Star Studded Launch For The Fikile Mbalula Foundation

April 10, 2012 by

Minister of Sports & Recreation, Fikile Mbalula was on FLASH (SABC 3) last Friday where he announced plans for the launch of his foundation, the Fikile Mbalula Foundation. With the foundation, the Minister aims to help disadvantaged young girls and there will be a strong focus on education.
This was not part of the interview but from what I’ve heard, The foundation will be launched in June 2012 and part of the launch includes giving away 10 bursaries worth R100 000 to 10 girls, making that a R1 Million for education.

The minister said that to encourage these girls, he will bring other women who have succeeded against all odds, to come and share their experiences and journeys with the girls. This will be done through workshops to be held in June and there will be local and international stars involved.
He mentioned that Solange Knowles, Zoe Saldana, Kimberly Elise will be here.

About Beyonce, the Minister said that they are in discussions with her about possibly performing at the Sports Awards in September this year. He made it clear that it’s not confirmed and what they are discussing is a full on perfomance, not just 1 or 2 songs but a proper show.

If Beyonce can’t come, we’ll be happy with Chris Brown, Mr Minister :-)

    Great initiative by the Minister.

Love Zoe Saldana. Love Slange’s quirky sense of style. And love Kimberley Elise on screen. It wud be nice to meet these ladies.

Kwaaaa @ pushing for your hubby, BS. Chances are they won’t get Beyonce. She is bloody expensive. But hey, if they have bucket loads of money to throw away like that.

@LadySasha??? Nono Do not be Harsh kaloku babe. Hayi akwenziwa njalo Darling. Lol eish thou that will always be on his back.

This guys will be giving away a Million Rand to people in need. Hunchu Hunchu Hooraah!!!!!

Arrgg i think there is a lot of money here, If he can do us a favour and Give more Bursaries and NOT bring these international personalities then im certain that @LAdySasha will never comment like that again.

There is no Benefit in seeing a Solange,Beyonce or that Zoe Girl. even Mr Brown. Who cares about him (Besides Lelo). Lol

but why does the minister feel the need to bring in people from overseas; i mean there is sooooo many people that could identify with the youth and have been through rough times; Nje this man wants ukudlala

  6. inURdreams on Tue, 10th Apr 2012 7:54 am

honestly I don’t understand why this man is not just ploughing this money back into the economy. I’m sure its obvious to everyone that our artists need it more.he’s intentions are good granted but they are careless.hayi maybe some other factors that I’m not aware of come into play coz I cannot see how the benifit of an International celeb performing at a non-profit event can ever justify the cost.

  7. nana on Tue, 10th Apr 2012 8:43 am

I hope abo Zoe nabo Solange are coming here for free, otherwise its an absolutely waste of money! They should get women from South africa, or Africa as a whole to talk to these girls. People who will share experiences that they can relate to, talk about places that they know. Hai *kanyeshrug*

  25. Lustagp on Tue, 10th Apr 2012 1:44 pm

According to the national Department of Basic Education, last year 496090 pupils sat for the Grade 12 exams. Of these, 348117 passed, but only 84593 qualified to enrol for a bachelor’s degree at university. Only half of those eligible are expected to actually enrol at a tertiary institution. The trade union, Solidarity, expects at least 50% of the class of 2011 to join the ranks of the unemployed in SA, where an estimated 4.3-million citizens aged between 15 and 34 are currently unemployed.

So Biskiti- dont u think the millions tht pays Beyonce and her already wealthy friends cant help our disgruntled youth????

The way my high school principal (fikile attended same school as me :( )used to brag ka Fikile.
As much as I’d like to see Beyonce, but I think honourable* minister has lost the plot, these oversea celebs treat SA celebs with disrespect (side eyes Vivica A Fox) *how I miss Lebo Mathosa*. He wants to be a celebrity now, I think we should expect reality show soon.
