I Simply Can’t Deal

Over the years I have realised that I have a very low tolerance for gullible people and idiots in general. There are two things that are the favourite among these people and I will address them without fear. It is the issue of broadcast messages on Blackberry Messenger (BBM) and chain emails.

I may not be an arch bishop or have any high clerical position in the church but I believe that I know, by now, how God functions. Okay, even if I don’t fully understand how he function but one thing for sure; he does not bless people via chain emails. At my church, every time before offering, the person giving the word would always thumb suck a story about some woman who gave their last R100 and got a call the next day from Absa saying that the bond has been paid up. It used to crack me up as people jumped up and shouted “AMEN”. Over the years this lie has moved to emails. Sadly people are gullible enough to forward them. Some forward them because they don’t want to test fate.

Now this problem has moved to BBM, people actually believe that Research In Motion (RIM) – the company that manufactures Blackberry, would actually send out communication via broadcast messages. On Monday, 10 October, all Blackberry’s stopped working at 11am because of a server crash. The next day we all woke up spammed by broadcast messages about RIM conducting a census because their server crashed and they need to know who is still active. So, if you forwarded the spam, RIM would automatically see that you are still an active BBM user.

What I want to know is, how gullible do you have to be to believe this nonsense and actually forward it. What scares me even more is that it is my educated peers that also forward this nonsense. I used to work at the head office of one of the biggest corporates in the work. On my floor, it was all people with university degrees and they would still forward this nonsense. On BBM, I have lawyers, risk analysts, doctors and other varsity graduates who were gullible enough to pass on the “message from RIM”. One thing my favourite professor at varsity drummed into my head is that the sole purpose of tertiary institutions is to equip you with the ability to THINK and analyse. If our graduates still forward “pass this to 10 people and receive your blessing in 24 hours ” chain emails and “if you don’t pass this on, your blackberry will stop working” messages; then education is clearly failing my people.

I honestly do not get why people think they have to do something in order to gain favour with God? Why would God want you to forward an email to 7 people or be risk having something bad happen in your life? When I see such email I delete…Together with those that promise you to win something or some sick child in need of an operation…

Indaba yamatithes,unfortunately some pastors are just playing on peoples’ materialistic emotions,tithing is in the bible and God say a 10th of your harvest,be it time,money,etc and most churches want to focus TOO much on the financial aspect…Tithing does work IF you believe it works and you give with an open heart,and I don’t think God expects us to give only to the church even donating to childrens’homes,needy relatives,etc can be a tithe…If you do not read the bible and rely on a mere mortal,mfundisi who bleeds like you do,then uzodlalwa abazalwane…I respect pastors BUT I always have that thing that they just human like me and I do not have to believe everything they say but have to refer to the word and use my own judgement…

Education does not equal to common sense… Always ask WHY…

People like to take chances, having a degree in marketing *example* will not grant one a successful selling of a product without using a common sense.
The way I see academic education, is like a teacher, everybody can go to a teacher’s college for training, but not everyone will come out a good teacher, because teaching is the ability/skill to pass knowledge to others.

I generally find group “forwards” of all sorts annoying and classify it as spam..(Unless its really really fresh and witty humour)

Anything that holds ransom to any part of me,whether its an emotional guilt trip about conditional blessings in a chain mail…a sob story that ends with an appeal for money instantly makes its way to my spam folder.

Another group of mail I loath is the “fear factor” one…telling me how drinking Coke will bleach my insides….how product X causes disease Y etc etc. Thankfully my email/facey/BBM contacts generally don’t circulate that kind of stuff tjo.

Nna ena all my friends know that i dont want this chain emails with emotinal blackmail of sorts. i have told them and every new person on my mailing list, i tell them as asoon as they start. Cannot stand them. Same goes for BBM and Whatsapp chain thingamawhatwhats

I have a colleague that does this all day everyday, sometimes I think she’s trying to get me back for something I did to her in my past life. My ex did it as well, forwarded every little dull joke, helpachild, god will bless you in 5mins, etc(after we broke up of course), till I told him to efin stop. Now his best friend does it*sigh*, I don’t wanna be rude to him since I don’t got beef with him but gosh!! & we don’t even know each other that well, he never e-mails to just say hi or wasup or whatever. He jus sends these e-mails about God punishing us if we don’t forward it. My solution is to just forward it back to him, I hope he gets the message or his friend(x) brings him up to speed. No BB here!

Its so funny how you brag about having educated people on your contacts list as if that somehow raises you up a level and their education makes you a better person for associating with them. Sorry if I sound a little personal, but I don’t like class snobs…

@TheSushiQueen it is not that people with degrees are of another species or better than everyone else but I think the point MaBlerh is trying to make is that, due to the fact that they have gone through the years of exercise in analytical & critical thinking one would expect better of them. I doubt it was bragging other than raising a point.

