Things That Make Me Go TJO!!

April 23, 2012 by

This Zahara “saga” doesn’t seem to be slowing it… hopefully it will end after the SAMAs.

The latest in this story is the report that the Eastern Cape Sports, Recreation, Arts & Culture MEC Xoliswa Tom is to intervene in Zahara’s family plight. The question on everyone’s lips is what the hell for???
Are there no other pressing matters requiring their attention?

According to a quote in the paper attributed to the MEC & her spokesperson, the parliamentary portfolio committee met with Zahara’s family and will meet with them again today before compiling a report and deciding on how to help but “the department will help.”

I don’t know how true the story is but it made me go TJO!

As expected, Zahara is in the new Move cover as well and the article says that her 2 sisters approached the mag. Her mother is also interviewed and says that Zahara send them R2 000 – R3 000 every month for them to feed the family of 12.

Speaking of Zahara, last week, in our poll we asked whether you believe TS Records is ripping her off and here’s how you voted:

.

There’s also been a lot of talk on Twitter about the “cheeky”tweets from Zahara’s Twitter account lately and whether or not it is her tweeting and my personal assessment is that someone is doing it for her.

Back to the topic : TJO At this government department…

TS Records isn’t any different from other record companies out there. It’s run by polite sharks I tell you. When Zahara came into the seen the company was running in the red financially. Nhlanhla alone wasn’t covering the bills. PRO left the moment he realised that they were killing him w/ their strategies just a tad too late. PRO now isn’t as big as he was before joining TS.

Zahara’s success came just in time to save TS Records from going bankrupt / liquidation. Her million are now being used to settle major debts from lawsuits, company overheads, to impulsive expenditure. TS Records biggest fear is losing Zahara to other Independents or Majors as she’s currently their only source of manna. That’s why they’re doing all in their power to manipulate her emotionally, psychologically, and physically by playing big-brother through their seemingly kind gestures.

TS Records is also killing Nhlanhla’s career too in slow terms. Her star started to wane the moment she joined TS. The biggest challenge w/ TS is handling multiple artists and giving them the attention thay they deserve individually to achieve success as no one artist can be treated the same as the other. They’re unique and deserve personalised care. TS Records falters at this dynamic. I have spoken for now. I’ll surely be back.

My claim to fame: I walk among the powerful and influential. I bathe w/ the very best French Cognac and my Fortress is built on your vain desires. I run GossipVille.

Im staring to have a problem or to not like her family. Just because Zahara is make millions does mean she has to give a share to the Family.

Zahara owes them NIX. They need to calm their Punaniz down.

What if she gives them a R1000? At least she is giving them Something. Ay lomama and sisters ud swear are the ones singing and being used.

Eish but ke we shall wait and see. Im certain we will hear Iqiniso very soon.

  4. IamMissHope on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 2:36 am

My question is How much were they expecting her to send them every month? Isn’t 3thousand enough? Bathong. mus SHE’S sending every month. Maybe they wanted a lump-sum. Some people are greedy i tell ya.

  5. Nerlee on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 3:48 am

MEC —> PRIORITIZE tuuuuuuu, are they gonna do this for every family with members in the music industry from EC???????

Wonder what were they eating kuloSpinach before she came to JHB.

  6. RexonaABC on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 5:55 am

Tjo! 2-3 thousand a month is not nothing especially when one did not sweat for it, I wonder if her sisters afford to send their parents that amount of money every month.

  7. Babyluv on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 6:52 am

Bt zaharas sistaz r twats yazi. Hw much do they send to their parents? The E.C government is a bunch of moegoes. Theyve gt major problems lyk education, infrastructure etc.

  8. sxylin on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 6:55 am

Lol @ the refferal of 2000 fora family of 12; is she supposed to give them 2grand each! Some Families though

  9. BlindFold on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 7:13 am

    Dumelang.

ok now the family is pushing it too much, they are complaining ka R3000.00 for a family of 12, whose family is that? does Zahara even have a child among that 12??

  10. RexonaABC on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 7:21 am

@BlindFold, you took words out of my mouth, about Zahara having a child. I hope dont’ start enrolling their kids ar private school because now their sibling is a millionaire.

  11. Leungo on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 8:22 am

I agree with X-Fuktor. By the time Zahara moves out of that house, she will be penniless.

Anyway, I think a lot of people are missing the point here, this is not about how much Zahara is giving to the family, it’s about how she is being treated by the stable.

