Bokke Out, Bafana Embarassed
October 10, 2011 by Brown Shuga
Bad Bad weekend for South African sport.
The Springboks got kicked out of the 2011 Rugby World Cup and Bafana Bafana did not qualify for the African Cup Of Nations 2012.
It’s a mess. More especially because Pitso and his boys thought we only needed a draw to make it through if Egypt won, only for CAF to announce that NIGER go through to AFCON, and not us.
SAFA has since lodged a complaint questioning why Goal Difference wasn’t used to determine the winner. The letter states:
“We have noted that CAF has announced that Niger has qualified in our group, despite South Africa finishing on top of the group in terms of goal difference, which is the universally recognised means of separating teams who are equal on points. We understand that you are using rule 14.1 to make your determination. However, we believe that the team finishing top of the log at the end of the competition is automatically determined at the end of 90 minutes play, and that the second place is determined by the other rules. We will lay out our objection more fully shortly, but in the meantime wish to signal that we intend to challenge this interpretation and application of the rules.”
SAFA President Kirsten Nematandani addressed the embarassed Bafana Bafana players after their celebrations and told them:
“Do not despair, all is not lost. We believe we have a case and we will carry this fight all the way. If CAF’s rules are ambiguous then we need to challenge that and we are well within our rights to do so. In the meantime be positive, and leave everything in our hands.”
He sounds very positive and I hope he’s not just raising false hopes. If they do manage to get into the tournament, Bafana Bafana will have to perform EXTRA hard and make this drama worth something!
Hard luck to the Bokke, they did us proud and I’m really sorry to see Coach De Villiers leave.

Don’t know much about soccer.
Poor P Divvy(Peter DeVilliers), shem that man always looks sooo stressed, his eyes always look red. Shem ke sono. The boys missed a lot of opportunities today and made stupid mistakes.

lwandie on Mon, 10th Oct 2011 2:52 am
Sad for Boks, but not entirely shocked, their standard this year was far less superior to that of Boks: 2007 Rugby World Cup.
Eulane on Mon, 10th Oct 2011 6:14 am
Bafunny ba phaphile ka satty, lastag! As 4 da bokks, hats off 2 thm. They make me proud
Tebatjo on Mon, 10th Oct 2011 6:56 am
Watching the Boks game was heart breaking hey!! Like you could see the disappointment and sadness on their faces!! But they did their best!!
As for Bafana, eish, that was heartbreaking!! I really hope this issue gets resolved soon!!

Eish,KARMA le yona! This has de unpaid sangoma written over it,LMAO
Sarafina on Mon, 10th Oct 2011 6:59 am
A terrible sporting weekend, Bafana eish the need Jesus. I won’t say much coz I am just so mad for celebrating like a idiot at Mbombela for nothing. Well done to the boks they did good, at least Pdiv can sleep again. So does that mean black South African coaches are clueless?
lolington kwaaa on Mon, 10th Oct 2011 7:06 am
The way white people (boers) are soooo happy over the springbok’s coach resignation…#SMH, was reading news24, the comments are just sad.
As for BBafana, ay asazi. I think they r better out of the cup ngoba chances are bazosihlaza vele!
fabulicious on Mon, 10th Oct 2011 8:14 am
True that @lolington about bafana bafana.
Egypt did wat it had to do n beat Niger and bona they failed to win. I’m glad things happened this way coz now they’d be saying ”if only…”.
Khune’s stunt at the end mus be the moemish of the year, what an embarrasment!
Eish on the bokke, I bought the jersey a week ago R599 wonke down the drain *bbm angry*
mbulela on Mon, 10th Oct 2011 9:15 am
CAF released that rule a while back.
so how come no one in SAFA had the patience to read it and understand its import? Was it a lack of English language comprehension amongst the entire staff of SAFA?
Why is ineptitude the order of the day in leadership across our country?
They should stop embarrassing themselves with these press releases.
By the way,why would a coach play for a draw at home even if he needed a draw to qualify?what an insane mindset!
fancyface on Mon, 10th Oct 2011 9:16 am
Eish mina I’m actualy glad bb didn’t go through caz they ALWAYS want other teams to play for them, when they heard that egypt was winning, they didn’t strike for winning, knowing that the draw will put them through!that’s always the case with them bafanas they always depend on other games results mxm
Zams on Mon, 10th Oct 2011 9:28 am
What ??? I though we qualified …..after the boys celebrated like that OMG ! And Khune was just a joke he got me laughing like crazy when he pretended to be hurt kanti he’s buying time lmao . For nothing !!!!!
The Boks tried their best it was not an easy game ……….
Lustagp on Mon, 10th Oct 2011 9:39 am
Lol….Bafana-Bafana must pay the R800 grand they owe their sangoma otherwise, theri future is going to embarrassing form now on….hahahahahhahahahah
Bokke fought until the end shame!
DrDee on Mon, 10th Oct 2011 9:50 am
As if I wasn’t hurting enough already, these people here had to toture me by sending me msgs jeering at me as if I am the Head Coach of both teams.
kakapana on Mon, 10th Oct 2011 9:56 am
My friend and I were laughing our asses off as the boys were celebrating because we were well aware of that craxy CAF rule.
serves them right, especially Khune and his tiem wasting tactics.
I mean we just needed one goal, we had ample changes to put one in the net, but no, as soon as we heard that Egypt were winning we just rested on our laurels.
Pitso and Nematandane knew ukuba we hadnt qualified because during the post match interview they kept on double-checking with Marks who reassured him that we had.
Mathaz on Mon, 10th Oct 2011 9:57 am
What happened to Bafana sums up what our country is about…we lot do not read and we don’t have enough researchers. I know some will say there is the technical team to know about this rule but why all of us, could not identify that rule beats me? The other thing is that Pitso went into that game defending, not caring and failed to plead with the guys for one goal. We are so content with draws even in our league. SAFA must just do a hunt-search for the next best thing, strikers that is.
kakapana on Mon, 10th Oct 2011 10:04 am
And nje this thing of us lodging a complaint with CAF, life WTH??? rules are rules nje, as absurd as this one may be.
Why didnt they dispute this ridiculous rule when it was first introduced, why are they only throwing their toys out of the cot when it works against them.
They must stop crasping at straws and accept their fate.
kakapana on Mon, 10th Oct 2011 10:07 am
And i-Bafana iyona ethelele ama Boks amabhadi, busy doing the “one two one two” bokke dance after the “victory”. kwaaaaa!!!! this is actually funny yazi, but than again I’ve got a misplaced sense of humour.
kakapana on Mon, 10th Oct 2011 10:51 am
And now Jake White Bok coach job back.

