Club Hush Responds To Minnie’s Allegations
August 15, 2011 by Brown Shuga
In their own words, here’s the statement from HUSH:

Johannesburg, Monday 15th August 2011, Hush, Johannesburg’s premier nightclub, we do not usually respond to negative publicity based on lies, but we are compelled to refute the utterly false, and damaging accusations made by patron Minnie Dlamini on Twitter, and the media this weekend.
TV presenter Minnie interviewed our guest artist, DJ Nasty on SABC 1 Live this past Friday evening. The management then called me to request access for Minnie and her friends to HUSH to watch him perform. We welcomed Minnie and her friends to Hush and provided a VIP table and complimentary vodka – even though our VIP section was full of paying clients.
At some point in the evening after 2am, Minnie and her friends got into an argument with another client at the next door table. These were clients from London (and not African as she stated in her interviews). We are particularly distressed at the undertones of xenophobia in her statements. Hush prides itself on being the venue of choice for international stars, including John Legend, several international DJ’s as well as people from all countries of the world.
As soon as our security professionals were aware of the altercation they intervened to resolve it and restore order. Hush has a zero tolerance policy against violence and any aggressive behaviour by anyone. During the argument Minnie alleged that she was hit in the face. Hush’s owner Mr Stephane Cohen personally comforted her and made sure she was not injured and tried to calm her down.
Minnie alleged that Hush Security had assaulted her, but, as was confirmed by her friends, it was allegedly a client at the next door table who she had got into an argument with. Minnie was caught up in the fight and was hit unintentionally by a male HUSH client. Never was she punched intentionally by any of Hush staff let alone even the client. She was only on the receiving end of a punch that was not meant for her, but for our manager who actually tried to protect Minnie.
Despite looking for the alleged assailant for almost 30 minutes with our head bouncer, neither Minnie nor her friends were able to identify anyone whom she allege assaulted her. That was our understanding at the time followed by Minnie herself choosing to leave the venue at that point. Her friends all stayed and continued to party as if nothing had happened.
Hush prides itself on its reputation as a safe, friendly and welcoming venue for women and men to enjoy a sophisticated and relaxed environment with the best music and entertainment. This is proved time and time again by the many loyal patrons who return every week and who act respectfully towards each other and our security professionals
Our security professionals are highly trained to deal with people in a professional and non-violent manner. Alcohol and ego can be a dangerous mix we know, but we have a long and proud reputation of being a safe and sophisticated establishment. We are concerned about the safety of all Hush patrons and we value their loyalty deeply.
We are saddened that Minnie had a bad experience at Hush and we apologise for that, notwithstanding that it had nothing to do with Hush Management, nor our security professionals. It is the countless South African and International celebrities and friends who trust us with their celebrations and events which have made HUSH the premier entertainment venue for Joburg’s beautiful, Rich and Famous. We look forward to welcoming them again!

This story was was not geling properly vele. Trust celebrities to omit details so they can gain public sympathy.
Sorry Minnie that you were at the receiving end of an inadvertent blow – on women’s month nogal – but next time try to be more truthful in your statements cause your integrity is fast going down the drain.

Wow, and the plot thickens, now u Minnie nguye oxokayo.. this is sad shame…
I still think Minnie did not deserve this no matter what she did or say..
guys someone tell me, what’s wrong with saying someone is a foreign national if they are? i think this Xenophobia thing is now misused. its like we South Africans are deliberately made to feel like we cant say our views about foreigners even if they do wrong things, if we do say what we think we are xenophobic. I have noticed though that foreigners can talk shit about South Africans and our country and its cool for them to do so, that is not xenophobia on their side. I even hate this word xenophobia u know.. if yall dont believe me go and read Sowetan comments.. its sad shame, and to think we have opened our doors for the whole of Africa yet they still hate us cos we are apparently “xenophobic” smh.
excuse my ranting, just had to burp..

