This and That…
November 23, 2011 by Brown Shuga
I’m not a fan of Michelle Williams but I can’t get over this picture of her…
.
Michelle stars in “My Week With Marilyn”, a film about Marilyn Monroe’s arrival in London in 1956 to make “The Prince and the Showgirl’’ with director and costar Laurence Olivier .
.
The film is based on two books by Colin Clark and it focuses on the week in which Marilyn spent time being escorted around Britain by Colin Clark after her husband, Arthur Miller left the country.
I would never have picked Michelle for this role… Scarlett would have been an obvious choice and I hear she was at some point a front runner for the role but it ended up going to Michelle. What do you think of Michelle as Marilyn?
Check out the movie’s trailer HERE:
Check out a review of the film HERE.
The Secrecy Bill Passed:
Yesterday was one of THOSE days in South Africa. The Secrecy Bill was passed yesterday, National assembly voted in favour. I honestly caught bits and pieces of this, I didn’t actually read the bill but here’s what Mail and Guardian says it is… (if you believe them) :
The hotly contested Bill was first introduced in 2008 by then-intelligence minster Ronnie Kasrils.
The Bill was meant to replace a piece of apartheid-era legislation that governed the classification of state secrets. Kasrils sought to create legislation that would protect state secrets but also uphold the constitutional principal of transparent governance. It included a provision that would allow whistleblowers to leak information that was in the public interest without fear of reprisal.
According to Kasrils, this version of the Bill was never tabled in Parliament and was scrapped by ruling party representatives at the committee stage after he resigned from government in September 2008.
When the Bill reappeared, its provisions were even more draconian than before. The new draft sought to create a law that would allow any organ of state, from the largest government department down to the smallest municipality, to classify any document as secret and set out harsh penalties of up to 25 years in jail for whistleblowers.
Read the rest HERE.
Some of the tweets regarding the Secrecy Bill and #BlackTuesday
.
I totally get where all the protesters of this bill are coming from and I support them but let the media not act like victims when some of them also write nonsense about public figures.
Your thoughts on this? Would love to hear.
Breaking Dawn and Records…
.
While every one is going on about Breaking Dawn and how much money it’s making at the box office… I can’t get over how unattractive Edward is… and when I’m ready to deal with the the fact that Bella chose him over Jacob, I will go watch the movie. Even if those who have seen aren’t giving it the best of reviews. I wonder what Barry Ronge said about this one.

STING IN SA
Not sure if we have Sting fans here but Big Concerts announced that he is coming to SA next year
.
Usher is coming during the same month and there was talk on Twitter that his Hansa tour might be cancelled but the tickets are still being sold on Computicket and there hasn’t been any word from the organizers re: cancellation, except the announcement 2 days ago about the Supporting Acts search
I hope that concert won’t be cancelled, I know he will fill Orlando Stadium. Well, I hope!

Lol @ “honestly caught bits and pisses of this” #dead
#Secrecy Bill: Anyway, censorship is not new. We are censored everyday, even in frivolous matters. And people who put themselves out there should not complain when rubbish is written about them – shut up and stay at home if you don’t want people discussing you.. Same goes for people who put their business out there and get hurt when shit is said about them in the papers or elsewhere. So that comment about public figures doesn’t hold any water for me..

Every goverment has secrets! Classified documents that will never see the light of day! All these protestors must just hush their mouths & sit the hell down!

The information bill kinda makes one wonder what is it exactly that our MPs want to keep secret from us… I personally doubt they care much for state secrets. But hey we will believe what they say and take their word for it. We did vote for them to be in parliament afterall. But in all honesty I think most tax paying citizens will think twice in the next general electins. And the DA may have just found the perfect weapon to use against the ruling party when lobbying for voters. I’m already one of those who are searching for a political party that will please me. For now ANC ndonele.
Hayi ke ndiyala when u say Rob Pattinson mubi! Kodwa ke bathi amehlo awaphakelani!

As for anc its not about freedom n equallity,or about the PEOPLE of the country its now about GREED! That indian man was apointed by Zuma now they strtd doing research 2see who he is exactly n found out his involved in da arms deal 2 money was even paid in2 his wife’s account. These ppl are animals. Um BS if I’m working hard everyday I have every right 2 know what the hell the govt is doing with my tax money I hav2 pay and who’s stealing! Yes there is sum corruption in other govts 2 but not as MUCH as this! SA will end upo like Zim or Libiya if we don’t make a Change in who’s in Power

