PICS: The Vodacom Durban July Experience

I had never been to the Durban July before so the invitation from Total Exposure was met with a lot of excitement. More so because in it, Vodacom was promising us a taste of the High life and I was curious to see what they meant. Luckily we did not even have to leave Joburg before we got a taste of what that meant.

Before we left, Vodacom delivered the most amazing goodie bags, with us and our partners receiving cool gifts that included a brand new Blackberry, Lancome fragrances, beauty products, Emerald hotel, SOHO Spa vouchers and other goodies. Now, how’s that for building excitement?! By the time we left, I was already getting annoyed at anyone on Twitter who was calling Vodacom names for network issues. heheh. Thank you Voda.

On arrival at King Shaka international airport on Friday before the big day, we were whisked off to Southern Sun Elangeni where we received our tags and everything we needed for the next day. We had time to freshen up, have dinner before being driven to Club Empyre for another VIP Vodacom clubbing experience.

The fresh, young ones went out to party but I know myself, first of all I always feel lost in a club, secondly if I had gone out on Friday night, I would not have been able to be out all day/night the next day and the day of the race was the most important event so I stayed in. Much to the disappointment of my friends but shem, they had to be strong.

The big day, Saturday, 07 July 2012 came, there was buzz and excitement all over as people got ready to spend the day at Greyville Racecourse. I was looking forward to seeing crazy, wild and outrageous outfits but I was a little disappointed.

You should be tired of my long story by now so let’s get to the most important part of the race, the fashion!

Before we get there… congratulations to this horse, apparently it won.

I didn’t see a race, nor a horse while there and I bet I’m not the only one. I had access to the Vodacom Paddock as well as the MTV/Lifestyle Oasis so my pictures will be from those two, even though I did get some from the Celebs that were at the SABC marquee. As usual, I’m not a fashion critic so I put up the pics and you guys will decide whether you like them or not.

First up, here are the celebrities who were at the Vodacom Durban July and I’ll start with pictures we got from Twitter.

Minnie Dlamini was celebrating her 22nd birthday on the day. Her brown number seemed to be a favourite.

Me and my date, Melissa. Everyone went all serious and I stepped out of my box, picked up confidence and rocked this David Tlale Couture number. I was nervous but as soon as I tried it on, I didn’t wanna take it off… felt really good in it.

And it seems the boss approved. Thank you David!

My favourite outfit must be this Gideon design worn by Jo-Ann Strauss. I think it’s absolutely gorgeous, so Durban July!

Carol Tshabalala was also there.

Also spotted were Francois Hougaard, Chilliboy Ralepele, Wynand Olivier and Akona Dungane.

I don’t know who this lady is but we loved her outfit.

YFM’s Tumi Voster looked elegant.

Former Miss SA Tatum Keshwar wore a dress by a Durban designer. She’s originally from Durban.

Claire Mawisa was dressed by her friend and former SABC 1 presenter, Felicity Shiba.

Red seemed to be a popular colour on the day

Isidingo actor, Motlatsi Mafatshe also opted for red.

So did Just Curious blogger, Mablerh, who dragged me to some fashion competition at the Lifestyle Oasis village. We came second, akufani.

Pearl Thusi chose this striped dress. I love this woman’s hair.

I liked Mbali Mlotshwa’s dress. Excuse the bad picture quality.

In closing, I think it’s safe to say we had an amazing time at the Durban July, a big thank you to Total Exposure for the professionalism and a well organised weekend, and of course Vodacom for making it all possible. My first time was good enough for me to say I’d love to go experience this again.

    I honestly don’t know what to say nor where to start about Luthando’s outfit it was just too simple for a public figure like her, Gert please don’t go wilder when you’re designing for Bonang only.

    Mika’s what what is just a story for another day, my heart sank a little when BS twitpic’d that outfit. I was like He bathong is Mika serious LOL!

    I was blown away by Lelo’s piece, it was stunning and her skin complexion complimented the outfit she went wilder I still don’t know what the theme was but I think she went far beyond it.

    Thank you for the pics BS, you looked good, also like Jennie D, Noni Gasa and the lady in a black dress like yours without a name. Tumi, Poppy and Latoya’s dresses are lovely but not for a Durban July but something like Fikile’s foundation launch and the likes.

    Carol’s dress o kae Cabbage mani, is like she got it from Madea’s closet. Gert O dlala ka Dineo, what the hell is she wearing? Hai suka. Mika should stop with his attention seeking nonsense, really magazines and plastics, o batla matches ba mo lighte.

    My absolute best is Minnie Dlamini. Although I don’t quite understand that situation (haha sityuweyshin) on her head, maybe it’s just my phone. Anyway, she’s followed by Jo-Ann Strauss, I love her dress.

    I adore Claire Mawisa, and although there’s nothing special about her outfit, it’s something I’d completely rock. I luuuuurve that skirt. She’s been uber quiet on twitter, totally templesome, lol.

    Carol Tshabalala’s dress is disturbing, my absolute worst, followed by Luthando’s. Luthando, kahle kahle is at 1st place for worst dressed,but she’s a child, new to the industry even. But Carol has no excuse for looking like an avo, lime milkshake and sparletta creamsoda puke emdala so.
    Dineo Moeketsi’s dress is not neccessairly oogly in my eyes, I just have a serious problem with anything that resembles a tutu.

    General view is, the fashion wasn’t that wow. A few mistakes(Tumi Fosta style) made it to the run way. It seems the real theme was: ‘who could getaway w/ the most mistakes.’

    I think the theme was Its a Material World- emphasis on going green. Some people (cough Carol Manana) took that literally, like I MUST WEAR GREEN!! Eish darkies, smh…
    Lelo looked amazingly HAUTE! Like, perfect! Although I think gold accessories/ accents would have made the look better. But she still killed it!
    Azanias dress was pretty, so was Nonis. Likes the newspaper guys suit. Goes with the theme and sits well on him.
    I think Dineo Is too bottom heavy to wear a dress with that much volume ezansi. Claire looked bleh.
    The less said about that Tumi Voster the better. Girl doesn’t have an single original bone in her body, I agree with Sxlin. Monkey see, monkey do. I guess its always the ones without a real sense of style who do that.
