Score: Kenny Kunene 6 – 0 Sunday World
December 1, 2011 by Brown Shuga
.
This tweet was Kenny Kunene’s initial reaction to the story written on Sunday World titled “Out You Cheat! Sushi King in Bitter Divorce”, read it HERE.
I saw that tweet and in a way I agreed with him.. Sunday newspapers have this tendency to drag things out, give the public half a story and leave the rest for the following week.
.
Anyway, I guess Twitter’s 140 characters were not enough for what he wanted to tell the paper so he published a letter on his website, www.zaronline.co.za. If you missed it, the letter goes:
Dear Sunday World
The word “allegedly” is not a get out of jail free card for all journalists, and I intend to prove that by using the unfounded and vindictive article on page 1 and 2 of 27 November 2011 as a case study. Ngwako Malatji’s article claims to have an anonymous source which is supposedly a family relative of mine. This supposed source seems to believe that my wife, Mathato, and I are getting a divorce.
This is the first major error in your article. We are not getting a divorce, nor is it something that either of us have ever even considered. Please feel free to confirm this fact with Mathato, if she could ever even be induced to speak to you in the first place, as speaking to anyone from Sunday World is a lot like trying to kiss a cobra.
The second falsehood in the article is the statement that Ezra is my cousin. He is not, a fact that should hardly be difficult to prove. He has made it utterly clear that he never said any of the things that your article claims, and he is willing to make a sworn affidavit to this effect. Find attached an email from Ezra distancing himself from your bullshit story.
Thirdly, you claim that my “affair” with Eda Rose (not “Edith” can you not even get someone’s name right?) incensed Mathato. This is untrue. My wife does not care about anything that happens on my TV show. Eda Rose was my date to a wedding. That controversy existed mainly in the mind of the media. My wife could not have cared less.
It’s no secret that I believe in polygamy, and my wife knows this. For your fourth blunder, your source claims that my family “reprimanded me for my licentiousness” in a “series of meetings”. These meetings never took place. I would like to see any proof you have that they did. No one in my family has reprimanded me. I would never tell my wife to jump into the nearest lake. That’s not a phrase that even exists in my lexicon. I don’t speak to my family like that.
Fifth error: I have never stopped visiting my family home in Welkom. Not long before your article ran, I was at my house with my wife and kids filming an episode of So What? My wife was interviewed during this and spoke of how strong our marriage is. I have this evidence, timecoded on Panasonic cameras. In return, ask yourselves, what evidence do you have? Your claim that I don’t even go to my house, is aimed at creating perception that I am an irresponsible father who does not even visit his children, which is completely untrue.
Most importantly, the insinuation that my wife is sleeping around is one that does not sit well with either of us. At all. You have not only insulted a mother, a wife, a sister but have also insulted a teacher whom those young kids under her guidance look up to. Your choice of words does not erase the perception your article has created about Mathato. As for the ludicrous comment that Mathato said something snide about Ezra’s car, the article veers towards the absurd. She does not drive the same model as Ezra, as you claim. By the way I only have 2 kids with Mathato, not 3 as you fabricated.
Just wonder what type of journalist Sunday World employs, Xolile Mtshazo can’t even get his facts right about when the first Sushi Party happened which was last year. My wife and children don’t stay in Odendaalsrus and Kutlwanong Township is not in Virginia, such stupidity, please get your facts straight before hating.
I realise I am in the public eye, so have accepted I will need to eat the dirt kicked into my face by reckless journalists as they supposedly dig for the truth. In reality, though, all they are succeeding in doing is clawing through a pile of steaming shit. When it comes to my family, I draw the line, no one including the Sunday World fucks with my family. No man can sit idly by and witness someone attempting to tear his life apart using nothing but lies and fabrication. It’s obvious to me that there is a vendetta against me at Sunday World. Previously, the paper had to print a retraction when it speculated groundlessly that my financial well-being is based on crime. Need I point out that this history will not look very good in court?
I am normally always willing to make a comment and to give time to a journalist. The writer, however, did not reveal the full extent of the libel that you eventually opted to publish, so I was not given the opportunity to respond and perhaps save you from yourselves. Finally, your seventh deceit is that you claim that you could not reach Mathato at the time of going to print. Her phone is never off. We can print out copies of her phone records to show that you did not attempt to contact her. If your source was so close to my wife, you’d think the least he/she would have would be a phone number. Once again, I wonder how this is going to look before a judge?
I am willing to find out. The question is, is Sunday World? I am going to give your paper the same opportunity I afforded it the last time. Print a retraction and an apology. I’m not talking about an insignificant box on the corner of the front page or whatever page. I’m talking about a proper retraction, as prominent on the front page as the libel you published on the 27th.
Failing this, we are heading for a very interesting civil suit, one that I must tell you I am actually looking forward to. Perhaps your mystery source is the one I should be suing, but for now I couldn’t even begin to speculate about such a person, so I can only assume that this person is as much a figment of your imaginations as Ezra’s comments were. I wonder if a judge will believe that you really have a source. I wonder how easy you might find it to introduce the two of them to one another.
Last I checked, no judge on this planet has imaginary friends. So I doubt they’ll appreciate imaginary witnesses. Don’t think I don’t like a good fight. But if you print the retraction, I will be true to my word, and leave you to write your nonsense for another day.
This type of journalism makes one understand why most politicians and celebrities don’t co-operate with journalists, because some of you use the platform you have to hate and commit your time and energy to destroy those you have an agenda against. It’s really sad. I have never stopped any journalist from writing stories about me, it is their pap and milk. Lies have been written about me but when you involve my family I don’t give a fuck how big or a giant you see yourself to be, I will take you on.I will be waiting in anticipation for a retraction and apology this Sunday, failing which my legal team will be communicating with you not me.Kenny Kunene
.
It’s about time someone took some of these papers on. Media Freedom does not come without responsibility.
Just yesterday, I had to explain myself to someone who had been carrying pain in their heart since January 2011, due to an ugly comment I was alleged to have made about them. That Sunday newspaper misquoted me and fortunately, I had emailed my comments to the journalist (I even made a joke that if she has to edit she must not twist things) so when I got confronted about this yesterday, I searched for my original email to the journalist and just forwarded to the person concerned. We have to put a stop to this guys.
Now we wait to see if Sunday World will publish the apology and retraction as Kenny requested.