Lolo do you even know what you’re talking about? You know very well that we’re aren’t protesting because we wan’t to know things that might jeopardise state security. With the Information Bill in place we won’t know when Bheki Cele decides to cheat us taxpayers by unnecessarily leasing out overpriced buildings to his friends, we won’t know when Julius Malema is receiving kickbacks from dodgy tender deals.
Are you saying that it’s non of our business how our hard earned money is spent – including yours? Please wake up. You need to know what you’re talking about. You talk like you’re benefitting from all the corruption when in fact you’re as poor as church mouse. If you believe we must shut up and sit down, then you’re no different to those blind idiotic Julius Malema followers who are always making noise and vandalising property instead of looking for a job. You’re the one that needs to shut up and sit down

So we elect people into power, we fund them with our tax money and what do we get in return? The Secrecy bill. Its like having directors who refuse to be accountable to theirs sharholders on their funds!I mean what the hell For? Do you understand that these are ordinary people put in power to mange ‘our affairs’ now they turn around and say hey listen guys we’ve decided we won’t tell you everything, there are just certain things that are for us to know and for you to keep guessing!how can lack of transparency be in the best interest of this country kodwa? Hayi shem it doesn’t make all the sense in the world to me.. A 3rd world country so deeply rooted by corruption and shenanigans introduces a secrecy bill!! I’m like. I’m just. I am. In fact I can’t!
Znat on Wed, 23rd Nov 2011 7:14 am
It pains me to say this, but the ANC has just lost my vote. I had issues with their corruption and bad governance in general nje, but this bill to protect their incompetence and corruption and sentence anyone who speak out to jail is the final straw. I’m done. We need a strong opposition. We know that it won’t go out of power in this generation but two thirds iyabahlantsha.
Re Edward, I’m with you, maybe I created Edward who was a god in my head while reading the books years ago, only to find Rob? #teamJacob he looks older now, I don’t feel guilty about drooling over him anymore

I watched Breaking Dawn on Sunday and I was bored. They shud stopped after the first movie (which was fantastic). Bella is so stupid in that movie, she refused to abort the baby even when it was eating her and was prepared to die.
Even if Edward was cute, I wouldn’t have choosen to marry him over Jacob and become a vampire, hell no! Those people are weird. Lets not talk about the sex scenes bantu, go and see for yourselves. Jacob is soooooo cute though. #TeamJacob!

The Act is unconstitution coz its against public interest ..SA is gna end up like Zim struu if the ANC is still in power.. Is this what we call democracy? I guess we no longer need Thuli Madonsela bcoz her function as a public protector has reached a sell-by-date..whats the point of having a public protector if she is no longer going to report to the public as to what’s happening in their government..
The Act is aimed to protect their corruptions..I think we must just stop paying tax period..
Solomon.Mahlangu on Wed, 23rd Nov 2011 7:41 am

Fezzy on Wed, 23rd Nov 2011 7:56 am
@sxylin…I dont know what Jacob was talking about yazi. Thats why I say I was bored.
When I saw what Edward did to the bed when they made love, I just wondered what he did to the poor virgin Bella. But Bella said it was amazing so…asazi. Yes Bella died and woke up as a vampire at the end of the movie.
I only enjoyed the sex scenes and the part where Jacob was in the Cullen’s house.

So I think people need to understand what POIB is about before they make uneducated commentary on the matter!
I have never voted before, mainly because I always knew ANC would win the elections. But I will most def be voting AGAINST them. Instead of taking accountability and putting measures in place to stop corruption they have now found a way to sweep in under the rug?! if an MPs have swindled millions of our tax money, spending it on lavish lifestyles WE SHOULD NOT KNOW? We need to know and furthermore Corrupt Officials need to be punished and not protected!!
Next we will have an autocratic form of government!!!

DexterSUPERIOR on Wed, 23rd Nov 2011 8:08 am
@Solomon, firstly, a company disclosing pay slips and government maladministering public funds are two different things. How on earth do you find similarities in the two scenarios? Secondly, South Africa is not an organisation. If anything it’s a business. We’re the shareholders of this business. We need to know how our investments are spent. Are you saying you don’t care how your money is spent?

There is no way the Information Bill was not going to be voted in. The ones who have most to hide, know that it will come in handy one day. Isnt it one of the pre-requisites of being a politician in SA. HAVE A SCANDAL, DRAMA AND LONG FINGERS.

@Fezzy and @sxylin, the werewolves cant kill the baby (half human/half vampire) because Jacob has inprinted on the baby, so she is one of them now. They have a rule that if a werewolf inprinst on someone/human/vampire, the person becomes one of them and they cant kill their own. Hope this makes sense.I guess since Jacon couldnt get the mother (Bella), he settled for the child. Lol
The movie was boring as well, it was more like romantic comedy than a vampire movie, loved the honeymoon villa.

