Introducing New Artist ‘Moneoa”
September 6, 2011 by Brown Shuga
With all the clutter that’s out there, it’s rare to get excited about new musicians who come out in SA and one of those rare moments hit me when I heard Moneoa‘s first single LIFE. I love these husky voices hle… not people abatswinayo (I don’t know what “tswina” is in English).
P.S. I’m not just saying this coz she’s managed by our own Toniice, the girl’s good!

Moneoa is a beautiful new kid on the block who hails from Durban and she’s got this beautiful, sultry and seductive voice, you know, one of those Metro FM Sunday voices? Yep! This 22 year old song bird is a professional dancer turned vocalist , a decision that was heavily inspired by family and friends who heard her sing in passing. She has proven to be a songwriter with an interesting take on telling stories and communicating her feelings and with the help of producer Vusi Ndlovu from Odeum Productions, those stories and feelings have given birth to potential chart toppers. Moneoa says that her target market is anyone that enjoys a good mix of beautiful vocals, good accompanying instruments and a world class production.

She names divas such as Jill Scott, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Lauryn Hill and Beyonce as her inspiration and if you enjoy bo Jill Scott then you’ll enjoy her singing too.
Her debut offer will hit the shelves in November. In the mean time, you can listen to her first single LIFE, which is available for free download on this link http://t.co./M4jmnof
Hope the rest of her songs will be just as good.

Biskiti on Tue, 6th Sep 2011 1:09 pm
Sorry offtopic kancane hle, I heard Zahara’s disk, and i loved it’s freshness, mara I have to say there are a couple of songs where she sounds like she sampled other artists’s work. there’s a song that’s on some “Man Down” tip, even one on some “Someone like you” tip…not hating or denying her talent, just stating the obviously
lorrelai on Tue, 6th Sep 2011 1:17 pm
I love it. I love its laidbackness. I often find that just before I go to bed, I want to listen to songs such as these. Goodluck to her, she’s very talented. She reminds of Erykah Badu, and yes, Jill Scott’s “This is the way.”
Don’t u wish that Zahara did the same (download)thing with Loliwe. The way I’d love to have that song in my bb, while I’m waiting to get her album that is.
KewlGal on Tue, 6th Sep 2011 1:21 pm
Huuu Fezzy, that Eda Rose gal is gonna be the death of me in this country.. my goodness! i stopped listening to Mo, becos of her. The other day last week i found myself listening to Y in the morning, and guess what? Eda says we should cut trees when doing our rituals instead of slaughtering animals.. i was outraged, even Mo told her that was not cool. Maaan this gal must just go back to London shem, who the hell does she thinks she is dissing our traditions like that, b’ecos yena she doesn’t hav culture. We dont need ppl like her on our radios seriously, ppl who undermine our culture they undermine us becos we are our culture period. Nxaa i hate that gal…(ok maybe that’s a strong word) but hay shame i’m not happy, i vowed that day i’ll never listen to Mo again, Y-fm lost me for their morning show shem.

Hmmmmm love love love it… That’s the song you want to listen to when you’ve just discovered that there’s a little LIFE growing inside of you..
Mapakisha on Tue, 6th Sep 2011 2:24 pm
Wow TheAngel, congrats girl:)
I love this song hle, she really sounds good. I was a little confused by the lyrics @ 1st cos it sounds a bit like she’s singing to/about a woman. Anywho, it’s a very nice song, i hope the rest of the album rocks as well.
Cya on Tue, 6th Sep 2011 2:55 pm
LOL @Biskiti the hater.
Biskiti on Tue, 6th Sep 2011 3:03 pm
Haowa Cya….ok, we’ll talk when you have listened to her entire cd and we’ll agree o tla bona…lol.
dejane on Tue, 6th Sep 2011 3:17 pm
@Biskiti when i heard Zahara i thought she sounded like some dude called Samthing Soweto, think he’s also part of the music group The Soil *i stand to be corrected* mara they have a similar sound.
TheAngel on Tue, 6th Sep 2011 3:37 pm
Thanks Mapakz
Pule on Tue, 6th Sep 2011 4:03 pm
i hope she is nowhere as weird as Erykah Badu.
RedVelvet on Tue, 6th Sep 2011 5:31 pm
Why is her one eyebrow thin and the other thick “shongololo”?
RedVelvet on Tue, 6th Sep 2011 5:39 pm
By the way, she sounds like she’s pulling a Lira to me.
RedVelvet on Tue, 6th Sep 2011 5:44 pm
And why is everyone on JC either pregnant, or working on getting pregnant if I may ask?
@theAngel, congratulations.
As for everyone else, use protection. I bet 95% of the bloggers aren’t even married
Ntajingah on Tue, 6th Sep 2011 6:40 pm
I hope the main reason she’s releasing an album is not because she’s pretty and can dance… #phumeza
let me download and listen
Ntajingah on Tue, 6th Sep 2011 7:01 pm
Wow! She’s great…
Nthoentle on Tue, 6th Sep 2011 11:02 pm
Kwa kwa kwa @RedVelvet only seeing it now, it looks wrong.
I can’t find the download button guys,help.
Congrats @theangel-children are a blessing