BGT on Mon, 10th Oct 2011 2:45 pm
At least the Boks went out fighting and not because their board and coaching staff can’t f***ing read!
Eish! And the way Bafana celebrated! Tjo!
MissAN on Mon, 10th Oct 2011 3:04 pm
LOL @ Kakapana… Tutu really prayed hard… But I agree with bloggers that say SAn have itendency of burying their heads in the sand when they ought to be well informed about rules,laws,etc.. Better luck next time…#paysangomaorelse

Thank goodness I didn’t celebrate yonke lendaba yabo I just find it very funny. Kwaaaaaaaaaaaahaaaaa.
LesDaChef on Mon, 10th Oct 2011 3:22 pm
We lost the rugby cause of a useless ref. I know complaining about a ref after a game is a bit sour but this time it was 100% true. The Boks made out-played the Aussies in every facet of the game but I guess the Aussies were too smart for us as they’d worked out the stupidity of the ref. So many infringements at the ruck, so many offences like armless tackles and interfering. Argh! If we’d been beaten by the better team on the day I would be fine with it.
With regards to Bafana the blame lies squarely on the shoulders of SAFA. Simply “assuming” that every league or log-type setup has the same goal difference criteria is plain stupid…especially considering Nigeria lost out on qualifying for the 2010 FIFA world cup because of the same rule. Going to court about it won’t change the fact that the rule is clearly stated in black and white.
What everyone is forgetting is we might have a 3rd tragedy coming in the next few weeks. Australia is in town for the cricket and Standard Bank has pulled their sponsorship of the Protea’s and Cricket SA has yet to find a new sponsor because no one wants to touch them due to all their corporate drama…plus we have a new captain and new coaching team…against one of the best teams in the world.
Ayeye

Yho! @Esteer i was also surprised gore what the heck are they celebrating for???! i even tweeted about it that they gave a K@k perfomance!!! But then this whole thing is embarrassing shame,i guess after this they will learn not to celebrate goal-less draws…..As for Khune yena pulling that time delaying stunt, i was disgusted!!!
Sorry Bokke, bona they tried their best shame
BGT on Mon, 10th Oct 2011 3:44 pm
Yup I agree 100%. Even if Bafana did progress into the African Cup Of Nations that was NOT a performance to dance about. I was like do these guys have no shame?! Eish, I guess they do now…
LadyM on Mon, 10th Oct 2011 3:52 pm
what a bad weekend!!
As much as I am sad, both teams have themselves to blame.
How can Pitso play for a draw at home vele?! MXM! Whether or not Egypt was winnig, Bafana knew that they HAD TO beat Sierra Leone. But no, they squander all chances, and then Pitso flipping makes crazy subs. We needed a striker, he puts in Letsholonyane. Dont get me wrong, I like Yeye mara u remove Parker, u put in another strike. Oh and deathby Khune’s timewasting antics. He needs to grow up shem. Im a Chiefs fan, mara some things we cant condone
LadyM on Mon, 10th Oct 2011 3:57 pm
2nd, the Boks. *smh* They didnt capitalize on their possession. I mean Schalk Burger had an opportunity to score a try and he was less than a metre from the touchline, next thing u know Aussies have the ball. how? No wonder they felt like crap after O’Connor slotted in the winning penalty kick for the Wallabies. And then referree wa gona le yena was just reving kak. mxm.
The last time i felt this heartbroken was when the Proteas lost to NZ @ the world cup. *sigh*

If I was working for SAFA I’d suggest they must’nt bother to fight for this. when was the last time Bafana won a game not even a friendly match? *thinking* oh I can’t remember. They must let it go, let’s say they win “this case” but oviaaasly they’ll be the 1st to be eliminated from the tournament like they did in the world cup, now that will be a BIG embarassment.
As for the Springboks *crying* I just saw Brian Habana on that Protex ad.on tv…waht a painful reminder.
kakapana on Mon, 10th Oct 2011 4:35 pm
They (Safa) cant win, they wont win, as they dont have a case.
