White People Annoy Me

March 27, 2012 by

Okay, I’m lying, it is not the White people that annoy me in this country; it is our race relations or lack thereof.

We have become a nation of denialism and dinner table gossip. The issues that need to be discussed are shunned and those that are brave enough to bring them up in public are ridiculed and called named names in order to discourage them.

For the record, I am not an ‘angry black’ or a ‘professional black’ but a South African citizen that believes that my White fellow citizen really should sit down when it comes to some of the issues in this country. Agreed, I was not there during the times of racial segregation in our country, I narrowly escaped being brainwashed by the psychological poison that was being administered by the apartheid government and I was not offered inferior education because of the belief that all I’m good enough for is to be a garden boy or a factory worker and if I display “superior” intellect then I can become a nurse or a teacher.

Yes, all the above did not happen to me but:

  • I am the one stuck with parents who believe that White people are superior,
  • I am the one with relatives that live in squatter camps earning less than R1500 per month,
  • I am the one is expected to take care of my parents after their retirement because in their struggles to raise me, they never had the disposable income to save for retirement.
  • I am the one that had to give up my dreams of being a surgeon because I had to rush towards my financial independence in order to give my mother a break before she is 65 years old.

None of my White friends that I met at varsity and in the corporate environment could say that they have experienced some of the things that I have listed but whenever we would have a political debate, they would be the first ones to complain about employment equity, affirmative action and the tender process.
Irregardless of the fact that White people still benefit from the tender process and the fact that White people still run corporate South Africa.

When we complain, we are told that it has been 18 years since 1994 and that the playing field should be levelled by now. We are told that AA and EE are subtle forms of reverse racism. It is so funny how you can invade someone’s house (call her Nomonde), poison the minds of her children into them thinking they are inferior, biochemically inhibit the physical growth of her children so that they can’t be physically strong enough to revolt against you, torture her for speaking up against the injustice, go as far as to lock her or her children up if they try and revolt and then decide to give them back their home when the neighbours take action against you and your children.

You and your family are no longer allowed to buy in the neighbourhood shops, your kids are not allowed to play sport with other kids and you finally end the madness after suffering and bloodshed. Despite the your cruelty over a period of 90 years, Nomonde proposes that you shouldn’t be punished or evicted; she proposes that all of you can live together as a family and let bygones be bygones. She then proposes that you give her time to rehabilitate her kids and ensure that in the future they can have a fair advantage when competing with your kids. Nomonde went as far as to include your wife in the rehabilitation as she also suffered in your hands.

18 years down the line, your kids are now complaining that they are being mistreated and the arrangement is unfair as they are now being punished for your actions despite the fact that when Nomonde got her house back, she allowed you and your spouse to keep the main bedroom with the en-suite, your kids still kept their bedrooms, she moved inside the house whilst her children remained in the out building that you built for them without proper facilities. Basically, you and your family were left in the same position you were in whilst you kept her and family captive in their own home. Does your family really possess the right to bitch and moan? Does it make sense?

I will not lie; it pisses me off when a White person complains about Black people. It pisses me off even further that we live in a country where a Black man has to be “white” in order to climb the corporate ladder. I can’t stand the fact that Black DJ’s have been fired for saying 1/100 of the things that White DJ’s like Gareth Cliff get away with. It saddens me that we still have areas of this country where a White man can get away with racially motivated assault. Yes, we as Black people are far away from perfect in the way in which we are running this country politically but in all fairness we were thrown into “power” and exposed to trillions of Rands straight from prisons, exile and poverty. It is natural that there will be those consumed with greed and corruption, expecting less would be like starving 20 people for 3 days and then making them serve food at a luncheon without making some of it disappear into their mouths. Yes, some will have the integrity but some will not just steal something to eat at that moment but will steal enough to ensure that they are do not go hungry for at least a week.