I was also thinking about Lira when I heard the song. I love love love and love it. She is good, I wish her well.
I love new talent. I can’t stand music that does not make sense, and lyrics that have no meaning or songs that sound like they where made in 2 seconds just because something had to be released. Like Khabonina’s song! I still can’t get over it smh!
Moneoa’s voice is also refreshing. *on repeat*
Bongani on Wed, 7th Sep 2011 9:22 am
she’s def the kind i like and collect. Beautiful song and well executed
Biskiti on Wed, 7th Sep 2011 11:03 am
DeJane kusho, Zahara wa sampola jong, ke Athur Mafokate wa Jazz/Afro-ntonton…lmao
Majesa TheUntouchable on Wed, 7th Sep 2011 11:55 am
Moneoa is perfact ‘ONLY’ for Deep House, failure to realise that will have negative results. Her reservoir of emotions is not large enough to sustein a whole Soulful track for 3 min. RNB is dead & should be avoided at all cost.

Majesa haaiwaane
“Tembisa’s own Einstein”

@redvelvet,we don’t need protection. We take a shower after the dance.

“I liked the producing, the executive producing and especially the co-producing. But the supervising producing is the best I ever heard”..LoL
Now let me listen to the song.

Moneoa’s delivery is very soulful, like “Tembisa’s Einstein” I feel that she’s shine if she partners w/ a deep / soulful house producer b/c.
Her voice is beautiful, but she must just tone down the influence of the artists she looks up to. I don’t want to listen to an artist and hear another Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Angie Stone. She must try carving her own approach and expression to soulful music or else she will be doing her talent a huge disservice.
My ratings of the song: 7 / 10
Advise regarding her musical approach: Work on your musical identity. Do you, express you, be you!!!

MissAN on Mon, 12th Sep 2011 2:35 pm
Its all this sex talk that happens on JC… but on the real we all adults and have a choice as how we conduct our lives,as long as no one is begging on the street with 3 babies you should not worry yourself too much @RedVelvet…
I will listen to her…
Zahara sounds a bit like Tracy Chapman and Joana Armatrading… Sbu is the JZ of SA… spots talent.
Lustagp on Mon, 12th Sep 2011 2:56 pm
nevr Missan…tracy chapman my foot, the gal is on her own dear!
MissAN on Mon, 12th Sep 2011 3:04 pm
@ Lungsta I am not denying her talent Thiza wam’ *BTW what the hell does it mean anyway* kancane nje… Ngoba umkhaya… I must listen to the rest of her songs, what is Loliwe anywaya? A train?
Lustagp on Mon, 12th Sep 2011 3:27 pm
ewe it a train dear, i must hook u up with some Xhosa boyfriend for you to learn the language maan!
MissAN on Mon, 12th Sep 2011 3:48 pm
@ Lustagp Nyani sana… Actually I have not dated umXhosa… But for now I am fine with Tswana… But I often hear that Xhosa folk do not like marrying each other,is it true? Too cunning for their liking *I am not trying to stir a Xhosa bashing debating* just asking.

Very thankful and highly appreciate all the lovely comments*
Will definately look into the suggestions:)
@redvelvet… The eyebrow is darker because of the lighting angle:)
@Mapakisha.. The song is about Life in general,The ups and down of it. I wrote about Life in the personification of a woman because women are the givers of life:)
