No! We haven’t forgotten!

Sunday World published an apology to Gareth Cliff  (didn’t check if there was one to the readers too) on their story alleging that he was dating and had impregnated a black chick. The story blamed their “source” who happens to be the same girl, Miemie, saying they were fed a pack of lies…

We won’t go into the “how did the story make it to the front page” but what caught my attention is how the journalist responsible, went on a Twitter tirade attacking Kuli Roberts for questioning his rubbish of a story.

He made some pretty shocking claims and allegations about Kuli and his bosses and it will be interesting to see if he continues to work at Sunday World after this. The journalist is Mduduzi Dlamini, he;’s the same journo who was klapped by Arthur Mafokate in 2003 and recently he’s been responsble for the Zahara family story and the Sophie Ndaba Bishop drama.

After Gareth tweeted that the Sunday World story was rubbish, I tweeted Mduduzi asking if he had any comment on Gareth’s tweet… he went on and on about how he does not defend his work on Twitter. I told him that was strange considering that the Sunday before, he was all too willing to volunteer information about how he spent hours with Sophie Ndaba and her Bishop, and had no issues defending his Sophie article. He then opened up about and said Gareth knows he knows the truth, and was asking me to ask Gareth where he was at on such and such a date… He’s since deleted those tweets.

Anyway, it turns out I wasn’t the only one who tweeted about that Gareth story, Kuli Roberts and other tweeps did… and in Mduduzi’s eyes, Kuli SHOULD NOT HAVE!.

When we were making noise about media freedom and the media tribunal, did we talk about what internal controls our media would implement to prevent fake stories like the Gareth Cliff one?

So, who are these Sunday World bosses that Mduduzi says Kuli had affairs with? Can we see them on the Front Page this Sunday? Just Curious.

    Wow, zaphuma izindaba ngempele.

    Kuli wa batho, I wonder how she feels like now. But it’s a well know thing in the industry that Kuli is nothing to write home about when it comes to this industry.
    She herself said she was given the editorship of Pace when she had no experience but was later fired because she was useless it. Makes one wonder why someone who knew nothing like her would be given such a huge responsibility of editing a magazine.

    And she went to Sunday World. At the beginning she was entertaining, but after a while her lack of creativity and knowledge of basic media ethics made many wonder what she was doing there and we all know how that ended.

    So, it seems as if there are many secrets in the closet and this Mduduzi guy is not shy about dishing them, tjooooo!!

    I agree with you. Someone probably wants to see him down hence they did that which makes you wonder about the mentality of some people.
    Anyway, Mduduzi seems to be a great investigative journalist and he will bounce from this. The paper also apologised to Gareth and all seems to be cool.

    What seems to be more interesting, is the fight between him and Kuli and I can’t wait to see how that will end. After all, they used to work together and know things that many of us don’t.
    It also seems like there’s no love lost between them, I wonder what happened.

    when you are pissed at someone its easy to fabricate stories; Mduduzi could be lying also – and knows that we wil believe him since he worked with Kuli.

    Lelo says she tweeted Mdu and ASKED… Kuli did not ask she accused Mduduzi of lying and she did that on twitter. Mduduzi responded using the same platform making allegations about Kuli (not Gareth this time), what is stopping Kuli from telling him that he is lying?

    I don’t understand why people are saying Mdu is low when he demonstrates his disapproval of being called a liar, those are very serious allegation especially for someone who does the kind of job he does. It can ruin his career and I say big ups for him being a man by finding a good strategy to stop someone from ruining his reputation

Point is there is fact and there is fiction and fact is Mduduzi has more skeletons than Kuli and he is a LIAR I’m sure the Gareth story is proof of that. This si not the first time he’s fabricated a story. Kuli has moved on with her life and is doing very well for herself more well than Mdu will ever do.Just for the record, addiction and having sex does not count as skeletons, he must try harder so he can be more believable this time.     Lela was hurt the other day when people criticised her looks the day she posted pictures of herself with the “I want to sing Gospel” winner yet here she is today, calling Mduduzi a monkey. I wonder what those that were defending her that day and rebuking the person critisizing have to day about this.

    Anyway, I applaud Mduduzi for taking Kuli head-on. I am a firm believer in that if you can dish it, you should be able to take it too. Kuli saw it fit to call Mduduzi a liar on a public platform and Mduduzi retaliated the same way.