My sentiments do not serve to justify the greed and corruption within our government, it is simply wrong and needs immediate action; they do not serve to vilify White people or to label my generation of Black people as victims that should be given handouts. My sentiments serve to ‘sensitise’ fellow White citizens and to allude to the fact that their bitching and moaning is an insult to us as fellow Black citizens. They serve to also ‘sensitise’ the Black people that become part of the chorus, in order to buy face, when White people whinge. We need time to level the playing field and be on par without the whinging of the people that contributed or benefitted from the problem that left us here. It is counter-productive and, to say the least, annoying.

Disclaimer:

*The word ‘sensitise’ appears courtesy of the African National Congress.

*I am a Gareth Cliff fan. Love his work.

*I am not an ‘angry poet’ or a ‘refugee’.

Thank you Mabler! I missed you. I just wish the government could buy all these annoying whiners one way tickets to australia. Its so annoying to listen to them reverse apartheid blah blah blah! Until I’m travelling the world instead of paying for my sibling’s education , until I can afford to buy property without building my parents a house first, and everything else u mentioned, then they should just shut up and sit down and accept that AA is here to stay

And you know what’s more annoying that white people complaing about AA? Ignorant black people who complain about it!

OMG, brilliant article! The personification of South Africa is fitting. I am also tired of ‘Professional Whites’ who complain about affirmative action whilst they still sleep in the master bedroom. Tired of how blacks can never be good enough for them. However what really grinds my nuts is the Umhlanga, Sandton and Bishops Court blacks who think they are better than their township counterparts. SA needs a serious introspection!

no words truer have been spoken, there’s still so much psychological transformation that needs to be administered. What sucks is the sence of entitlement amongst our fellow white counterparts and lack of confidence amongst black people.

Yah yah….and they must wash their hands after using the toilet! Practice what u preached to us white man…we see you!

Seriously tho…its angers and saddedns me when I even go to a restaurant or petrol garage and I realise that white people are still given preferential treatment over black clientele BY a young black employee! It jus goes to show the real depth of the impact that the “inferiority” they imposed on blacks is still around today!

Even with “educated” black folk, its easier to stand up to ur black manager BUT when it comes to mlungu, we resort to “side eyeing”, swearing n gossiping abt them in vernac.

I think SA is going dwn the drain. The best way to mend this country is through education nd the current system is worse than apartheid. The black mind kicks itselt out of nomonda’s outside room to a shack

Gosh! This article is titled why I hate white people please let us stop attacking each other. Recently I have started an email campaign, whenever I receive good service from a fellow black I send an effusive letter of congratulations and thanks to their superiors. There really needs to be a concious active black brotherhood. We must stop liking the fact that we are the only black person among an all white stuff. Whrnever positions come in wr need to bring fellow black in. Tip them, give them pointers on what questions to expect. Pull each other up as a people.

    Thx 4 ukukhumbulekhaya @Mablerh, much appreciated…

Gr8 article all round, Hhwever, I don’t think we shd ever try to defend or ‘understand’ why there are elements of greed and corruption in our current leadership, especially us black ppl, bcoz graft affects us the most, case in point are the elderly women who have to brave a crocodile infested river every month to go get collection their social grant, while we have abo Bheki Cele signing dodgy deals left, right & centre & still have the audacity to burst out in a song during the inquiry into his shenanigans thus showing dat he doesn’t even tyk dat process seriously…

Greed & corruption is the cancer that will make it virtually impossible for our parent & grandparents to enjoy our democracy & the sad part is that it looks lyk they have accepted this & are happy with just this meaningless freedom brought abt democracy. Our current leadership is also brainwashing ppl to believe that doing the bare minimum that they are in office deserves a round of applause & failing to do the bare minimum should be ‘understood’ bcoz it’s the inherent results of apartheid… We even find ourselves congratulating & celebrating the few clean audits tht some govt depts get when this shd b a norm & I knw 4 a fact that it’s doable it’s just tht our govt is corrupt…

I like the article. The guy makes a lot of sense. I’m just not too sure about the title. I know if it were a white person who wrote ‘Black People Annoy Me’ the country would come to a stand still. Media is very powerful and most of the time they’re the ones that fuel this tension.

