New Reality Show Calling For Entrants

September 5, 2011 by

This landed in our inbox so we thought we’d share with those of you who are keen:

We are looking for candidates to be on the show so this is also a drive to find groovy participants. Well, groovy personality-wise, but in a serious debt situation financially speaking! But we will get them out of it, that’s a promise.
Info:
In Debt is a docu-reality series that will probe the nation’s chronic debt problem by taking 10 individuals through a rigorous debt relief programme. Move over Supernanny, here comes the Debt Doctor! Each episode of this brand new format features a character with a desperate financial problem that threatens their future. The Debt Doctor gives them tasks to right their debt, from spending cuts to negotiating with creditors, and sometimes the methods are ruthless!
The series is scheduled for December on SABC1, at the time when South Africans traditionally splash out with their end of year bonuses. SABC1 is a channel that aims to connect with the nation through ‘authentic stories’ inspired by our world and this inspirational and at times shocking series promises to be all about ‘Living in Mzansi’. “We are proud to be making valuable contribution to a national debate on debt management and personal financial well being,” says Anton Burggraaf, Ochre Moving Picture’s Executive Producer of Entertainment Formats. We believe in providing Mzansi with shows that are entertaining and socially conscious.”

I would enter but manje nizongihleka…

I don’t want to see broke and dusty civilians. It would have been nice to see celebrities get to be the contestants b/c we all know how they spend and mismanage finances .

    (1) Jub Jub / Kelly Khumalo

    (2) Khanyi Mbau: o wele blind!!! When was the last time she made headlines about her notorious flings w/ these old wealthy businessman??? She was known as ‘The Queen Of Bling’. Even trying to ride on Mashobane’s(PTA king pin) dick!!! *SMH*

    (3) Bongani (Malaika)

    (4) Mzwakhe Mbuli

    (5) Jabu Pule / Mahlangu / ???

    (6) Benedict ‘Tso’ Vilakazi

    (7) DJ Sbu: (there was a point when he couldn’t even pay a Pretoria based DJ royalties / Cars were apparently repossessed / record company wasn’t doing well)

    (8) Some other soccer legend who used to own a house in the Northern ‘Burbs before he moved back to his mothers backyard zozo in the West Rand w/ his 20 something year old squeeze.

    (9) Lundi: Perfect example of what drugs can do to a sterling career.

    (10) Brown Dash and his former TS crew *SMH*

This reminds me of this other show on BBC Lifestyle about people who overspend. They’re given a psychologist and debt manager and they help them figure out how they got there and how they can now get out. They also heelp them budget and alot of them struggle. I forgot the name of the show… Can somebody please remind me???!!

  7. Cleo04patra on Tue, 6th Sep 2011 6:58 am

Yes! The show’s name is Spendaholics… If this is anything like it, then we’re in for a treat!

Um Lela.. You’re not debt free.. A house and a car are also considered debt, the only good debt being the house.. if ure paying off something- its a debt.. Call them.. *hides*

This sounds like a good initiative, probably right for those who live their lives like celebs, forgetting that those celebs each word they say is somehow a kind of cash coming to their table. I would love to watch this show.

nna I have spent my salary in terms of debt up to the year 2021,I refuse to do without cause of debt, if anyone is dumb enough to give my ill- disciplined behind a credit card, then they must not cry foul when the repayments are not forthcoming!

Last year in december I spend 36 grand in six days…

I went to the woolies sale recently & I bought pairs of boots for my two year old that she will only problably wear when she is six ( I always end up giving new clothes away yazhi) EISH!
