Foschini Group Buys Fabiani
October 5, 2011 by Brown Shuga
Not sure if this something that will be of interest but I just found out that The Foschini Group just bought luxury menswear brand Fabiani. Fabiani, which sells suits, casual clothing, shoes and fashion accessories will now operate as a division of Markham.

I was chatting to musician, Tumelo Ruele about his appointment as a Markham ambassador last week, and I think he’s one of those people excited by this news.
Fabiani only had 7 outlets, this move will definitely make their stuff more accessible to those who like their clothes.

Brand suicidal right there.Fabiana was for the selected target market and now moves to mass brand. Sad
Russian_Duchess on Thu, 6th Oct 2011 8:13 am
WHY? WHY? WHY?
CraziBeautiful on Thu, 6th Oct 2011 8:51 am
Boggie luv, its not brand suicidal, coz it won’t be intergrated with the Markham brand but it will trade as a division of Markham…the Fabiani brand will still stand on its own. There’s no way Markham and Fabiani can be intergrated together coz the cater for different target markets.

@BS – did you mean “these news” instead of “this news”? Anyway, I hope they have bigger sizes, would love to make over my “big guy”…LOL!
J-Girl on Thu, 6th Oct 2011 9:48 am
@CraziBeautiful, I hear you just the association nje, I think its prolonged suicide but I guess on the other hand Fabiani wouldnt just do that because they also have a brand to guard so maybe those in the know will hold a different opinion hence the move but still!
boogie on Thu, 6th Oct 2011 9:51 am
CraziBeautiful dear, I hope so. I think from the business deal point it’s a good move for Fabiana but brand association might be a bit of challenge.Who of a top end target markets walks in Markhams stores?? or associate themselves with Markhams. Remember Stone Cherrie & Stuttafords?.
Fabiana should have move into Stuttafords stores, there’s many brands on the same level

When will this happen? I’m getting married next month…
manny on Thu, 6th Oct 2011 10:35 am
nice atleast we can walk into markham and get out with a killer suit….
CraziBeautiful on Thu, 6th Oct 2011 10:45 am
Wll J-Girl, Fabiani Management will still be part of the venture even though its complete buy out, they will still be Managing the brand…TFG will not take over but this will simply be a Trading Division within Markham, because even though Fabiani is a well known and luxury brand, they dont make as much turnover as Markham. The Fabiani brand will not in any way be compromised.
CraziBeautiful on Thu, 6th Oct 2011 10:51 am
Manny, there wont be any Fabiani machandise in Markham stores and vice versa…the two Stores will remain independant.
Biskiti on Thu, 6th Oct 2011 11:11 am
Carducci was well-intergrated into the Markham stores, so i don’t see why this is considered brand-suicide. I think they’ll have more coverage than with their previous 7 stores and even get more sales because those that couldn’t afford Fabiani can now pay for the clothes over 6 or 12 months.
Good luck to Markham! Looking forward to the affordable designer clothes.
Zida on Thu, 6th Oct 2011 11:19 am
I agree @boogie. I doubt my sponsor will buy their stuff anymore. *yawn*
J-Girl on Thu, 6th Oct 2011 11:24 am
makes sense kinda like the Lifestyle Living and Lewis ok!
Biskiti on Thu, 6th Oct 2011 11:25 am
CrazyBeau, that’s terrible!…so no more designers suit opportunities? But it doesn’t make sense then ka taba tsa coverage if they will still only sell at their 7 stores, i still think Fabiani will move some things to Markham, just as it happened with Carducci…
Manny, waitse i was on that tip that you are on…lol. Howzit buddy? Not even YDE suits are nice anymore, and i’m not talking at the R90 sale, but if you are to go now, haayi kunzima on the men’s clothing department.
CraziBeautiful on Thu, 6th Oct 2011 11:31 am
Biskiti, i happen to work for one of these companies. so trust me when i say there wont be any Fabiani merchandise in Markham stores, i mean you cannot have suits worth R7000 and ones worth R900 in one store…it doesnt make good business sense.
CraziBeautiful on Thu, 6th Oct 2011 11:34 am
Biskiti…one good things thats gonna happen for Fabiani, is that more stores will be opened throught the country and maybe some Southern African countries in the near future..
