Recap: I Want To Sing Gospel Episode 6

August 22, 2011 by

While everyone was watching the Sports Awards I kept it locked to SABC 2 for my favourite reality show at the moment.

Ok maybe I did so because ijob yi job but ke I couldn’t wait to see who goes home this week. Sizwe Zako and Sarah Thabethe were the guest judges and the theme was Hymns. Eyi Thabo Mdluli looks hot this season, bamgqokisa kahle ubhuti. Ok back to business, the contestants did duets again though judged individually.

Nhlakanipho Cele and Thando Makhaphela

They sang Akasoze angidele and the song worked well for Nhlakanipho’s voice. I’m not sure about Thando’s phalaza though but since the stylist knows better than me I will assume phalaza is back in fashion.

Lindelani was also impressed by Nhlakanipho’s delievery of the Sotho part of the song and as usual the other judges agreed with him.  Sarah is very beutiful though and she does look like Mzwandile may be an uncle soon or maybe it’s just the beauty.

Nozipho Phiri and Nqobile Ngidi

I think I’m also getting to see/hear what people are saying about Nqobile’s voice. Nqobile bhuti you cannot only rely on being Lindelani’s mkhaya. Hayike bekubethwa kwezakhe ubhuti on the tent music and he really enjoyed himself. But there was a lot of noise in their performance yho, I felt like I’m really in a tent revival. Lindelani did also pick up the “krasaring” on Nozipho’s voice and Sarah agreed. These judges may as well just say,”I agree with Lindelani” and not waste airtime repeating what Mkhize says.

Nontsikelelo Shandu and Mvuselelo Radebe

Oh Mvuselelo my Mvuselelo, God bless his beautiful voice. As usual Mvuselelo gave an amazing performance on both When Peace Like a River and Emnqamlezweni though I felt they could have chosen other songs, Mvuselelo’s voice deserves better, I blame Eva. Eish, I may have missed out on Ntsiki’s performance while busy focusing on Mvuselelo but can you blame me? Ntsiki sisi you can take off the beret now, I can only forgive a beret once. Like me Sarah “saw the heavens open” when Mvuselelo performed so I wasn’t biased after all.

Nombulelo Tshefu and Thabani Ncube

They sang intonga yam Zimi Ngonaphakade and I must say Thabani is my second favourite should anything happen to Mvuselelo. Nombulelo also sings very well and looked hot in that figure hugging dress. Lindelani said they are a “nice separate package on the competition” and Sarah said they were her best duet for the night. Hayi this year’s top ten can sing for real, it’s gonna be difficult to have just one favourite.

Sanelisiwe Mvelase and Malcom Manuel

They gave a nice rendition of the old hymn What a Friend We Have in JesOs and There is Power. Hayi nabo they made a lot of noise nje I felt like I was in those American churches. I think Sanelisiwe was generally loud in both the songs. Mkhize was impressed and said he loved the fact that they had fun with their performance and the other judges agreed.

Elimination Time

Nozipho, Nhlakanipho and Thando were up for elimination and as I had wished, Thando was the first to hang her microphone.

Nozipho followed suit, bathi ubhidwe yitent music bandla. I’m sure she already has a place in Joyous Celebration and she qualifies in every way. She really sang very well when it was contemporary music plus how was she supposed to outshine the king of tent music?

The voting continues and I will keep voting for Mvuselelo even if it’s just ngomlomo!

I finally tuned-in izolo – Yippie!!! I loved Nombulelo & Thabani, ohw my Nombulelo was soo composed and had such a beautiful tone, even when she was taking them high notes, she was very comfortable. Thabani’s voice complemented Nombu’s beautifully. I’m sure Nombu will take it shem!

Malcom le Sanelisiwe were good nabo, even though Sane was louder or maybe they were singing in the same voice which made it a bit difficult to hear Malcom.

Kwaaa kwaaa LamarOdom, mara o right, his opening was shaky, literally & figuratively! I actually wondered how he got to the Top 100 nevermind 8. I guess he’s needed for the comic relief, mara hauwwa he’s taking up space for pure talent.

I was disappointed to see Nozipho go, she has a strong voice, even though she was loud at times, i felt she could control her voice. Mcim, i’m sure someone will find her and polish her for some backing gig or something.

I loved the show, but was bored by the judges’ comments. Mkhize sounds like Peter de Villier’s brother, they have the same voice minus the accent.
Sarah umuhle, pregnancy suits her. Kusho aku dlalwi emshadweni neh.
