruff bafwethu.

Yaneh! KuActing kurough.one moment you are hot, the next you aren’t! Shame poor those who’ve lost their jobs. Generations is next. Sophie Ndaba will leave soon and Katlego Danke. Followed by Sonia Sedibe. Sofie Ndaba and Sonia Sedibe don’t really need the Generations job anyway. They are just doing it for the fans.especially Sonia. She is so sweet to still be on Generations for us shem sweetypie. As for Isidingo, we’ll get used to the changes
J-Girl on Thu, 14th Apr 2011 10:51 am
The storyline sounds rather interesting!
I am glad Isdee is back in the frontrow again!
I understand with actors its their jobs and all but I just wish we would see fresh faces on our screens with new exciting things but I guess its not alwaus possible!

By the way, I heard via the grape nton nton that Isidingo will be moving to a new time slot (18:00) if this is true, all I can say is R.I.P The Wild, yours was a life short-lived!
Zest on Thu, 14th Apr 2011 10:56 am
Very interesting..
Bt I hate 2 c the Matabane’s go..
& Meshack was such a gud acter smtym ago bt I guess the creative team ran out of ideas, the guy is just wondering now…
Buhlebonga on Thu, 14th Apr 2011 10:58 am
I’m so excited about this, I actually did an airpunch at work when the email got in my inbox.
Like quality actors. And this with Isidingo moving to 18h00 in October, I’m so happy they are bringing in a new storyline that will surely make SA tv the best and also with The Wild pulling out all the stops, and the viewers win!
Now Generations can you do the same? Introduce ANOTHER family that will makes us sit on the edge of our seats!
LadyM on Thu, 14th Apr 2011 10:59 am

@BS kwaaaaaaaaaaa, @Lumza7 is rooting for Isindigo clearly.
Lumza7 on Thu, 14th Apr 2011 11:13 am
Aowa BS, I’ve watched a few episodes of the show (in fact I’m watchin the repeat now) and all I can say is DRY!
It feels like I’m watching an episode of 50/50 akuna drama whatsoever… If there is drama it’s taking too long to unfold.
There’s nothing compelling me to watch the show shem… As a person who’s been watching soapies for most of my life I know a bore when I see one.
There’s more drama behind the scenes than there is on my screen.
Oh and I haven’t heard a single “killer one-liner” and Cherel drops one every scene.
The Wild may take on Generations and win, but Isidingo? Aneva shem, bangawa ba balance-e nge phondo lika bhejana.
Pappy on Thu, 14th Apr 2011 11:13 am
@Buhlebonga Generations did that mos with Motaung family…
*Grins*
Im so excited with everything happening on isidingo, the new time slop i can watch my beloved Rhythm City in peace. and the new family, i think Linda is a very strong actress and i think Katlego did a Kgomotso did a great job in “4 Play” i hope she doesnt dissapoint.

Tjo ho thata beso!
BS, clearly you are on The Wild team…Haayi mina it failed to grab me ka those first 4 episodes. #team Fergusons though.
Isidingo iya baba shem. Loved how they always make sure that they’ve got hectic stories one after the other, so that we never have a dry season. I’m still amazed and the life Cherel brought back into the show, i know it wasn’t her doing alone, mara cabanga!
Letebele on Thu, 14th Apr 2011 11:20 am

Whoop whoop. Great new actors. Vusi nd Linda are gud in what they do. The wife should be very scared of Cherel, she’ll take her husby under her nose. LOL. Cnt they just leave the Matabane’s alone. Love that family. So excited can’t wait 4 the new cast. The creator of Isidingo is a clever woman/man. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE that show.

What a good inclusion into the sopie. it should keep me intertained for sure.
its a known fact that South_africans take time to warm up to something new like the wild, so Isidingo will most definetly keep its loyal viewers happy.