Julz on Mon, 15th Aug 2011 3:01 pm
@KewlGal: I think the problem in this particluar instance was the fact that Minnie didnt even establish that the person was a foreign national but rather relied on a very biased opinion of accents. Secondly and most importantly, at the end of the day it really doesnt mattter where the person is from. The only relevant detail is that the person hit her, to identify him based on his nationality which she incorrectly identified based on his accent of all things nogal does have xenophobic undertones to it…
Just my 2cents

phindiku on Mon, 15th Aug 2011 3:04 pm
Hush statement seems to be more defensive than sympathetic or apologetic. In fact they seem to be making excuses for what happened and eluding its Minnie fault to get beaten up.
if a white man hit Minnie, and she referred to him as white male, would she have been seen as racist? that’s who he is moes. Use of adjectives should not be associated with racism, sexcism or in this case xenophobia. Its’s unfair of Hush to elude to Minnie been a xenophobic just because she referred to the man is foreign.
Whats the relevance of saying Minnie’s friends stayed behind and enjoyed the rest of the evening.
The tone of this statement is not apologetic at all, Minnie should still sue the a#$. Whether right or wrong, no woman deserves to be hit.

Lustagp – I would have respected them more if they apologised for what happened. Right now they might as well be condoning what happened. Fact is a woman was beaten up in their club. An apology would have suffice, not attack Minnie by accusing her xenophobia and been drunk. Kanti what do people go to clubs for?
why is Minnie presumed to be lying just because HUSH “the biusiness establishment trying to protect their reputation” said so? Why cant we accuse of HUSH lying? what evidence do they have to disporve Minnie’s theories? Fact remains, it happened in their CLUB. They should have just apologised and moved on.

To those referring to bribe incident.
Some dude from a radio station in KZN wanted a mention on live which equals to free advertising for his campaign. So apparently him and Minnie were negotiating t and c’s when the deal went south. Something about Minnie requesting a cough up fee upfront for her services on live.
Dude goes crazy – thought she was doing him a favour, says he will rather go through SABC live managment to which she responds negatively. Much like I suspect the way she handled the hush incident.
Bear with me as i’m glossing over the details.
So dude goes public about Minenhle requesting a bribe from him in order to mention his event on live- whereas it was not supposed to be so initially. I think he says she called him an idiot or something.
Sounds like a case of sour grapes from both parties. Obviously Minnie Minaj denies the allegations.
Did yall see, Sizwe from Live purchased a pizza franchise. Smart, dude is investing in fall back net.

Hayi mara guys, once alcahol namely vodka is involved, it becomes hard to prove or disprove claims.
I read a powerful book – A thousand splendid suns – I recommend it especially for women and …men.
One of the characters in the book says to her daughter – “the accusing finger of a man will always find a woman to blame”
Women will pretty much always bear the brunt of guilt in most circumstances.

There are three sides to every story, theres one side, there’s the other, and then there’s the truth. We can’t take Hush’s word as law, even at a court of law Hush wouldn’t win the case. They are just trying to save face. They know that Minnie is big, and they know she cn destroy them.

mamamia on Mon, 15th Aug 2011 4:01 pm
Wasn’t Minnie assaulted by the national? So how can Hush be held liable? Shouldn’t Minnie rather open a case of assault against the national at police station?
Then the national must sue Minnie for deragotory comments about them.
Then Hush must ban national for bringing disrepute to their image.
Then national must sue Hush for discrimination.
Then Minnie must sue Hush for not protecting her as they per their duty – since they have highly trained security professionals.
Shouldn’t Hush issue a statement of apology to Minnie minus sarcastic undertones?
Then Minnie must divorce her apparent friends who were more interested in fun than comforting her and taking her side!
Hush must ban all under 21′s from entry from now on.
Problem solved for all parties. lol!