    “Seriously tho…its angers and

@KevCare, but for how long are we gonna blame actions of silly people on inferiority? It’s been a while since the South African black man was free. Those who still feel inferior are inferior by choice.

What if its just a tip issue. We all know that the majority of black people never tip petrol attendants and waiters. I’d also run if I were them.

Its hard guys, so hard to be black. Its a vicious cycle and I think the current gov also brainwashed people into thinking that the gov will do everything for them, even if they have to wait 10yrs for a flushing toilet :( how do we remedy this? What happened to the fire that our people had in their spirits during the apartheid era? Robert sobukwes spirits is needed

  28. Smang-mang Warona on Wed, 28th Mar 2012 9:06 am

I believe that while the racial divide and privilidge between black and whites is still very much there, I think South Africa is starting to battle a CLASS WAR.

Let’s be honest – not every black person, on this blog and elsewhere, is previously disadvantaged. The problems we have in this country are starting to become more about class and the have and have-nots than about racism. Although we insist on calling it that every time even when it’s not.

Black people out there are resentful of white people because it is due to their oppression of us that (some of us) are not as priviledged.. I mean, for example, is Sexylin’s son going to feeling a certain way about white people because he doesn’t have the things that they have? Probably not. He would have gone to the best schools along with white people, socialise with them and other prvilidged black kids and have absolutely no problem with white people because he has no reason to blame them and their racism for his economic circumstances.

Blacks are tired of seeing some other black people (and white people) prospering while their luck isn’t as great so what do we do? We blame white people and racism.

I repeat – not all black people are previously disadvantaged or currently disadvangted. SA is facing a class issue and this is also directed at white people.

We are frustrated and resentful and this is magnified by our economic circumstances.

And before I get attacked – I was merely offering another point of view, not stating that racism isn’t alive.

Mablehr your headline is blatantly sensational. Writing a title that has everything to do with being annoyed by white people, and claiming to be lying about it in the first paragraph is shameful!
I wonder if you would say those things to white people you are complaining about on their face!!! Like somebody said most of us will never stand to our white managers but we do it when the manager is black!

LOLO for president!! I’m joining! I’m going to do it!!! Hooray to positive solutions! Lolo dear leave the professional black whingers to be and let’s push this positivity!

  37. sxylin on Wed, 28th Mar 2012 9:48 am

Hehehehe Mablerh what a title! What an annoying point of view from some! I agree with one blogger who says blacks are oppressed (pls slit my wrists if its Dexter*sickface) but anyway I think blacks are opressed by choice! This will always go way back to Bantu education where most of our parents were made to believe the white man is superior; it truly pisses me off to still go to a town like Port Elizabeth and find that I’m prob the only black person that stays at their hotel and therefore the blacks will treat me like a fecken 2nd class citizen!

    But still this happens everywhere; in the work place you get whites being politically correct and condescending smiles of tolerance whereas all they are thinking is this black fool; the only way to get ahead still is to suck up to the blerry wwhite man! Fuck that shit I don’t want my son growing up thinking he is white; its too sad because that’s what is prob gon happen because I have no business teaching him the diff between black and white goes way beyond skin color! Mxim sad world;

  38. lolo on Wed, 28th Mar 2012 9:51 am

@Ndesheni I will NOT read your article the second time around… once was more than enough … Thanks for the offer though…You write crap.In your comments you first claim to agree with Mablerh and then contradict yourself by saying we should not understand Black greed because it results in the disantvantage of fellow blacks… I do not know if you know the meaning of the word ambiguous or duplicitous… but both words came to mind when reading your comment…How does an expensive lease of a government building even start to equate to centuries of pilfering, plundering and out right theft (at gun point) of Africa’s resources by whites… You honestly cannot be that stupid. Why is is that black like you are always the first to accuse other black people of being corrupt perpetuating apartheid when we are innocent of this.Bheki Cele did not INVENT corruption ke! In case you did not know… Nibasaba kabi abelungu! uyisilima shem!