I am even scared to comment about the IB after what I thought was a debate turned into an argument I had with i’ll call him an acquaintance who’s an official at ParliamentYersterday..when People are corrupt they will do anything to protect each other, the ANC does not care about what the public thinks they only care about the elite, card holding and to whom they refer to as comrades
I indulged him so as to explain the intention of the IB, and this is what he managed to come up with..The state has classified information, should that information be available to the masses including foreign lands, they could use that info to their advantage and ultimately leading to state security being threatend, I asked who classifies the information since the majority of the people who hold votes belong to the ANC he choked and then brother man started using bombastic words ndadinga idictionary kengokumna mntakabawo ndaba ndoyiswe apho ba bendingasamva only if I had the dictionary then after evry word he said I would have asked him to stop so I can look up the word

Am crossing my fingers that the National Council of Provinces does not approve the bill and if it does.
I hope the President wil not sign it and refer it back to the parliament for the insertion of the “public interest defence clause” that whistleblowers wil rely on in case they lick any info to the public.
If the President signs the bill to become a law. An appliction must be brought to the Constitutional Court to declare the Law Unconstitutional as it’s against public interest

Solomon plz don’t take offence I’d just like to shed some light on a little matter. Here’s how it goes firstly directors are those that are charged with management and governance of a company the shareholder is thus entitled to know what the detail of the directors interest in all transactions relating to the company are. this starts from their financial interest meaning shares held by directors in that particular company down to disclosure on their wife who works for the direct competition or for a company that regularly transacts with this particular company! and yes exactly how much they earn down to the last cent (directors that is not their wives) this specifically included in financial statements of the company listed under directors emolunments(sp)…In addition to that ALL of the shareholders have direct access to these F.Statements and prohibiting such access is a crime in terms of the co’s act. Further more it is of no interest to the shareholder to know how much the tea-lady and the secretary earns coz they have nothing to do with the companies affairs including governance and stewardship. Now apply that to what’s happening. The directors are the MP’s you are me are the tea lady and receptionist..now coming to your point don’t stretch your theory to much as we are only interested in the transparency of those who are elected to govern ‘MP=Directors’ this is becoz they are not there at their our capacities but they represent the interest of those who elected them ‘shareholder=Voter’. So yah that’s what the whole wooohaa is about in a nutshell yes its more complicated but….it just seemed like you comment was uninformed

seconded @ inUrdreams..
The financial statements (which shows what the company has spent in order to arrive at the earning declared i.e. the profits) are the most important thing to the shareholder as this allows them to know what is going on in the company so as to be able to make decisions on whether they believe the company is being run well. We as the shareholders in South Africa, with our money that we have invested by force through tax, need to know what is going on in our government..

You should vote for a party you can trust, and no one can make that choice for you, you need to decide for yourself.
I am not trying to sway anyone, I was just saying I will not vote for the ANC..
IS ANC is working for YOU?
TheSushiQueen on Wed, 23rd Nov 2011 9:47 am
Solomon and Sthombe – It is true that there isn’t a viable alternative party to the ANC which really speaks to black people in this country, however I believe that voting for someone else will be ONE more vote to WEAKEN the ANC so that they can finally see that the people are getting sick and tired. I voted for the DA not because I thought they would win, but to weaken the anc and hopefully they can wake up. It will take a long time before the anc loses an election but if they get weaker every election, they will start to realise that they need to do their jobs and hold their comrades accountable and stop the corruption..

@Dextersuperior… I know exacly what I’m talking about… I still say… The secrecy bill should be passed… for me yesterday was a normal Tuesday…There was nothing black about it!!!
You know wena @ Dexter… your idealism is cute, but honestly you need to grow up…
All governments thoughout out all time, across the whole globe are corrupt… they have always been corrupt…Governments have been corrupt since the time of Ceasar… Look at Egypt…The pyramids were built by slave labour… Like 30% of the workforce DIED during construction!!!
We cannot as citizens put our goverment on 24 hour surveillance, we can’t approve every tender they award..
We cannot make them account for every rand they collect in tax
I hate the asssertion that makes it seem like the ANC invented corruption, that they have a patent on it, That these darkies have to be monitored so that they do not stick their kleptomaniac hands on the cookie jar…
Fact is Dexter, I, personally do not care where my tax money goes after it is taken from my hands… By then the funds are no longer mine… there fore I have limited (infact no say) as to where they end up…
I do not think it is wrong for the government to award tenders for their friends as long as the job that is specified on the tender gets done, then I do not have issues…
All Governments have secrets Joe… all of them… remember when he US bullied the UN to go to Iraq in search of WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION, No such weapons were found…
but the US still invaded Iraq, when a UN worker said that there were infact no WMD in Iraq, he was killed…This is all public knowledge…Journalist found this out… told the world… this made headlines for maybe a week, but the US:
1. Did not pull out of Iraq, cause you see their national energy agenda demanded that they unseat Saddam & take his oil… You see the US needed & cared about oil more that they needed & cared about democracy… wrong & right… Those are just facts…Even in Ancient Egypt the Pyramids were more important than lives…
You are very right Dexter.. I am very poor…My tax money does get used to enrich the ANC top dogs & friends… but I am okay with that… In fact I am happy with that cause it means black people are beneffiting, becoming millionares… There have been 300 years where this was not the case… so us as black folk have some catching up to do… mna ndithi mayityiwe imali… futhi ityelwe ebumnyameni
So long live the secrecy bill long live!
I still love Juju BTW… he made his tenure as ANC youth league president beneffit him financially… to me that is genious… capitalism @ its best!
There will always be corruption… There is absolutely nothinging wrong with wearing my big girl knickers & dealing with it!