Why are they making her so dependent on them? They want to ensure that she still has this “dankie baas” mentality and never thinks of leaving them. They will only release their clutches on her when she is no longer as big as she is.

I am so glad the sisters spoke out, it’s good to see that at least they have her back. Any sane person would want to know why their sister, if she is worth a million, is still squatting at the boss’s house. Kanti ene does she not deserve her privacy? Why is TS taking that away from her?

Forget big fancy cars and a mansion, Zahara needs a two bedroom place where she can undwind and be with her thoughts after a hard day at work.

  12. Ntombi Yomzulu on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 8:24 am

But Guys I think 2-3grand is enough though kanti bafunani kulelikhaya….sebeyagulake manje bengibakhulumela last week kodwa manje badakwe iWoonga hah….

  13. Vesa on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 8:27 am

This story really made me go tjo le nna!

Why is the Gov stepping in when there are no problems? TS Records was on a blitz last week Monday going to all Radio stations they could go to, to set the record straight. Now they are meeting with the EC Gov to sort out issues? Tjo

My take wrt the family is that like all other families who are not informed of the ins and outs of the music industry, they are thinking that monies from Zahara’s concert performances and cd sales all come to her. Someone should’ve rather informed them of how the whole thing work, so that they begin to have realistic expectations. It’s just like parent who sees their children on tv……and assumes that they are making a killing from that kante chelete ga e kalo kalo!

  14. X-FUCKTOR™ on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 8:32 am

The problem w/ most black families is their sense of entitlement to a piece of their child’s / sibling’s success. The moment things go well for you, they family starts crawling out from whatever hole they were living in. Black families should let their successful members choose how they want to help not the other way around. It even get’s to the point where you are made to feel guilty for being successful. It sometimes hurts to be successful.

  15. Ntombi Yomzulu on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 8:52 am

Guys I have one question, kaZahara before abe wumculi how were they surviving? Is the Gov stepping in because bayahlupheka balala bengadlile? Le ye Gov. angiyi-Understand(i) nje nakancane

  16. Leungo on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 8:54 am

Her mother is also interviewed and says that Zahara send them R2 000 – R3 000 every month for them to feed the family of 12.

This could be construed in different ways I see. When I saw this, it came across us just saying that Zahara does help the family and sends them money month.
But I see some people saw it as a complaint from the family. Anyway , I did not read the story, only what I got from JC so those that read it, did at some point the mother say the R2 000- R3 000 that Zahara sends was not enough?

  17. Vesa on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 8:59 am

And what made me go tjo even more were the tweets coming from Zahara. I can bet you it wasn’t her tweeting yesterday

  18. gossipgirl on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 9:01 am

This is rubish of all the households in EC ba ba senang roof over their heads, food on the table, crumbling education system and then the portfolio committee e bona gole mosola to take money and support a family e tefang? Zahara’s sisters r working like any normal household they can afford a bread, bupi le braai pack. i dont c Y the government e di tsena struuuuuu.

  19. Leungo on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 9:04 am

@Ntombi Yomzulu: Maybe they are trying to help ensure that Zahara gets her dues. I don’t think they are helping financilly, maybe just giving advice such as getting an accontant etc.

At the end of the day, she needs to get the info that will help her safeguard her millions so that in the future she does not find herself owing the tax man millions. I wonder if TS peopel informed her of such or whetehr they have already paid her taxes. Another thing is whether Sbu gave Zahara some royalties out of her song that he remixed.

If the govt does step in, Zahara will be like many of our singers who die paupers although they used to be rich. Yvonne ChakaChaka does not have the best voice but she was surrounded by intelligent people who helped her make the right decisions and today her star continues to shine.

That’s what Zahara needs. In a few years when she is busy negotiating her own contracts and rolling in cash, she will tank her sister for having the voice that she herself never had.

  20. Vesa on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 9:09 am

@Leungo….they never said that the money was too little. It was just a mention of how much she sends home.

  21. Shera on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 9:26 am

Black ppl hv this tendency of expecting you to look after your family if/when ur making money…thats y our white counterparts are waaay ahead of us bcz si-busy sending indodla yemali back home…instead of ufunde, get your own crib or getting yourself a car…*its sad*…
You should ONLY help out WHEN or IF u can afford!!! Its not your responsibility to look after your siblings!!!…KANTI BAZALWE UBAN’????

