Info: Shake The World Campaign

August 8, 2011 by

On August 9, 2011, Rainbow Collection in partnership with Edgars, Africa!Ignite, SAfm, Trinergy Brand Connectors and Umuzi Photo Club will be launching the Shake the World Millennium bracelet campaign at the Eastgate Shopping Centre in Johannesburg.

The primary objective of this campaign is to raise social awareness on the 8 Millennium Development Goals set by the United Nations in 2000; whilst creating jobs for rural women crafters in Kwazulu Natal. The campaign also aims to ignite all South Africans, irrespective of their social standing, to become proactive agents of social change.

The Millennium Bracelets are handmade by Africa!Ignite’s network of women crafters and our goal is to sell one million of these fair trade bracelets through a variety of channels locally and internationally; such as companies, consumers, NGOs and other organisations.

The Millennium bracelet comes in bright colours, each corresponding to one of the eight Millennium Development Goals. The bracelets will be retailed at selected Edgars stores nationwide at R19.95 per bracelet and they will be available for consumers from Women’s Day, August 9, 2011.

By working with Africa Ignite and the female crafters, the Shake the World campaign not only raises awareness on the Millennium Development Goals, but also actively and directly contributes to three specific MDGs (1, 3 & 8).

Shake the World ambassadors include Orlando Pirates star midfielder, Daine Klate, Sabc Sport and SAfm sports anchor Kwena Moabelo, Supersport’s PSL News anchor, Sotho Lenkoe, SAfm’s AM Live anchor, Xolani Gwala, as well as motorsport sensation, Janine Mitchell; to mention but a few.

SAfm’s Morning Talk (09h00 – 12h00) and Afternoon Talk (14h00 – 16h00) will broadcast live from the venue. For more information on the campaign, please visit www.shaketheworld.org or www.rainbowcollection.nl
