Sabotaged At The Ford Figo Rally

A couple of weeks ago Lelo AKA MsLeloB AKA Brown Shuga, gave me a call asking me to join her for the Ford Figo TDCi Rally. This was going to be Ford’s Eco Driving Challenge between Just Curious and other publications across the country.

Ford has launched the Ford Figo diesel which is simply amazing when it comes to fuel consumption. If JC was a car magazine I would go on about other features that it has but since we are not i will just inform you that it is value for money and it is an awesome car to drive.

Back to how Lelo sabotaged this publication, we had to be at the airport at 6h45am for our initial briefing. I should have sensed sabotage at this moment as Lelo was 15 mins late. However it did not matter as this was not the beginning of the race, we were put on the Gautrain and transported to Sandton where we would have breakfast and be briefed. Here it was decided that Lelo will be the navigator using the Nokia C7 that was provided courtesy of Nokia and I was going to be the driver.

The race worked just like The Amazing Race except that we were given GPS coordinates and instructions on what to do when we got to the destination in order to get our next clue. Pretty much fun stuff.

Team Just Curious was leading the race as we were driving around Johannesburg because I am pretty much a walking JHB navigator. We got to the Ford dealership in Bruma and we were given coordinates that told us to get on the N3 and this is when we knew that we were on our way to Durban. At this point the only people that were remotely close to us were the Juicy Africa team with Denis Phathudi as their navigator. As we were leading the race, Lelo threw the biggest curve ball at me. SHE ASKED TO PEE! Who pee’s during a race? I have watched The Amazing Race for many seasons and not once have I seen someone ask to stop and pee. For me, this article ends here.

Soon after I had to stop and allow her to pee, the other team got closer and eventually overtook us. Well, this is not entirely Lelo’s fault as they were doing +160km/h on the N3 whilst I was sticking to 120km/h as the other objective of the race was to showcase how the car is a fuel saver (4.7lt per 100km). Still, though, if Lelo hadn’t asked to pee, they wouldn’t have beaten us. Alas, we drove to Harrismith, Michaelhouse, PMB and then finally arrived at our final destination which was Ballito. Ford put us up at The Caledon where we had supper and a small prize giving ceremony. Team Jucy Africa was given an award for arriving first at the final destination. Team Just Curious came 3^rd in the Fuel Saving Category whilst Jucy Africa was number 5. The Final Tally for this leg:

The sabotage didn’t end on that day. We were told at the end of the night that we should assemble at the car park at 6h30am in order to be on time for our flight. The next morning, we woke up and it was drizzling, we had to drive to someone’s room door because she was not willing to walk in the rain with her weave. Does anyone want to guess the name of this individual? All in all, it was great day and competition. I just wish the Ford team had communicated that over and above the prize for saving fuel; there would be a prize for those that arrived first despite wasting fuel by doing 180km/h. Yes, I’m bitter!

Offtopic : My friend is soooo insensitive. Yesterday she calls me to tell that she just saw my ex in his car with another woman. I was like “Dude! U tellin me bcos?”
I mean as my friend I expect her to undestand that Im still on the GET-OVER-HIM phase en she shud avoid mentioning him at all costs. Let alone to tell me that she saw the bastard with another woman. I can bet that it was not the same woman I caught him with.