  39. Nomaha on Wed, 28th Mar 2012 9:52 am

You know its a great article if Dr Softie graces us with her presence.

Racism will forever affect a black man what is important is how we (blacks)handle it. We can choose to feel sorry for ourselves(moan and complain) or do things that will empower us in ensuring we lead a comfortable lifestyle. The future of our children lies in our hands. How we groom them for tomorrow depends entirely on us not on a white person.

  42. lolo on Wed, 28th Mar 2012 10:01 am

BTW I have embarked on an email campaign praying ONLY fellow blacks for good service to their employers… I do not know if my actions help the employees, but the cannot hurt! I also seek out other black proffesionals to buy services from, I went to a black gynea for all of my childrens births even though his practise was further than the white gynea’s . If I buy from a shop that has a commision structure like a furnisher shop , I always buy from the black member of staff. This makes a difference. Other races like the Jews and the Indians go far cause they suppurt each other. I admire Bheki Cele for entering the government into a lease agreement with a fellow black builing owner. If fellow blacks did this we would really go far because there is a rapidly growing black middle class in our country! Even with my nails, the person who has started doing my nails works i a white owned establishment, but her and me see each other at her own home so that she can make extra cash. That shit is important , it counts, we need to support each other!

I second Dex on this one, people are inferior by choice, I’m previously disadvantaged but I’ve accepted that it was the system not a MAN!!

Last night I was watching the doccie they had on Robert Sobukwe and I was so humbled by his contribution to SA, he had so much self-respect for himself and every living being regardless of race and he never saw himself inferior despite the cruel circumstances he was subjected to.

Black people need to stand up for themselves and be firm whilst at it, no double standards, whether It be at work, shops or anywhere. We all have a voice and it’s up to each individual to show the next person how we should be treated!

But u can go on & call ppl u dnt know names if it makes u feel good or feel like u r the president on dis blog like one blogger has already caressed ur ego by nominating u 4 president…

Maybe u were born in that big city u live in or maybe u r one of those black who aren’t previously disadvantaged and you don’t know how it’s like to be dependent (not by choice)on the govt that u voted into power and still get nothing – not even an enclosed toilet while the likes of Cele enrich themselves with tax payers money!

Let’s not lie to ourselves by saying ‘Not every black person is previously disadvantaged’. We are not talking about kids 18 years and below here or a handful of South Africans.

The article is talking about a broader South Africa whose people have been previously disadvantaged

  51. lolo on Wed, 28th Mar 2012 10:30 am

@Ndesheni despite my best efforts your stupidy continues unabbated. So I will use a parable to make you understand.

Lets say you have two hunting dogs, the one dog is black the other white, Now the owner of both dogs feeds , walks , trains and generaly cares for the white dog, when meals are given , the white dog gets the bigger portion, twice as big as the black dog, The white dog is taught tricks, it can roll and fetch and even fetch mail for the owner, Everytime it gets a trick right it is praised and rewarded with a juicy steak. While all of this is happening the black dog is tied up and given only scraps to eat. Years later the ownner deides to give equal treatment to both dogs… Now the black dog is expected to do tricks i was not taught, when it does not perfor it is ridiculed, Post equality the black dog dares to eat the steak the white dog wo during a trick… Do yo now kick the black dog for wanting to taste steak?

  52. Smatsatsa on Wed, 28th Mar 2012 10:36 am

@Lolo, we all know the system was created by the white gvt now, How you choose to relate to a white person is purely out of choice.