    There is absolutely nothing low about that, he taught Kuli a lesson she will never forget. There was nothing stopping her from smsing Mduduzi but she saw it fit to go public and unfortunately for her, she was served in the very same way.

    And we have her stans now defending her alleged drug use and alleged “sleeping her way to the top” stunts. Why? Is it because it’s her? Would you still feel the same way if the allegations were made against your least favorite people such as Bonang and Nonhle?

    I actually did media studies 1st & 2nd year & it kinda scared me to think ukuthi I’d have to find/fabricate/dig on concrete for stories. I dropeed it, I’m glad I did because as hard as it is for someone like myself to even ask people questions about things they don’t wanna talk about, I jus don’t think it’s cool making up vicious stories about people. I’m studying something else now & it’s challenging but I love it.
    This Mdu person has given sunday world a bad name, in that now I know when I pick up that paper, it’s just for laughs. All/most of the stories written there are untrue, he must just accept ukuthi he made his bed & now he needs to lie in it.#TeamKuli!

    But in Mduduzi’s defence, really how on earth do you verify personal stories like that though????In terms of journalism rules..We know that one of the fundamental premises in journalism is to protect the identity of sources right. So if as a journalist I am approached by some random girl who claims to have been impregnated by a famous person, mna as a journalist ndicheka njani? Its not like Mdududzi can go back to the night of the conception and check that it is indeed Gareth’s sperm that has located the girls ovary…Lets bear in mind that this is a tabloid paper, so if you go to Gareth and say to him such and such claims that ummithisile, it is unlikely that Gareth would then whip out a video documentiong the conception and say, Oh here is is , The girl is indeed telling the truth!

    At the same time if Gareth then denies ever having met the chick , do you then stop printing the story, so whose word do you take? in the absence of conclusive evidence for either side,

    And also let us remember that a denial does not equate innocence…Especially in cases apho abantu have slept with each other…Remember Bill Clinton saying on International television and I quote ” I never had sexual relations with that woman…. This is him referring to Monica Lewisnky…Was the President’s denial enough to stop the papers from printing the story? Closer to home remember Kenny Kunene saying he slept with some litle half Italian chikita, her name escapes me… He said he did, she said she did NOT so who the hell do you believe as a journalist!

    As if being an entertainment journalist isn’t hard enough, now this drama on twitter? Was there a need for him to tarnish Kuli’s name?

    I don’t read SW unless there’s a hot story. But this thing about Mduduzi, he’s been slapped, bitten by dogs and thrown out of parties- one could say he’s a great “invesigative” ( I use the word VERY loosely, thanks to 3rd Degree) gossip journalist, or he’s gotten the story wrong on many occassions and instead of taking him to the press ombudsman, the affected parties ‘took action into their hands.

    I think he was the guy who recently wrote the Zanele Mbokazi stories? Those stories, or rather rumours, were old and actually it seemed like a witch hunt. As much as I am not a fan of Zanele, those stories took a very personal angle, seemed like an attack on her integrity, which isn’t what journalism is about.

    Colleagues, we have a threat from government with the Media Tribunal and we need to stop with the lies and start reporting the truth, no matter how lame and boring the story is for your readers. FACTS!

    There is a crucial word there, the word is ABSENCE, this word means a state of NOT being present, this is in reference to evidence, for either side. So the SMS’s that you speak of would point to a PRESENCE of evidence!

    Myquestion still is, how does a journalist verify a story when the accuser, and the defendant are both without evidence! So does a journalist ten refuse to print the story in a “He said she said ” type situation?

Are you saying that if a journalist hears of this , that he must not print the story? Cause according to you there is not story? That is NO evidence and NO confession?

    I agree with that statement. You can’t go to print unless you have evidence. It doesn’t have to be confirmation from the people in question because yes they will never own up. There’s gotta be proof!

    Can you imagine the stories that people would make up if they knew no evidence was needed before a story goes to print?

    I mean even Daily Sun and their tokoloshe stories always have proof! Whether it be the tokoloshe itself or an eyewitness BUT there’s always proof.

    Can you imagine the lawsuits print publications would be served with if stories were printed without a shred of evidence?
