I met up with Nomasonto “Mshoza” Mnisi for a quick interview when I heard that she was at Urban Brew for a RGB interview. I must admit that I was extremely nervous as I did not know what to expect especially after reading all the mess on the newspapers. I was really surprised with what I met. The situation is not as bad as the papers have reported. She is just lighter in complexion, that’s all. It was actually a pleasant interview. Please read.

Blerh: hey Nomasonto, tell us about the girl we have come to know as Mshoza?
Mshoza: Umshoza? Not the one now?
B: Is there another girl now?
M: Yes, a more mature and business minded woman. A married woman. Not that girl that wore all-stars all day and was excited to be in this industry.
B: who do you give credit to for being Mshoza?
M: UThixo usomandla. My family. My fans. Nimrode Nkosi and Oscar Mlangeni.
B: So, you were discovered by Oscar and Nimrod?
M: Yes, on Jam Alley in 1997 and Loyiso Bala was the judge.
B: Tell me the inspiration behind Kortes, your first hit?
M: To be quite honest, I walked in and Pastor Bonsai had this beat for me. I just started singing and they liked what I was doing. I wasn’t even dating then so I don’t know where it came from.
B: For a while I thought you were lesbian, I’m shocked at this man-loving girly girl that I’m sitting with.
M: I was just waiting for the right man. I was just protecting myself with a facade. It also didn’t help that all my role models are male.
B: So, honestly how was it being a girl in the kwaito industry? A young girl at that.
M: At the time, I was the only female kwaito artist. At first it was nice but it was hard for me business wise as I had to play hard ball with the guys. I was just lucky to be protected by Nimrod and Oscar from the vultures. I had soccer players parking outside my house daily wanting me. It was rough and exciting.
B: Okay enough with the pleasantries, let go into what has landed you on the news lately. Let’s start with you burning money. What was up with that?
M: I did not burn money. LOL. A friend of mine actually did it. He wanted to show me the “evil signs” on money if you burn it. It was a R10 note. He is silly. People took offence to that and I apologise. I should know better than to joke around cameras.
B: Oh okay cool. Now explain the scandal with your husband apparently walking in on you with boys at some B&B?
M: LOL! Such nonsense. We were at some guest house meeting facilities discussing business with some guys that my husband doesn’t approve of me doing business with. My husband found out that I was there and he was pissed off. He arrived at the venue super upset, I thought he was gonna kill someone and to protect the guys I was with, I asked reception to call the cops to make sure nobody gets hurts. I’m sure he believed that I was cheating on him due to how I hid that I was meeting these guys. When he finally got in with the cops they saw the laptops and food that we had ordered. In hindsight, it is a funny story.
B: Oh wow, how dramatic! LOL! So, let’s talk about the plastic surgery. What have you done?
M: Breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, liposuction and dental surgery.
B: Wow, what issues did you have with your breasts, nose and teeth?
M: Not serious issues, I just wanted bigger breasts. The lipo was originally booked for Akhumzi and he didn’t show up for his appointed and I decided to just do it. I am joking, it was after my son and I looked like a balloon. My nose was as flat as Fana Mokeona’s and I wanted a sharper nose.
B: LOL! Oh wooooooow! Now let’s talk about the skin bleaching. What inspired that?
M: Look, I’ve been Black for 30 years and I just wanted to see what it is like being White for a few years. LOL.
B: LOL. No man, I’m serious.
M: It is just something that I wanted to do. It has nothing to do with my esteem and issues with being Black. It’s just sad that people with weaves and all other cosmetic enhancements to make themselves look western are on high horses judging me. I just wanted a lighter skin. Our parents have been burning themselves with skin lightening creams for decades. It was never made an issue about self-esteem and race. People must calm down.
B: Hahahahahah! Yes, our aunts are now burnt with red cheeks. No need for blush. Thanks Movate. So, how is your relationship with your husband? Did he have any influence in all these cutting decisions?
M: We have a healthy relationship. We are jealous. We argue. We have amazing sex. I think he is sexy. He thinks I’m sexy. I sometimes want to shoot him but I stop myself because I can’t imagine myself waking up next to someone else. I love my husband. No, he doesn’t have an influence in the decisions I’ve made, he just supports me.
B: That is sweet. Music wise, should we expect something from you?
M: YES! My single is dropping this month. The album will be dropping next year. Look out for that.
B: That is cool. I will look out for that. Nomasonto, it’s getting late. You still need to drive to Mpumalanga. Thank you so much for your time. I think we have covered it all. Good luck in all your endeavours.

I would recommend that you go for English lessons though – just conversational English so that the skin can gel with itongue.

We all have moustaches…its just that when you are lighter the contrast between your skin & your hair becomes more pronounced…for most light skinned chicks there is a visible fuzz above the lip…Waxing makes it worse, so she must just leave it or else it will come back coarser!

I like Mshoza more than I like Miss J.Bottomline I think she enjoys the attention. IF she had kept quiet and did all these procedures none of us would have been the wiser. I personally plan on doing all the procedure she has done as soon as I have my 2nd child, except for the bleaching and then keep quiet about it. Half my friends have done liposuction after giving birth not to mention boob reductions galore. In fact just about all the girls in my office have done breast augmentation and it is no big deal. If you can afford it why not.