You either choose to see them as your superiors or you see them as equal, yes the system gave whites power back then but now it’s different. My parents are previously disadvantaged but never did they instil the fear of whites in me, they explained how the previous government influenced their lives and the type of life I had but they were firm in assuring me that they are not superior nor was I an inferior human being despite limitations imposed by them. Hence I grew up knowing that they had imposed limitations but how I saw them was purely out of how I view myself as a person and my attitude towards them..

Do you know why apartheid succeeded and probably continues to? It’s for the same reason Biko died – the white people got into the minds of our parents and ancestors. Do you know how you reason while you are young? Through your parents, their opinions and their experiences.

Although I wasnt raised wealthy, my parents came from an affluent family, but you best believe they are still very opressed in their minds – I choose not to fear any white person, yet I despise them. Stop for a minute and think how your life would have turned out had it not been for apartheid – especially wena Smatsatsa? Mxim! It’s the kinds of black people here that give the white man victory over and over again! Yoh shame we are fighting a losing battle as black people shem!

  54. Smatsatsa on Wed, 28th Mar 2012 11:05 am

@Loulou, we all know that our lives would’ve been different if It wasn’t for apartheid, we all stop to think about it trust me,

“Mxim! It’s the kinds of black people here that give the white man victory over and over again! Yoh shame we are fighting a losing battle as black people shem!” Please elaborate how do we give white man victory over and over by choosing to see ourselves as equal..

Having that “Ja Baas” mentality does that..

  55. Smang-mang Warona on Wed, 28th Mar 2012 11:20 am

@Vesa – I am over 25 years old and I am not previously disadvantaged. I know 30 year olds who are also not previously disadvantaged.. Please let us think further than our noses when trying to push our own points and agenda’s.

  56. Smang-mang Warona on Wed, 28th Mar 2012 11:22 am

Lets be honest.. previously disadvantaged is used mainly when speaking about economic circumstances nowadays..

  57. Ndesheni on Wed, 28th Mar 2012 11:25 am

@Lolo let’s just accept tht our views on govt greed & corruption are different & move forward & thx bt no thx with ur (smart) parable… As 4 me being stupid according to you, ay it doesn’t bother me at all @Lolo, continue ranting abt it…

Do you think all the ppl who embark on service delivery protests are bored or just lazy? They r the ppl who are most affected by the corruption dat u r praising! Remember that govt officials are paid handsomely so there’s no need for them to misuse taxpayers money. Municipalities are used as corruption vehicles & a few ppl who u den call “black middle class” benefit in the process while the masses can only live on hope and you want to come here & praise that?!

I am all for doing business with fellow blacks but I will never accept that corruption cannot be eradicated in dis day & age…

  58. Smang-mang Warona on Wed, 28th Mar 2012 11:32 am

My point is that we continue to harp on about racism when the real war is the class system.

As we black people become more prosperous, we forget about other black people who are still struggling. Our black government is sitting very comfortably where they are, with their taxpayer sponsored lifestyles and those blacks in government have forgotten. The service delivery protests are the poor revolting against the system which has left them impoverished while enriching some. That is the real issue in SA. Not always racism. That is way too simplistic.

  59. Jahara on Wed, 28th Mar 2012 12:03 pm

    Hello JC!

To the afrikaner folk (whose forefathers stole
my language to help sustain their identity while
strippin me of my cultural identity),
To the english folk (initial forerunners of the idea that came to be known as apartheid),
To the elite/ruling black (who should take a good long look at themselves & accept responsibility,& hell,do somethin while they’re at it!),
To the average black person (keep workin hard, u’ll get there one day. For now vote with ur minds, bcoz we all know u never vote but forever moan),
To the coloureds (stop wallowin in the quagmire of your apathy dammit! & stop hatin on people who are willin to work hard & ultimately make it)…

S-H-I-T happened. & we all found ourselves in various disadvantaged states. Nothin can be done to change the past…(yes u heard me,only the future can be changed!) We have inherited this unfortunate legacy and it is our mission to pick up the pieces & move on as best as we can.

