Droves bright eyed and bushy tailed industry players and wannabes alike walked the red carpet, posed and pouted for photographers… and of course FAKE air-kisses were also in the mix. All this was at the YOU SPECTACULAR AWARDS held at Emperor’s Place on Saturday. Winners list HERE.
While walking the red carpet I got secretly excited after spotting the hot-mama, Kuli Roberts, doing best on the red carpet, Sadly, that was the last I saw of her. Was a bit disappointed coz with her around she’d have added some vavavoom to the whole experience.
But oh well…life goes on. The red carpet hubbub soon died with guests proceeding to the main venue, where it went down. The event was straight to the point and did just the right dose of what needed to be done and said without any unnecessary fluff.
Gareth Cliff popcorned onto the stage and announced the sultry husky voiced diva Bonang as his co-host for the evening. As can be expected, he was his usual attention-grabbing self and she was just as we know her- confidence personified!!
The invite said: dress to turn heads… #yawn# No one really did that. Just matric dance typa dresses galore. Everyone, with the exception of one or two people went the safe route. SA celebs!! By now you know I am crazy about Bonang and it’s for all the right reasons.

This girl is a mover and shaker of note. Glad she’s finally penetrating the white market as it’s long overdue and that’s where the money is #winx. In 2011 she’s still making history as the first person to do this and that, hence, I fittingly call her The First Lady.
Ok enough about her now!! Between being serenade by Jamali, Prime Circle, The Graeme Watkins Project, we were also visually treated to Fashion Rocks which was incorporated into the musical performances with some of SA’s finest designers showing (off) their creations with scorching models like Dorah Mtetwa and Blanca Chanjes walking the ramp
The night belonged to Top Billing’s Jennie D. She swept clean in all the categories she was nominated in, deservedly so though, considering YOU magazine readers had the final say.
Gareth Cliff also followed suit clinching awards in all the categories of nomination. Triple C couple (Cool, Calm and Humble as Brown Dash puts it), Tshepo and Salamina Moses graced the event.
Still on couples, my friend said Danny K would mos def write another dedication album to Lee-Ann after she and husband, Nicky van der Walt, scooped Favourite Couple.
Was such a spiritual experience witnessing first-hand how Mr. Shona Ferguson worships the ground his lovely wife, Connie, walks on.

The Wild actress Gail Nkoane also told us that she’s working on an album and featuring on other artists’ projects. She’s wearing an outfit from Religion.

My bishy side is on break that’s why I can’t fault the event or search deeper to find faults. Perhaps I’ve grown softer or all the free food did the trick.
On a serious note though, well-done to the YOU SPECTACULAR team for understanding that simplicity is key and yep next year is another year I guess. Ta!!
