In Memory Of Muzi Clive

Thursday, 12 January 2012, marks a sad day for the entertainment industry of South Africa. We all lost one of the greatest guys that I have had the pleasure of meeting, Muzi Clive Ngwenya, through what is suspected to be a lightening related incident.

Family spokesman, Mr Sipho Skenjana, says it is suspected that a bolt hit the TV socket causing the TV to explode and the fumes and smoke led to his fatality. When I arrived at the scene accompanied by Muzi’s mom, the whole room was black as if it was on fire with finger marks on the wall showing what Muzi tried to escape but failed. The autopsy report confirmed that he died from smoke and soot inhalation.

I first saw Muzi Clive Ngwenya when he was a contestant on the first season of Class Act.  I will be honest in saying I never liked him, I thought he was arrogant, little do I know that he would turn out to be one of my favourite people in this industry a few years down the line.

I first had the pleasure of actually spending time with him last year during the SABC 1 Durban July. He was humble, kind, funny and genuinely interested in what other people have to say. The one thing that stood out about Muzi is his respect for other people irrespective of who they are.

My deepest condolences go to Sis’ Aggie (Muzi’s mom) who, 2 years ago, lost her husband. Muzi leaves behind a 3 year old daughter and brother.  I think I speak for everyone that has had the honour of being in Muzi’s presence when I say, South Africa has lost one talented and good man. Those come very far and in between.

May his soul rest in peace.