Use common sense and show some sensibility to one another!! Errrrr!! We in the same boat and it’d be a colossal facepalm on our part to let things degenerate to a level where SA follows the fate of almost all other African democracies (think war-torn poverty-stricken dictatorship-filled democracies).

I’m proudly SAn and i endeavour to
work to the best of my ability to be
successful, make my community successful and
    ultimately make my country successful.
    Do you? Yes? No? Maybe?

    Im out!!

Question one must ask is our progressing or regression?

    Personal I thinking so.

  62. Jahara on Wed, 28th Mar 2012 12:17 pm

    uhm…
    @softy,u not makin sense

  63. softnfree on Wed, 28th Mar 2012 12:33 pm

Regressing is a verb birthed out of regression!

    Perhaps that’s where I lost u? O_o
More I can’t elaborate bcos if one doesn’t know the differences between the two and their definitions, I fail to succumb enough energy to entertain them.

    JustLazyNjeVandag!

  64. Jahara on Wed, 28th Mar 2012 12:41 pm

lmao…dont worry about the definitions,i got them.

I filled in the missin words & im just curious about ur personal thinkin. U didnt make it clear what u think: are we regressin or progressin? That’s where u lost me.

  65. kamzababy on Wed, 28th Mar 2012 12:52 pm

Lolo, u are telling the truth my dear. there is a business facebook group titled “SA Black Business Society” and that topic was discussed a week ago. it is time we support and give business to our own but only if they deserve and can deliver. obviously there were people who said we black people (that time they also black) are always complaining and blah blah blah. the point is It starts with US. lets support and respect each other and treat our fellow african sisters and brothers like we would like to be treated. you guys must read what ths pink people say about us on the news24 comments section. its sad

That shit is like me telling a goat like you that someone was killed in an accident by a drunk driver, then you because uyimbuzi pipes up and says the dead person was fond of i-Castle Lite… that is idiocy, stupidity, ubudom, nokungahlakaniphi , Mbuzi ndini.

@Loulou do u have ur own audit practice or r u working 4 an audit firm post-articles or are still serving articles?

Ur knocking off time just seems odd for an auditor unless if u have ur own firm or u r a partner @ an audit firm…

Or ke u r serving articles @ a small firm by da side of da road dat has a few clients all of which make an annual turover of less dan a million…

  92. Bohlez on Wed, 28th Mar 2012 3:47 pm

@ Ndesheni maybe Loulou is an Auditor at a Government department,my sis is 1 there and they knock off around this time, so i gues she is packing her staff ready to hit the road.

  98. Biskiti on Wed, 28th Mar 2012 4:15 pm

LouLou is auditing articles lana onJC….kwaaaaaaaa!

Haaayi guys this was such an honest truthful post. We will not have the same opinions about everything, but fact of the matter is that apartheid messed-up the mindset of most of our people, and it all starts in the mind. Not just black people’s minds only but white people’s as well. They need to accept the faults of their forefathers, the effects of those faults and accommodate us or rather walk with us while we accommodate them on the way forward.

As for our people, Most of them still need psychological emancipation. Once that happens, people will realise that having multiple babies for a R300 grant is just not feasible, destroying infrastructure does not fast-track service delivery from government, blindly voting for the ANC over the DA just because they are black will not make the country’s challenges go away, etc. The person with the best plans for our country should be in the driver seat, and all those bastards that keep getting fatter and fatter from corruption money that they steal at tax-payers expense deserve to rot in jail. There is no excuse lapho nje.

  99. Ms.Zie on Wed, 28th Mar 2012 4:22 pm

  100. Bohlez on Wed, 28th Mar 2012 4:26 pm

@ Uthando, accountants are not smart people, they are just good in Accounting and Maths…. that’s all…. hence my English is not on Lolo ‘s level cos i didnt not go to Roeden,
