KICK OFF’s Confessions Of A Footballer! TJO!

KICK OFF Magazine has a monthly feature called “The Secret Footballer” where SA Soccer Players share stories anonymously and this month’s feature made me go TJO!

In this issue, one SA Footballer talks about girls and AIDS and I will share a few extracts from the article . He says:

” RIP Thabang Lebese. Sometimes when things like this happen, and someone brings it up at training and in the dressing room, you can hear it in the silence that we are all scared. We get caught up into thinking we’re invincible, often we won’t admit that we think we’re larger than life. But being a footballer is a lifestyle and nine times out of ten, players fall into the rock and roll vibe.

We like the expensive cars. We like the expensive clothes. And we love the girls. Love the groupie love. Sometimes, we just can’t help it. It’s like a drug – having dozens and dozens (and in certain cases, hundreds and thousands) of girls telling you how amazing you are, how much they want you, what they’re willing to do to be with you. Married, unmarried, girlfriend, no girlfriend … groupie love is there. I can call a girl and she knows exactly what I want from her, she gives it without a question, and gets what she wants in return – the satisfaction of being with a footballer.

We share girls. A teammate will show me a pic and brag about a girl he has just been with, but we all laugh because most of us have done her too. We know these girls just want a footballer, anyone, everyone. We know AIDS is real. We know they want to get pregnant with a player’s child in order to have a nice car and a nice house. We know they go to the papers because they want fame. “

Maybe we should play GUESS WHO and guess which player wrote this? They’ll stop talking if we bust them though so maybe not.

The bigger thing here is that these girls who degrade themselves like this will HOPEFULLY learn a thing or two from this lifestyle that they leading. Eish. People aren’t really scared of AIDS shame, if they are still doing this to them selves! I feel sorry for the poor kids who’ll be conceived under these conditions.

    Wish I could be one of this girls just for one day,and find out what pleasure or gain besides financial gain do they get..and the reality is that some of them they dont get any financial gain maybe replica shirts for the teams.

    While this a worldwide phenomenon for soccer players to live on the edge and sometimes reckless,and one cant blame them sometimes.The difference with our players is that after their playing days are over they cannot sustain themselves,we heard of cases of players needing some contributions of some sort because they cant afford medical bills..

    my observation is that players and most men in general marriage could be a safety net,even if one will still do ‘other stuff’ outside the frequency and reckleness is sometimes minimised. Most players that settled into the marriage institution have done well for themselves even after their playing days.

    This does not make me go tjo at all. This happens to be a reality with most men, not only soccer players or sports stars. If most men in the community are like this, why on earth would we expect soccer players to be aby different? Man shag and swop shags all the time! This is not exclusive to these players so I am really not shocked at all by this ‘confession’… All we need to do is open our eyes and close our legs as ladies. All men need to do is zip their pants.     Ladies,man troubles are exactly that,man trouble. My last bf was a soccer player for a prominent team…everywhere we went,ppl recognised us.Sadly,I ws always labelled the ‘groupie’. I neva let it get 2me though cos I knew my man loved me. The same way u cnt stop ppl calling u names…u cnt stop a man doing his shenanigans. My point is,the issues I faced with him were the same as of previous relationships with non-soccer player bf’s. However,the ‘groupie’ craze is on another level,and yes the girls will do ANYTHING to bed the guys. Sad reality.
    Must admit,there r perks.The holidays,the lavish life,the works.But at the end of the day,every gal wants some1 who’ll be there and love them.Period!
    To me,he was yet another amazing guy,who happened to be a baller. That’s all!

    while i was still in varsity (Bloem) me and my friends used to stay ko this flat near some hotel and players from a certain team from bloem that won i think Telkom charity cup after years and years stayed there(Most of them). 3 of the players had “Girlfriends” at our lil complexnyana and ths girls didnt mind shem if they bring other different girlfriends to their flats (They used to throw parties during the week and will bring gals)so it was happening at the party. as long as ths gals gets the “skipper” *giggles*, tickets to the stadium to watch the game, booze and be SEEN with ths guys at clubs they didnt care

    I however think footballers are like any other guy just that they are in the public eye and anything they do is news. There is this guy in my complex stays with his baby mama. Been together for years considering the child is over 7 years. Well baby mama usually works out of town for months leaves her car ku bf. Bf fetches nother girl the minute baby mama leaves. The girl would be in the flat for 2 whole months sleeping in baby mama’s bed using baby mama’s things. And now I’m thinking surely there are times they would not use protection if they can spend months together. So kuyafana wethu kunzima nje every where.

    For all I know while my man goes to work every day he might be spending his lunch time on some 19 year old 1st year student res room. Life injalo ke.

    they get tested regularly for hiv and drug usage, if the tests come back positive you are imeddatly put on the transfer list and sold just like that.
