The PSL Kick Off
August 15, 2012 by Nomfundo Setshedi
The Olympic torch has been extinguished signifying an end to the Olympics along with the associated delight and excitement. Team South Africa returns with 6 medals: 3 gold, 2 silver and a bronze, a much improved performance from the 2008 Beijing Olympics where we only mustered a single silver medal.
London 2012 has been South Africa’s most successful post-apartheid Games, at number 23 South Africa has the highest Medal tally in Africa , the United states top the Medal table with 104 medals followed by China with 88 medals.
Moving on to more heartening news. This past weekend saw the kick-off of the ABSA Premiership, this provided much relief to many like myself who were already suffering from withdrawal symptoms.
Orlando Pirates started off the defence of their league title with a 2-1 win against Golden Arrrows.
Moroka Swallows last season’s runners up probably still reeling from the losing of their coach Gordon Igesund to the National team suffered a surprising 3-1 defeat to Platinum Stars.
.
The might Amakhosi on the other hand are back to their winning ways having defeated Amazulu 6-0 at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.
After being eliminated from the MTN 8 by Mamelodi Sundowns last week this is a long awaited return to form for the Soweto giants, I hope the winning streak is here to stay with Striker Bernard Parker having finally located his scoring boots netting 4 goals in the match this will bring about much needed reprieve to the long suffering Kaizer Chiefs fans.
The following are the results from other PSL matches that took place this weekend:
I know I’m not the only one excited about the return of the PSL…
