If They Were South African

Whenever I look at some African Americans, I find myself unwillingly slotting them within one of our 11 cultures because their tendencies fit so well with our everyday stereotypes. With this said, if certain Hollywood stars were South African and based on the similarity between their characteristics and our cultural stereotypes… what culture would they be and why? Ok here’s my brief list:

Please note that this is strictly aimed for people with a sense of humour and to, in no way, perpetuate stereotypes or reflect my personal opinions. If anything this is a reflection of all the stereotypes that we, South Africans, subject each other to everyday.

Ok, with the public service announcement out of the way. Let’s do this!

Jennifer Hudson: She’d be Zulu. And not just Zulu from ekasi or the burbs. She’d be one of those rural stubborn ones who pronounce All-Stars as Oilistas. She also looks the part.


Diddy: He’d be Zulu. His love tree… or web if you will, tells all the tales.


Ray J: He’d be Tsonga or Venda (No Homo).Kim Kardashian knows.


Alicia Keys: She’d be Xhosa… Mashonda knows. You know what they say about Xhosa honies and how they can take any man they want from anyone any time!!


Beyonce and J.Lo: Either Xhosa or South Sotho… their booties are all the evidence needed.



Kelly Rowland: She has Pedi tendencies and her hotness is underrated like that of many Pedi girls I know. Perhaps its coz she doesn’t necessarily put a lot of effort sometimes just like most Pedi Chicks.
