Zimbabwe GALZ Raid

August 14, 2012 by

It’s no secret that most African countries don’t really get this homosexuality thing. In Mauritania, Sudan, and northern Nigeria, homosexuality is punishable by death. In Uganda, offenders can receive life imprisonment for homosexual acts. South Africa and Canary Islands are the only 2 African countries with liberal attitudes toward gays and lesbians, with constitutions which guarantee gay and lesbian rights, and legal same-sex marriage.

Zimbabwe, just like the rest of the other African countries, is not trying to hear all these stories to guarantee gay rights.
How do I know all of this?

Well…GALZ (Gays And Lesbians of Zimbabwe) were preparing for the launch of a report on abuse against gays and lesbians in Zimbabwe at their headquarters in Harare on Saturday.
Now as you could have guessed…there is no way that Mugabe could let that happen, so he sent his police to bash and detain the 44 GALZ activists.
I’m talking baton sticks, kicks and punches thrown all over the G?a?y?s? GALZ, before they were taken to Harare central police station where they were held before being released without charges on Sunday.

However, Police spokesman James Sabau denied that the activists had been arrested. He said they were there for “screening”. To think that we are expected to believe that *sigh*.

The 88-year-old tyrant, Mugabe, used a speech at his birthday party earlier on the year to urge Zimbabweans to shun Western values and homosexuality.
His comments came after Mr Cameron last year warned that Britain could withdraw aid from developing countries which failed to protect gay rights. And frankly, he couldn’t be bothered, as he responded: ”To hell with you.”

Furthermore, he brands gays as ”worse than dogs and pigs.”

He definitely doesn’t shy away from throwing shade at the poor GALZ. They should come to SA, we’ll gladly accept them…plus, there’s Pride coming up in a few months right? #NoHomo

No! We have enough, thank you very much. As for Mugabe, this guy is either heartless, crazy, too aroogant, stupid or he really is just sticking to his beliefs. I personally cannot, knowing Mugabe, expect him to allow such!

    “we have enough” hahahaha
In your eyes and the West he’s a tyrant to (some of) his people he’s still a hero. Let GALZ fight their own battles, they will if they are determined to.

Department of Justice is looking for all pending cases for crimes perpetrated against LGBTI people (lesbian, gay, bisexual…) . If you know of any case that was reported to SAPS, let me know. DoJ wants to follow up on all the cases and finalize them

Sifiso I don’t think it is safe to say that GALZ must come SA. Recently the house of traditional leaders made an application in parliament that the words ” sexual orientation” must be removed from section 9 of the constitution. We have gays and lesbians killed elokshini, we don’t are not well educated on this matter ourselves and currently RSA is not a safe place to come to.