I’m so over this Zahara saga tho…CAN IT COME TO AN END ALREADY!!!!…they need any government intervention…ukhona uZahara mos!!!!

  22. Shera on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 9:51 am

THEY DON’T NEED government intervention…ukhona uZahara mos!!!

  23. Lela on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 10:02 am

LOL, wonder shall never end o!

  24. Cutie on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 10:07 am

People are missing the point here. Zahara’s family is no complaining about the 2-3 grand she’s giving them at all. The issue is her being ripped off by TS Records and that is why the Government is intervening

The Government has every damn right to intervene. When there is a dispute between employer and employee CCMA intervenes. This i sthe department of Arts and Culture fotte and they are looking after their artists. Music is part of Arts and Culture.

People must stop being hypocrites here. When Ntsiki Mazwai wrote an article about starving artists everyone agreed with her. And now that Government is doing such people are complaining

  25. Leungo on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 10:20 am

    Thanks Cutie.

I thought I had read the article wrong. People are going on and on as if Zahara’s family complained about the money they were being given.

And the very same people complaining about the EC govt stepping in would be the same ones complaining tomorrow if Zahara dies a pauper or goes back home peniless and without a contract. They will blame the govt for being aware of the stories that circulated all over the media but turning a blind eye to it.

Lastly, @Shera, our white counterparts don’t have to do zilch because most of them come from ok families and not shacks or houses that could still be better. Any self respecting person would want to ensure that his or her parent’s'lives become better when he or she gets a job and some betternyana salary.

At the end of the day, if you prefer not to help your family, o expecta mang a ba thuse? When you fall in Joburg and go back home to recurperate, it wont be your Joburg friends giving you a bath and cooking for you or helping you take care of your chilren, it will be your family.

  26. Babyluv on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 10:30 am

I bet u half of that 12 is the children of her sistaz. The gov isnt intervening btwn Zahara n TS, they are going 2 take a luk @ the mkutukana homestead n see where they cn assist. Whch confuses me bcz there are poorer families, skuls with no proper facilities, bad healthcare services and the list goes on bt they choose to helpful a family tht cn take care of itself. SMH

  27. Plastic on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 10:34 am

@Luengo, please refer to last week’s sunday world re: the family complaints, its all there.
they even claimed that Zahara asks for airtime money from her mother. hence we assume this is also a complaint.

    thank you

  28. Leungo on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 10:39 am

    @Plastic

That’s why I said I did not read the story, only what JC is reporting and nowhere in the report is the family said to be complaining.

If they are complaining, well then that’s tough. The money they are being given is a lot and they should really be grateful for that.

But ke, who knows what Sbu promised the parents seeing that they always have meetings with them?

  29. muntuza on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 10:42 am

Bathong death by Dj Hips tweeting from Zahara’s account maabane!! I was there seeing Zahara fire shots at her followers, thinking wow finally humble, polite rural girl is standing her ground kanti ke Sbu -_____- Gave his lame ass away when he said “Where were these people when i was busy HAMBARING with my guitar in the EC” Booooooom!!! Vandal language crept up and exposed his stunt. Senke ke fele so ka ditshego LMFAO! And then people wonder why we suspect she’s being bullied. Why The hell was he tweeting on her account pretending to be Spinach? SMDH

  30. Leungo on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 10:43 am

    @Plastic

I do not have the copy, are they complaining about the R2 000 0r R3 000 they get or the fact that Zahara does not have money and even has to ask for airtime from their mother?

I am more interestes in whether the complaint stems from the money Zahara gives them every month.

  31. Mathaz on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 11:02 am

I come from a family of girls n we r seriouslly close. It could be that the sisters are noticing alien behaviour from Zahara and are wondering what could be amiss with her.She should close her twitter account until all this dies down.I am for independence n learning. She needs to get herself a bachelor pad n know how to pay rent or bond. What is the use of being a millionaire n not acquiring assets?I still maintain that she needs to know how it is like to make mistakes in life, experience is the best teacher.

  32. Monei on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 11:21 am

@leungo, They aren’t complaining. the mother was saying that must be clear Zahara does send them that money for groceries every month and she is grateful for it. she is just concerned for the growth/indepedence of her daughter.

  33. RexonaABC on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 11:23 am

@Muntuza, tjo, could it mean that DJ has access to Zahara s twitter account? Then that sounds scary, and fishy. aooooooo poor Spinach!