Thank God i don’t use a BB and never will unless i have a sales job that entails being taking my office away with me while on the move.
I have an automatic filter for those chain mails and they go straight to my spam and get deleted automatically.Those that make it to my box i delete without even reading the second line.
As a rule i never do group forwards.They lack a personal touch and i find them insulting.

Gosh,vele..Sure God does want us to do the right things and I suppose it makes him happy and he delights in the good we do but I honestly do not believe we have to do anything at all to be loved by Him…I mean I always thing God looooooves babies and toddlers,they don’t do any good at that age but God looooves them…People need to read their bibles.

when it comes to the forwarded emails..i always forward emails that i think would be funny or interesting to the recipient. mara as soon as the emails tell me to forward them to other people so that i can get my blessings..ngivele nje ngiyi delete same time.

my friends also know very well- after i snapped early last yr, that they dnt forward me those “if u dnt forward x ppl in the next x min something bad will happen” or vice-versa ” if u forwrd something good will happen”. but the worst, being the christian i tend to consider myself as, is the ” the bible says if u deny Jesus he will deny u to God” one (or something like that). tjerrrr! ya ngduba eo!

That’s how I saw this as well. I just received one from a colleague this morning….and I just pressed delete. I loathe chain mails and purple messages. Not sure how people believe in such things.

It is plain stupidity.
How was God blessing people before BB and emails came along?
This has nothing to do with education,it is just about people being irritants, stupid and spammers.
It may be more puzzling when you see educated folks who you expect to apply their mind to such trivial issues a little better.

I only read personal e-mails and kindly sent my friends a request not to send me chain mails, i can’t stand them…

We do not need to do right to be loved by God because we are the righteousness of him, we are in right standing with him. He loves us regardless of the many sins that we commit daily. I am one of those who believe in tithe, i have tithed most of my life and even go beyond the 10%. It has worked for me in the past but my unsaved husband found out about it and he put a stop to it. Last month i did not tithe and my heart aches, i can’t live my life without tithing. I don’t do it because i want God’s blessings but out of reverence for him i tithe. I also tithe coz i believe that everything i have is because of him and coz of that, he has blessed me immensely.

@MissAN….I have not had the courage to leave him as yet. I have done a lot of research about what to do in my situation and most sites that i have visited said since he is the head of the family, i must obey him and that God sees my heart and he knows the position that i am in. When they say that do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, believe it and take it to heart. It is just problematic coz i am saved and he is not and the marital problems are just endless, i guess i just have to continue praying for him.

@mathaz, i concur the advice you got from those sites.
Keep praying for him and God will come through for you.
Try and see if you can give God a smaller portion of your income (less than 10%).something that he will not easily note.
I also appreciate your idea of tithing.
My view is that tithe is an act of worship in acknowledging God as the source of your increase.
It is not some legalistic duty that if you refuse fail God will strike you dead like some pastors tend to potray.
Since i came to acknowledge it as an act of worship,i feel so at ease tithing.If God keeps me alive,grants me good health and even the wisdom to earn an income,acknowledging him with a portion of the income only makes sense.Sticking to a particular % creates discipline and 10% is an often used % in the bible.

WOW, you are one of the few, I have always wanted to hear someone say that about tithe,because I do the same…I give to relatives ,even more than 10% sometimes…and according to the MmaMuruti’s(holier than thou’s)around me I should always give it to the church and let my relatives starve ….they don’t say it directly but that is what is mean he bare ‘ No my friend, you must always tithe, God will sort out your relatives’. @ Miranda… I really feel tithing should not even be restricted to church,a long long long time ago when I used ot work,I would give 5% to church and 5% to a childrens home…

I don’t compose religious chain emails but if I get one, then rest assured that I will forward!

Me forwarding the emails is not an indication of my gullibility or low IQ, I send them cause I’m am Christian & I lose nothing from clicking my mouse & forwading.

There is a huge difference between logic & belief, Metaphysics are not bound by the same rules as science, mna I send the messages cause I’m a believer,I don’t necessarily forward to get the miraculous blessing, and I don’t forward cause I’m scared, but I forwad cause God works in mysterious ways, I might not be the intended recipient of the favour but I believe in Gods bigger plan… Have you ever heard the saying, God works in mysterious ways, I believe that so I just press send.

I’m no theologian but I know that in the past God has set tests for his believers, he once asked a father to sacrifice the life of a son to test belief/faith…The father because he was a true believer in God did not rationalise & say no It can’t be God who who ask me to kill my son, but he lay his son down and was prepared to offer his life to please God.

Unless there was an amendment to the bible , I believe ukuthi that same God who asked the father to sacrifice the life of the son is still that same God today,we all know that, the son was ultimatetely not sacrificed cause God, pleased to see the faith demonstrated by his believer , gave an animal to be sacrifised instead.

I know some will say that is old testament, God does not do that anymore, but the Ten Commandments are also Old testament does that mean the are null and void, Really how Christian are you if you can’t even press send to show your faith, instead you choose to rationalise, get all logical, say things like God would not test me like that… how sure are you about that ?