But I thinnk I must wait for my guy @ the robot to sell me the complete Twilight series DVD box set… sometimes the movies he sells me are of such an excellent quality…
But other times… not so much…I once bough a Lira DVD…that had Barorisi Ba Morena in it…It is all still Lira songs you see, but instead of the band, there is Barorisi Ba Morena clapping acapello, in the backround, very groundbreaking!… but the DVD is still watchable shem! That was R20 well spent!

@Thandwayo are you deluding yourself into believing that journalist can monitor the government??
That they( journaists) will be the watchdog that brings the government into line???
Like seriously… really???
This is how the world works Toto, on the 25th , when I get paid… before I have even paid my cheque account fees…
There will be a deduction on my pay… that deduction goes through every single month without fail,
There is no month, no matter how financialy pinched am that I can choose to skip a payment…
This payment goes through without me having signed a stop or debit order… it just goes through! … without fail…
Every single month ever since I started working…
The even worse part about this amount is that it is not decided by me..
Someone else, somewhere else decides…My part is just to pay.. There will never come a time as long as I work when the amount will be fully paid…
I will always owe…This is called tax PAYE (Pay As You Earn Tax)
I am a tax paying citizen, once the amount goes off it is out of my hands literary… I have no controll where it goes…
I wll never have controll as to where it goes… those are just facts!
This tax of mine, might go to building schools & hospitals, paying civil servants, giving grants to need kids…
It might also go to corrupt hands….
All I ask for is that the corrupt hands on the receiving end are black…
That @Thandwayo is my personal feeling on the matter!
Right or wrong… Good or bad!

Lolo I apprecaite and respect your opinions on the matter and I will not bend over backwards to make you think otherwise.I understand your pessimism, hell I think that we can debate all we want about where our tax money goes for donkey years and yet we’ll still have no control over it but that does not stop me from carrying about where this country is going, If we are to say we are a Democratic country why not be that, to censor information and classify it gives the Capitalist you spoke of free reing to take away from the poor and enrich themselves, while they continue leaving in conditions where their infrastructure, housing and sanitation is still below par.
We might be yap yapping on a blog, we do it out of frustration, we want to see a change in our country because we care for the development of this country, and by concealing information that places us in the know they are no different that the Apatheid Government, the difference is that the Mjority now is Black and they are looking after their own, and hell with the rest of South Africans who do not promote corruption, I am sure Jacob Zuma is shvering with Eagerness to Sign the bill because Our President is the No One crook of them all and he has made sure that his dirt is never revealed and shall be swept under that Expensive Carpet in his house baught by your hard earned tax money

The thing about the ANC is they know there isnt really any opposition in this country so they do as they please knowing we will still vote for them come next elections, sad but true!.. for instance I for one know I will never in a million years vote for the DA, so I’ll probably still vote for them as I’ve done the past two elections i’ve been able to vote or maybe not vote at all.