As for the statement issued by Hush: that was low. Why mention names of International Acts that have been to the club? We all know how they (international acts) are treated better than our own stars.
As for Minnie’s friends: if they really stayed after their friend was assulted, then Minnie should really think about the ‘friends’ she has.

I’m glad she has supportive friends.I respect Uyanda even more right now. She’s the only personality voicing her opinions while the rest are keeping mum so they can get invites to the next event. nxah

Why are these Live! Presenters so loud? Do they have to open their mouths so much, like they’re screen munching?

1. It is very stupid of Hush to be even justifying the happenings, considering that they INVITED Minnie to come watch DJ Nasty’s performance means that they deliberately ignored their regulation(s) of not allowing under 23′s. (That can never be used against her even in the court of law)
2. Minnie being their ‘guest’ had all the rights to being safe & protected while within their parameters.
3. To those who are going on about how/why was she claiming ‘ownership’ of the table over the ‘national,I think that’s a ridic thing to be asking because its said that they left their belongings(bags, shoes etc),& that is usually a sign to show whoever thinks of using the table that its already occupied. It was disrespectuful of the national to go beyond that. It was disrespectufl of the bouncer to even attempt removing their stuff in favor of the national.
4. Hush is just trying to run away from responsibility & play the blame game.

“We welcomed Minnie and her friends to Hush and provided a VIP table and complimentary vodka – even though our VIP section was full of paying clients.” NOISE
Anyway…. I’m still confused as in what happened in this HUSH club & for my own sake I’m still happy I’m in Cape Town so no matter what drunk nonsense I get on with, the clubs I like seem to understand & save me from assault
PureMonate on Mon, 15th Aug 2011 11:12 pm
I believe Minnies’s story… bouncers are usually on stand by to make an example of someone. They assault first and if you’re lucky enough, ask questions later. Have seen it before especially @ varsity events (red jackets) and there’s no doubt in my mind about their violent capabilities!!!

What a shitty press release! This is a sorry excuse for a press release. Its one sided, subjective and sounds like it was compiled by a 10 year old who wants to be right. Hush please own up. Soooo not steppin my foot into a wrestling ring that calls itself a classy nightclub.
lamarOdom on Tue, 16th Aug 2011 2:02 am
Someone please tell Sgoloza to futsek, whatever beef s/he’s got with Minnie,we not interested.
I am not a sit down person because I don’t know what does it mean, but I think Sgoloza must SIT DOWN on this issue. Right now we dealing with real issues i.e Women abuse.

This Hush-Minnie fiasco is a hot mess!! too many versions of the truth…
MaBlerh on Tue, 16th Aug 2011 10:55 am
In my personal capacity: I now understand why women don’t report abuse in this country. They have to run to doctors and police stations. After all of that they have to stand on a public trial where they are scrutinised and called names by people who weren’t even there when the incident happened. I’m really disappointed that on Women’s Month, Hush and some people here on Just Curious would victimise a 21 year old girl when she is the victim here. It doesn’t matter what she said or did to those men, they had NO right to touch her. We see a lot of women falling victims to men who are animals at entertainment venues and we never hear of them opening cases because they are avoiding this. There is no “but” to this story. They should not have hit her! Period! As to my management company being reactive, we totally did not anticipate that Hush would go so low regarding this matter. It was a real curve ball to us. We did not think they would in turn victimise Minnie as we know Stephane. Guys, this is no different than saying to a rapist: “I’m sorry this happened to you BUT you should not have been there and you must have done something to entice the man that raped you.” Thanks all I have to say regarding this matter. Evil only prevails when good men to nothing.
DrDee on Tue, 16th Aug 2011 1:30 pm
As women’s month, let’s think of all those women who are in abusive relationships who are beaten regardless of circumstances. This month is dedicated to them. The rest of us women we must know that if we don’t have the physical abilities to go with our big mouths,we will get smacked.I learnt the hard way.I am not defending violent men here just imparting my 2 cents worth to fellow women.
