The Steve Hofmeyr Roast Should Be Fun
The fact that Steve Hofmeyr is the first ever “African ” to be roasted on Comedy Central Roast should spark some level of controversy and I have a suspicion that we will be off to a good start.
Comedy Central Roasts are standout TV comedy events filmed in front of a live audience. Each Roast features a “Roastmaster” who presides over the event and introduces the guests (or “Roasters”), who dish out good-natured insults and hilarious tributes to the Roastee. The Roastee also joins in the fun, meets old friends, gets the chance to refute his critics and rounds up the show with a final closing statement.
In kasi terms it is ukulanzana coz you just stand there while people throw jabs at you. I reckon, the more colourful your past, the more interesting the roasts.
Can you imagine the things someone like Loyiso Gola would say in such a thing! I don’t know how these Roastees do it.. this is the ultimate test of a tough skin.
The Stever Hofmeyr Roast will be recorded at The Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City, Johannesburg on 11 September 2012 in front of a live audience and will be televised on Comedy Central, Monday 24 September 2012. Information about tickets to be at the recording is not yet availalble. Let you know when you know.
If I had to throw in names for people they should invite, I’d add the usual suspects:
- Khanyi Mbau
- Julius Malema
- Bafana Bafana
and maybe my boy Tbo Touch lol.
A lot of the Stever Hofmeyr roasting would be a lot about his many kids and racism and racism, I wanna see it.
So if you had to roast this guy, what would you roast about him and which other celebs would you like to see on such a show?