Makgatso.. there are never guarantees in almost anything.. anyway the reasons for such expensive disclosures is to prevent, detect and correct ‘whistle-blow’ fraud if I may put it like that..i fail to understand your point also. So forgive me if I go off kancinci are you saying were are better off not having such disclose coz they don’t provide 100% assurance/ guarantees??? Ok picture this imagine: if all the directors of vodacom had stake in the mtn pie?? How confident would you be that they have your best interest at heart as the shareholder of vodacom?? I’m guessing not very… Now imagine they were not require to tell you about their other interest in mtn and you go off investing all your money there when all they are doing is….in fact God know what there’d be doing. now tell me aren’t you better off knowing that hey these people are more interested in the well being of mtn then growing my wealth here at vodacom…my point is we need information order to make better and informed decisions. Ie I need to know what ministers are doing with the state money so that next time when its time to vote I can make an informed decision. I need to know how Zuma and co benefited from the arms deal andithi we put them there we should know so that if asikho happy we remove them!qha..I mean what good thing will come out of this bill?? Coz the list of bad things quite long

@Eulane… so love you are saying my unemployed perfectly healthy 26 year old nephew is infact not all that healthy,
So uthi wena kimi USipho wasekhaya has:
1. Diabetes
2. High blood pressure
3. Gout
4. Body cramps… ke re dekrampa ngoaneso makudlala i repeat
You say USipho wasekhaya uyagula ngoba uvuka ekuseni:
Ngiyala la shem , uSipho ngeke avuke ekuseni kakhulu… ethi uchaza bani?uvuka ngo 9 to watch repeats of rhythm City…
When we tell him to wake up, he says he is composing rap lyrics in his dreams SMH, & phela ukhuluma slow, mina angazi ukuthi uzoba ngimrapha onjani)
5. He catches a bus to work…you are once more wrong,uSipho akasebenzi, he wants to become a rapper… see the point above…
And even if bekasebenza, uthanda ukugibela iQuantum, he would NEVER be caught dead inside a bus, mangimthuma etown he always takes long cause he will only get into a new Quantum, nakhona edlalisa umculo omnandi! He likes loud sound systems!

KWaaaa kwaaaaaa LOLO on your Lira DVD. You are such a classic case wena shem!
With that said, i don’t share your views of enriching some FAT PIGS that do not deserve it. As George Orwell wrote in the book Animal Farm (forgot the character’s name) “All Animals are equal” and now the ANC (Napoleon & them) are saying “Some animals are more equal than others”. To our uneducated citizens, the two statements sound the same.
The ANC have clearly demonstarted that they do not deserve to govern this country as we need Transparent & Accountable leadership. Not a leadership that will try to cover-up their corruption and incompetence.
And to those saying, this is just a bill, people should read the bill and take a seat >>Catch a Frekken Wake-up! Are you only going to start voicing your disapproval when the bill becomes an ACT? It will be too late. Prevention is better than cure.
Phantsi nge Info Bill Phantsi, Phantsi ngama cover-ups Phantsy!

I dont really like politics but i thought i should share my two cents worth…
ANC failed dismally and its getting worse when they got into power they should have made sure they invested in Education the best for the black masses to promote independance and they should have taken away the grants they keep giving people in a way people would have learnt that its better to be educated and become and enterprenuer or so as to get a better Job , so as to buy a house build a better future for myself , so as long as the people get all these benefits they remain lazy and rely on the grants the grants were they not put in place by the white people inorder to make us lazy why work or finish school is i am to get R250 by having a child ..we need to remove that mentality from the masses , why should teh government give you houses when you can get up and work foryourself and build your own home out of your own sweat and tears…..

I got out of bed (was reading JC on my phone) and came to register and comment coz of this post.
#SecrecyBill – seriously, this was blown out of proportion. All governments have state secrets that they want to protect. The problem with this bill is not that it wants to protect secrets, but that there aren’t clauses within it that protect whistleblowers and investigative journalists. Please read Steven Friedman’s article http://www.businessday.co.za/articles/Content.aspx?id=159255 The ANC is only doing what most governments in the world do. The US definitely have a law protecting their state secrets and no one is jumping up and down about black tuesday or whatever.
As for the rest: #teamJacob!!
mnyamana on Thu, 24th Nov 2011 11:57 am
This info might be a bit late but this I thought this interesting and worth sharing got this from Ingabadi Group FB page
ABOUT PROTECTION OF STATE INFORMATION BILL . Today the parliament will vote on the bill , the move raise anger among media and civil society groups in the country. The possibility is that the ANC majority will put it into law. It is unfortunate that the media (because it is affected) elected to take sides on the matter. The information on the matter, after reading a number of newspapers does not mentioned the fact that this has nothing to do with the media infect in the whole document there is no mention of the word ” media or journalsit”. The reality is that this Bill can be classified as a law of general application in terms of the constitution . A law of general application apply to everyone not only journalist and no group should enjoy special protection which what some in the media and civil society demand. Also unfortunate is that the media talk about the bill not being constitutional , the reality is that only constitutional court can pronounce on the the constitutionality of any matter not the media or government. Lastly, everyone who wants to read the bill should read it inline with the Access of information Act of 2000 and you make your own conclusion/