  34. Biskiti on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 11:25 am

Quick, stupid question, why is Zahara being called Spinach?

Hei, ya this story is still in it’s teenage years, far from dying shem.

  35. Monei on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 11:28 am

@leungo, i meant the mother isnt complaining abt the R2k-R3k. in the move article the family is raising what they see as red flags since they cnt understand that mzanzi’s top selling artist seems to be living hand to mouth, eg she still asks for airtime money frm them.

i hear what they r saying. its just the self-interest stuff that annoys me. but it still raises important issues.

@BS, Move magazine says relatives called them to tell them. it didnt say the sisters.so moved called the fam to talk abt those allegations and the family was surprised word had gotten round so fast but admitted the allegations were true.Sunday World sticks to their guns and says they weren’t writing made up stuff and went on to paint a picture of a controlled Zahara. they also said when they went to take pics and talk to the fam, neighbours were watching etc and they mustve alerted the weekly magazine coz it came soon after them.

  36. Monei on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 11:29 am

@biskiti, its her nickname frm growing up times coz she loved spinach. it doesnt sound cool so they came up with another name as her stage name.

  37. Biskiti on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 11:40 am

  46. BGT on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 1:34 pm

Following on from X-Fuctor’s post, TS Records don’t strike me as the kind of company that has ANY real interest in actually fostering and nurturing young talent. It seems like their immediate and sole concern is cashing cheques. Of course there is nothing wrong with a business being driven to make money but in the absence of any kind of meaningful and properly considered base of operation there is no way they or their artists/clients will enjoy any kind of sustainable success or longevity.

This is why they’re such a one hit wonder factory. As a label they have no foresight beyond the money in the pockets at that very minute. If she wants to enjoy a long and fruitful career in the music industry, Zahara should take her music and talent elsewhere. Sbu and TK don’t have a fucking clue. They’re glorified used car salesmen.

  47. Vesa on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 2:08 pm

Cutie….you got it all wrong. The Gov is not intervening because Zahara is being ripped off. They are intervening because of the plight of the family. They want to assess their living situation and help where they can. So this is clearly not Gov mandate…..they are not Dept of Social Services. They are not inervening between Zahara & TS Records. This is why we are suprised.

  48. lolo on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 2:13 pm

@BGT seconded comrade! Second hand car salesmen indeed! If anyone in South Africa believes that Zahara is receiving all the monies due to her from TS records then that person has an unshakable faith in human goodness shem. I believe Zahara’s sisters went to the press because they were concerned that their sibling is being taken for a ride. I believe that their concern isnot so much that they ( the sisters) are not reaping the rewards of Zahara’s success, I think they are worried that Zahara is not reaping the rewards of her own success. I believe that is Zahara was living it up in JHB, if her lifestyle was reflective of her phenomenal success then they would be satisfied. My current boss gave me my first job. I am immensely grateful to her, but I really do not think I should demonstrate my gratitude by living with my boss and letting her handle my finances and my Twitter account!

    Lol @Smang-mang.

Noticed how the SW is normally attacked here, their journalists called names, people talking about how the paper is fabricating their stories but that normally happens if it’s the favorite celebrities that are exposed for one thing of ther other?

I can’t think of how many times on a Monday the SW’credibility is always questioned here yet they are continually qouted. Can we just accept that SW understands the business of entertainment news because they give us that without fail every Sunday. Shine Sunday World Shine!!

Poor Sunday World, always blasted here for just doing their job. But we know that some bloggers here have a deep-seated hatred for the paper and look down on their journalists so they will probably never acknowledge the good work they are doing.

Anyway, guys,I am so happy that Zahara will now get the help she deserves shem. Somehow she does not strike me as the street wise type like Siphokazi.

  59. Lela on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 4:22 pm

Ukudliwa is part of the game hle but Zahara staying with Ncizas and not having a car has nothing with ukudliwa kwakhe yi TS mina that’s all I’m saying. As for Sunday World, I always say this, they don’t fabricate stories, they sensationalise.

  60. Bohlez on Mon, 23rd Apr 2012 5:26 pm

@Leungo darling do you work for SW or wish to work for e’m one day, they way you are praising them…tjo, but SW has a tendency of exegerating stories nje….like that of Sophie’s hubby, nigga surely has a past, but they made it sound like he did all those things like yesterday, that’s where my problem is.