WOW!! Isidingo is taking “The Wild” HEAD ON!! This is gonna get interesting
Pitty the same can’t be said about Gaynerations!!
Even if they wantd to recruit…most TOP actors (except Tony Kgoroge..lol) are in the Wild, Isidingo and Archie Moroka is at Scandal anyway!
Lumza7 on Thu, 14th Apr 2011 11:49 am
Lol! If The Wild changes their time slot they’ll lose their “Open Time Viewers” so shem they’re stuck between a rock and a hard place… Unless Mnet moves open time although I can’t see this happening.
Brown Shuga on Thu, 14th Apr 2011 11:53 am
Guys excuse my ignorance but when did Open Time come back? Was there an announcement? I only heard about it from you guys… seriously.. nothing on google.
Lumza7 on Thu, 14th Apr 2011 12:00 pm
@BS Not sure when it came back but it is back ’cause my friend n I watched 30mins of Idols’ at her place on Sunday n she’s on compact… It’s now from 18:00 to 18:30 (and I think it may only be available to DSTV subscribers on ‘other’ packages ONLY)
Maratahelele on Thu, 14th Apr 2011 12:01 pm
#TeamIsidingo all the way.Seems like @BS and @Nomkikizelo are the only #TeamTheWild,ag shame, lol.Hope they are not praising the show due to loyalty to our JC family, the Fergusons.
I am sad that Matabanes will be leaving us though
.They have been part of our lives for so long, its like “The Bold” getting rid of the Forresters, aowa.
I like the new family.Nomasondo is a very good actor, still dnt knw why GAYnerations got rid of her.She looks more cute and slimmer, the hairstyle that she made famous is also back, ayeye.
Move over The Wild,Isidingo is back, lol

@Pappy so the Motaung family is going to be main? That would be interesting.
Speaking of the Motaung’s I’d have preferred for Tselane Tambo to be Shaz’s mother. Like that lady sounds like she’s from the ghetto and her asking Khaphela to hurry up and carry her luggage wasn’t convincing.
Anyway I think The Wild and Isidingo will do us proud. And obviously Isidingo will trump them!

I started mourning the demise of the Matabane’s when they killed Letti, made Parsons and Nandipha divorce etc. Etc. They killed that family Structure slowly but surely! So its been a long time coming. So I saw the Matabane’s die. Its sad, but I was prepared. But I think thy r fools if they let go of Agnes Matabane. That woman is juSt TOO GOOD! As for “The Wild”. As the new kid on the block I was really rooting for it. Plus I LOVE!! “The Fergusons”. But haaai so far their storyline is not captivating. I will commend them for a great production and stellar cast. But wats the point, if U have all of that, but don’t have a story that captivates your audience to watch?!? So far… “The Wild” is dryer than Mam’ Ruby’s afro! I know that Twitter is not really an indication of audiences and viewers. But yesterday I tweeted; “All The Wild” hashtags r becoming more less and less on my timeline, with each passing day”. I now probly only see about 4-5 people going #TheWild when its airing. Kiki being The Queen Of The Wilderness. LOL! *hides from Kiki behind Shona*

.
I hope with the introduction of the new family, Isidingo brings back the magic. As much as it is still a good show we have seen better in the past. The return of Cherel isn’t exactly mind blowing, there was a time when it was plain annoying actually. Except for Benjamin the Le Roux aren’t doing it for me. My other favourite is Sechaba.

In reality, anything on dstv can’t compete with things that are on welfare tv nje by virtue of numbers alone. Even if the wild brings on the drama, isidingo will still smash the rating simply because not enough people have dstv as opposed to those who don’t! #WelfareWillKeepWinning!

They should move ISIDINGO to 20:00 cos there is nothing better to watch that time. it died when ajax , zamani, and those jigga boys came. it has passengers its gets all the entertainment rejects. Isidingo does not take just anyone. rhytm city is going to lose it also zamani shouldnt have been there and as for that lucila woman she is the dumbest woman iv ever seen she makes that is damn boring. Isidingo keep up the good work. if it moves to 18:00 some of us have not arrived home yet

We have followed Isidingo faithfully since it started, but they are now changing the whole story line, removing all the main characters and changing the demographics. The new enthusiasts seem only interested in the “gorgeous girls”. Please move it to mid-afternoon, not prime time….