big ups to KK. Im so sick an tired of how the media goes on a manhunt on a black person thats living large even though many well to do white mense have obtained their riches in dodgy ways. there is a sterotype perpetuated by the media that blacks cannot have a stable home and healthy bank balance and it makes me sick. i sit in an office where im the only ndaki and i have seen things that would raise alarm bells and be printed in every paper if the directors were black. i truly believe there is some movement behind the scenes that has a dedicated agenda to discredit thina. SW deserves whatever is coming to them.

Kusihlwa on Thu, 1st Dec 2011 12:31 pm
@Fezzy here is the short version.Nozi aka Bonnie Hena (who sucks in that role by the way) continued to beg Tshidito sleep with Maidi to save her marriage and hinted that she has some condition which she needs to recover from. This got Tshidi curious about what that illness is and asked Maidi who would not reveal anything. The pills that Lucilla ordered and Elizabeths swapped with Naomis are starting to have thier effect as Naomi lost it at Rons farewell and when she heard Elizabeth trying to leave in the middle of the night she triedto stop her and wrestle with her before passing out from shortness of breath on her flat floor with a cellphone in her hand. Suffocte finally told Puleng that he loves her but thanks to the mic on the bar counter the sound ampliefied to the whole club which was embarrasing for his male ego.
@Lady Sasha tell us more.
bongi on Thu, 1st Dec 2011 12:43 pm
@ Kusihlwa i thought i was the only one who thinks that Nozi character is not on. Also u Suffo i pictured him to the rough (in a sexyway) township outi who wont be scared to reveal his feelings. As for u Elizabeth i fear for her life; Naomi is ruthless shame..even thinking of killing the child.
Kusihlwa on Thu, 1st Dec 2011 12:50 pm
@Bongi, did you watch it the day they(Nozi) went to the club with Tshidi and she was wearing a short black skirt when she got up to dance I saw her lime underwear and that was not nice, I think she is more mature for that character she is more housewife material than party girl. I think Suffo is scared of the impact of having a woman 24/7,he does not want any complications and Puleng looks like the “Iam here to change you” type of girl as she has done lapha e parliement ka Suffo and that is a no no…

