Castle Milk Stout Pause In The Sky Event

June 24, 2011 by

Castle Milk Stout hosted us at a cool event at Turbine Hall in Newtown on Wednesday night. The theme was “Pause In The Sky” and they were introducing a new  brand ritual, “Pour.Pause.Sip.Enjoy”, which is how they think we should drink Milk Stout. Well, those of you who do heheh.

I think Turbine Hall is one of my favourite venues, I liked the set up, and it was beautifully lit in CMS colours. I think the Castle Milk Stout brand colours are beautiful actually, and rich.. Kinda like how the beer looks.

Back in the day there used to be lots of beer TV ads and you know on TV they will make beer seem like it’s the most “delicious” thing ever so I always had this belief that the white foam on a Milk Stout tasted like MILK. One day  someone at home was drinking Stout and they left half the glass unfinished so I was only too pleased to take the glass to the kitchen and when I got to the kitchen, I downed the whole thing quickly before I could get caught and BOY did I almost puke…  I think nje since that day I swore never to drink beer again… I couldn’t undersandhow anyone could enjoy something so bitter.

Back to the event:

Those of us who were invited and CMS consumers who took part in the campaign competition were treated to a dinner in the sky experience in full view of Johannesburg’s skyline. We could each bring 3 friends to enjoy the experience with us and I sadly didn’t get to go up and enjoy the Dinner In The Sky coz I had to leave but my guests (Lebza4sho was one of them), had an awesome time, even though I hear Lebza freaked out on take off… Besides introduce the Pour, Pause, Sip and enjoy ritual, the whole “dinner in the sky” thing was also to demonstrate different food pairings which go well with a Castle Milk Stout.. and I believe Oysters were served as starters during the dinner. Not everyone who was at the event had the sky dinner though, so there was still lots of food and drinks to be enjoyed at the venue.

There were 1 or 2 “famous” faces at the event..

“Sechaba” from Isidingo (konje whats his name?) was there with his buddies.

The funniest thing about him being there is that Black Coffee was playing… if You watch Isidingo you’ll know why that’s funny.

I love what Black Coffee is wearing. He did a great job on the decks as usual but my tolerance of house music is very very low so I was yawning halfway through his set…

Zakes Bantwini (more house music) also took to the stage and I stood very close to the stage because I wanted to see what it is that makes everybody call him the greatest performer. He does a lot of crazy unusual dance moves and dresses sorta well so I guess that’s it. The lisp bothers me slightly though. If he was still a kid I’d recommend speech therapy because it helped with my son’s lisp, he can say “S” properly now… it’s not “TH” anymore. Anyway, that doesn’t take anything away from the beautiful music he’s given us this past year. The CMS guests loved his performance!

There was a lot of “tweeting” going on at the event and I guess it was very clever for the organisers to have a screen where we could see all tweets with the #CMSPause hash tag. I found myself tweeting nje just coz I wanted to see my tweets on the screen lol and that of course helped to make everyone else on Twitter aware of this brand. Clever!

Last night’s event was the first of three. Durban and Pretoria will host the forthcoming events respectively and CMS is giving consumers (and three of their friends) a chance to win a “Pause in the Sky” experience in each city.

CASTLE MILK STOUT PAUSE IN THE SKY EXPERIENCES:

  • Saturday, 02 July 2011: Durban (Vodacom Durban July, Grayville Racecourse)
  • Wednesday, 13 July 2011: Pretoria (Pretoria Show Grounds)

I guess Sechaba is following Black Coffee even in real life. Kwaaaa. I also like what he’s wearing. He’s such a stylish guy. Thanks to Voytek for hooking him up.

It is such a clever and cool concept. I gather Bonnke came up with it? He’s doing well.

Kwaaa @ Zakes’ lisp. Maybe a speech therapist can still help him. Next time you see him give him the number to your son’s therapist, BS.

my first eperience with the milk stout though was about 10 years back when i visited a few friends of mine ethekwini, they mixed castle and stout in a big glass and we drank. i must say it tasted devine. sadly i have not had stout till now. but i will def indulge in it one day.

ok I’m a lil hurt by that lisp part nhe. I have a HUGE lisp, as in sausage = thauthage/faufage. If I ever meet you BS, i’ll just smile, hug, and wave goodbye. Its even worse that my name starts with an ‘S’, *continues reading*

  24. mamamia on Fri, 24th Jun 2011 12:41 pm

The do sounds like it was fun, infact i’m gon enter the competition.

Yah neh, the milk in milk stout also confused me, i used to think hmm maybe this beer tastes milky, very much the same way i used to think the dove soap actually comprised of a quarter fresh cream, i was like we using real cream on our faces.

    To be young neh!

When it comes to competitions of events I gave up with so much dissapointment.Me and My F we so sure that we we going to win the Brutal fruit function with Bonang in Campsbay,Coz we entered immediatly after twas posted.I waited thinking that BS will do as usuall the following week by anouncing the winners but doooh…

Tjo! Hay si rough ke i stout if it makes you wana go for no:2

@ Lorrelai it sounds like you exactly like my doughter. She was busy telling me that she now prefrers a cooked custad in the mornings not cerels, and I was looking at how funny shes saying it with a lisp.Uthi yi castast so you can imagine with the lisp ”Casthasth” no limi lonke ngaphandle. They say I mus leave her and not take her to therapist coz it does’nt help.So if BS says it works Im deffinetly gonna take her.

  27. Cutypie on Fri, 24th Jun 2011 1:57 pm

    Lol..eish Mr Dee, I meant “u might have a point there”..#typo

  28. Brown Shuga on Fri, 24th Jun 2011 3:50 pm

@lorrelai and @Nkey speech therapy helps.
My son saw the Speech Therapist once a week for 30 minutes and she would give him tasks for us to do at home and not only did she sort out the lisp (it has to do with the tongue, without being aware, they push it between the teeth when they make the S sound), she also taught him games, new words, increased his vocab and I don’t know what she did but he started to get more and more confident.

His name is Siyanda and people used to laughg whenever he said his name as “Thiyanda”… he says his name with pride now and I didn’t think it would be possible.

    #TeamSpeechTherapy

  31. lorrelai on Fri, 24th Jun 2011 9:33 pm

Thanks BS, I never even knew there was something one could do to fix a lisp, otherwise I would have thorted it out a long time ago.

(Pls don’t mind the ‘e’ at the end of this comment, it won’t go away, #soannoying! e