God is beyond time, he uses the latest tools, don’t think he does not know about your World Wide Web.So you refuse to press send but expect him to grant you absolution for all your sins & give you everlasting life… really???

Whatever it means @Lolo, it doesnt mean that a human being, can type an email and tell you what to do, or the number of people to send to in order to get your blessings.

My question is, the person, who sat down and typed that email, where did s/he get what they talking about? Did they perhaps dream about this, a vision maybe, or is it written somewhere in the Bible that maybe i havent seen the verse yet, that if i forward that email I will see someone special in so and so minutes.

As much as I didnt want to touch the Bible, i just had to because i dont need a person to make me feel quilty about chain emails, and tell me that i am shy to speak of my God in public.

PS: I used to forward these emails back in varsity just because they made me feel quilty. But now i know the God i serve will love me even when i dont forward those emails.

Chain messages, I hate them, I delete them. & that doesn’t make me less of a Christian. Since when do we dictate to God how and when to bless us? I mean really, 5 mins for a miracle? He is able, but since when do we test Him like that? there are many ways to act out our faith, to evangelize to worship, we don’t have to forward those long, yes manipulative messages. If one believes that forwarding them will bring some kind of miracle, well then each to nton nton, but I choose other ways of displaying my faith in God, He has done many miracles for me, but certainly not because I clicked ‘send’ or I will have a seizure.

What I’m debating is the notion that those who do pass on religious emails are gullible idioys, What I’m debating is the assertion that most of you make that God would NEVER use the internet in general for sending his word & chain mails in specific.

My question is, I thought Jesus left the instruction for Christians to spread the gospel, he was not really that specific about the method he wants used, to spread the word, I really question those who feel , no scrap that, I think the word that most used is KNOW,

Okay I really question those who KNOW, that God would never use the internet, my question is why not, why would God not use the internet, The world wide web is the most effective method of spreading information the world has ever seen, It is the most effective communication tool EVER why would God not use the web, tell me that?

And again I don’t wanna come across as some sanctimonious, holier than thou, know it all , cause trust & believe that I’m not holy, I not even a good Christian, but on the off chance that an email I forward will help someone , somewhere in the world I DO FORWARD!

It seems that most people have a pre – programmed, pre-conceived notion of what form their salvation will come in, it seems most know that it will never come in the form of a forward, therefore ya’ll MARK AS SPAM & DELETE, look I’m not suggesting that you forward, that is entirely up to you, what i took offence to was being called, by Mablerh a gullible idiot ohlule imfundo by forwarding.

THE LORD WORKS IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS…

I occasionaly hang out with all sort of people, muslim, jews, aethyist (sp). Muslims for instance close their businesses when it come s time for them to pray to ALLAH so in the middle of the day, friday (I think) they conduct no business, lose that income for thir God, yet some Christians will not even press send to forward a religious email, yet we all send rude jokes(I also do this some are hillarious, did you hear the one about…

WAIT I DIGRESS…my point is I send, & I’m not an idiot , I’m sometimes gullible though…I forward cause I’m not dismissive of the word of God, in whatever way it manifests, I do not do it for the miracle promised, cause maybe I’m not the intended recipient of the miracle, I do it cause I have FAITH. Of course there is no way to put what I’m saying in a test tube & scientificaly prove my faith, but my faith is there.

Some said they do not believe in a manipulative God,so I looked up the word manipulate, I’ Xhosa so sometimes isilingu asivuki… so manipulate _ DEFINITION My oxford dictinary says the word manipulate is a verb, It means to handle or control with dexterity or to contoll and influence cleverlyor uncrupulously.

One of the Christian premises says, accept me as your Lord and savour or perish, DIE like forver, Is that not manipulation???

So I don’t know mna, kodwa my favourite part of the ew testament is the bit where a woman who had been bleeding for a long time touched the hem of Jesus’s gown and because she believed that this one act would heal her, she was healed,she stopped bleeding ya’ll, That is AWESOME, I like that kind of faith, I’m sure if she ad said to her girlfriends

” listen ya’ll this haemorragin’ be gettin on my last nerve, so when this fly cat Jesus walks by & I’ll touch his hem then I will be A OKAY as good as new” I’m sure that her logical friends would have said girrrl, you done bled for too long, you is stupid, he needs to touch you to get healing, that shit don’t work like that… But they were wrong , that shit worked the way her faith dictated.

I wish everyone health , wealth & hapiness in Jesus’s name AMEN.

I’m not sure why I’m writing this ,but I once read a piece where a land was under the scourge of a horrible disease,the epidemic affected the young, killed them in their prime, made little children motherless, so the christian community prayed & close to 30 years down the line there was still no healing, they began to doubt their God, labelled him incompetent, uncaring, Questioned his sense, He then told them you see, I did send someone to heal AIDS, I sent then in year one of the disease, he was to be born of a young mother, but because the timing of the pregnancy was inconvinient fo the mother she ABORTED,, they all fell silent!