Ok kusi I typed a long comment and it didn’t pull thru, I am not gonna type it again. Summary: everyone thinks millicent is kidnapped, naomi is gonna be admitted in hospital, lucilla attacks naomi in public and naomi gets a restraining order against her, lucilla violates the conditions of the protection order, naomi gets her arrested, naomi and miles get very close together and they are trying to comfort each other bcos millicent is still missing,(while lucilla is in jail) they end up being very close and share intimate kissess now and then, maidi is in love with tshidi, he tells her he loves her and wants to spend the rest of his life with her, he wants to leave nozi

So the long and short of it is SW cooked the facts, invented ‘Ezra’ and the whole story is false…the journalist must be very creative/innovative.
KK…I like him though, he’s sharp, he can speak his mind and his press statements are usually interesting…
now bloggers, I need your views. a married male friend asked his female friend to be his date at a workplace year-end function. The wife knows that she is his friend. Is it appropriate that she goes as his date? wifey stays out of town and has a small baby…….what do you think
Fluffie on Thu, 1st Dec 2011 3:49 pm
@ Lady Shasha – thanks for the scoop; sounds interesting!
@ posh – I think there’s nothing wrong with accompanying him to work function. The onus lies between the 2 of the to be responsible adults and not do anything to jeopardise the friends’ marriage! (okay f*ck it am too trusting)
But you can’t keep making rules for ur man if u are not around him; if he wants to cheat he will cheat in any case!
Loyalty counts and goes a long way…*my opinion*

We took him to the clinic (thank goodness he agreed), he still takes his medication & I’m convinced he’s almost well.
Thanks Meiki’s role from Muvhango coz I thought it was some sort of punishment and only happens to poor and illiterate people like us (my family)

My cousin was chatting to some gogo that cleans their offices and she said I should take my lil one to a river on a cold day.. I should wear some thorns of some tree on my head, undress the baby and splash her with the water from the river. Splash her on her back, ankles and knees and she’ll start walking!! The gogo says she did it with two of her kids and they walked.. Angazi who to believe and what to do. But we have started attending physio.

Guys I need yalls advise. you know that I started a new job in August in a new city but the truth is I am not happy in my new environment. The bosses ill treat the black people and are friendly to the whites. White people are paind more than black people and basically do nothing, they even have the nerve to assign stories yo us. like imagine your junior giving you a story to do because they do not want to do it or can not get hold of the people and now its your problem. So mina I have applied for another job at a great place but the problrm is that it is in Durban and involves moving again after hubby has just found a new job here but the pay is almost double and I can study for fre and the benifits include a house allowance whcih I am happy with but my hubby likes his new job so I dont know what to do. S.O.S

I finally resigned at work and now I’m serving my 1 month notice which officially ends on the 8th but my boss asked me to stick around until the 15 and will pay me for those days, I think resigning was the best decision for my career and next year I’m going back to school full time to do my degree and my mom will be paying for everything (she’s the best) with that said this December is going to be great following by an exceptional January because my man is coming to Cape Town and will stay until I finish my studies, this weekend I’m celebrating hard.
@Nkey are you going to the Afrotaiment picnic???
Kusihlwa on Fri, 2nd Dec 2011 3:01 pm
@bongi the job is in the same province just in Durban not PMB.

@Dejane….physio is the way to go,pray harder and believe God for a miracle, sometimes listening to other people’s ways of doing things, might not work for you especially going to the river and the splashing of water on your child. Please seek advise from a reputable pastor.
