My BMW Polo Experience

September 1, 2012 by

Delayed as it may be, it would be a huge mistake not to blog my experience at the BMW Polo, it was just too good a day.

BMW contacted me and 3 other bloggers to run the #BMWTakeMeToThePolo Competition where our twitter followers had to tell us why they deserved to go with us to the POLO. The prize included not only a VIP experience at the Polo but our winners would also be driven to the event by BMW.

After lots and lots of entries, I chose my winner based on the following entry:

It was just too cute I had to choose it… The lucky winner was Yelanda, who attended with Vuyi as her date.

.

A week before the event BMW treated us by taking me and the girls to Hyde Park Corner to look for what we would wear to the BMW International Polo Series.

Misha Coetzee selected her outfit from Country Road, Kirsty Bisset from Lui Jo, and I got mine from Hip Hop. We then ended the day with a light supper at Life restaurant.

Milli (left) wore something from her shop, check out her blog HERE.

Kirsty with her date.

Remember my blog about What Her Boyfriend Wore?

Well, this is the couple!

With my date Melissa, my winner and her date.

oh and yes, there was a game of POLO

South Africa was playing against India, we won but I can’t remember the score. I actually decided I don’t like POLO it’s not the kind of game I would pay money to go watch… This was during the singing of the two countries’ national anthem. Hayi the Indian anthem… lemme not say anything.

I didn’take pictures really, I was there to just have fun but some of the celebs I spotted included Roland Schoeman and Gerry Rantseli who wore a dress 2 decades young. I was disappointed. Pearl Thusi was there, she looked really good, the girl has gorgeous legs.

The highlight of my day was DEFINITELY meeting Wendy Luhabe, one of my favourite people in the world. You should have seen my excitement when I spotted her and hubby Mbazima Shilowa arriving. I finally managed to get my groupie moment, and was even more chuffed when she remembered me from an email conversation a few months ago. She even made me take off the shades so she could see my face, really awesome woman… now I wait for my moment with Khanyi Dhlomo and I can die in peace.

I also got to pose with our glory boy, Olympic Gold medalist Chad Le Clos, who must be one of the sweetest people in the world.

It was a Sports event so the Minister, Mbaks on Mbaks was there.

Clearly Touch and the minister have the same stylist

Posing in the photo booth

Stylist Nthato Mashishi was also there

Clowning around with the Xhosanotra, Sandile Nqayi and Zandile Nkonyeni from SABC 2 and Vista Kalipa on the right.

Showing off our dresses

Yes, King Somizi was there too.

This couple won Best Dressed and took home a R20 000 Hyde Park shopping voucher.

Thank you to BMW SA for a well organised and classy day of luxury and another thank you for not inviting the usual faces we see everywhere.. the guests were quite refreshing. It was my first time at the POLO, and we had a good time.

My favourite Minister Mbaks, dissapointed me with that outfit. He looks like one of those old school gangsters who like mixing Vernac with english and Afrikaans. You know, like Papa G from Isidingo. Jy ken my leitie.

That lady with that white guy at the end is very pretty!

So obviously the Jozi leg of the Polo was better than the Durban leg. I still had a great time with virtual unknowns and I like the Polo now.

    You looked great Lelo.

  14. Mathaz on Mon, 3rd Sep 2012 9:29 am

I like the orange skirt worn by the white lady. The lady in the last picture also looks nice. BS your dress is too gorgeous.

Yes BS please do interview Wendy and please ask her how she is doing, if she is still getting business deals, considering that Mbazima is out in the cold now.

  47. Monei on Mon, 3rd Sep 2012 1:10 pm

for someone without eyebrows, Vuyi doesn’t look odd. normally its pretty shocking- like when christina yang shaved her eyebrows off for her wedding le the black dude.

  48. Monei on Mon, 3rd Sep 2012 1:11 pm

Aaaah! so that’s what u decided to wear Ms Zie! good choice! and ur noombies look beautifully motorboatable :-D

  49. Raquel on Mon, 3rd Sep 2012 1:20 pm

Why do people shave off their eyebrows though? I will never understand.

  50. Loulou on Mon, 3rd Sep 2012 1:30 pm

@Raquel some people just don’t have eyebrows and others really like drawing them back on in the shape they like as opposed to their natural ones…

I’d rather draw them on nicely than have bushy unshaped brows *pukes*

  51. Raquel on Mon, 3rd Sep 2012 2:29 pm

But for those that do have them, why not tweez, thread, wax or shave them to the shape that you want instead of shaving off the entire bush and still start with the drawing? Such admin.

#Deathby ‘DENIAL’ in fear of JC Bloggers. We feel untouchable when we hide behind names to diss others but we are very scared of revealing ourselves. Kwa kwa kwa kwa

I was at the Polo too. LMFAO!!!

  58. Loulou on Mon, 3rd Sep 2012 3:17 pm

How did you get the photobooth pics or is there a website?

  59. Ms.Zie on Mon, 3rd Sep 2012 3:21 pm

Raquel babe, I’m talking abt the eyebrow comment. I’ve just never had, a-sparse naturally. That’s why I sighed at your assumption. I’m not denying anything. These aren’t very flattering pics of myself but that’s not the biggest prob, I was still enjoying the anonymous blogging.

  60. sxylin on Mon, 3rd Sep 2012 3:26 pm

So a friend sent me Khany’s book via dhl, all I can say is hehehe, SMH….. Khany’s view on life is sooo naive, and the part where her and Mandla would go to FNB and the employees would watch them leave with lots of money in bags I was omg this kid so they didn’t even have a private banker , they carried 50grand in cash! And Mandla’s mum didn’t have a spare bed hahaha I would have thought she could call anyone to deliver a bed at her in law’s , tjo and the Epilogue yooooh LMAO!

  61. sxylin on Mon, 3rd Sep 2012 3:29 pm

all I can say is JC bloggers shame dont miss a thing. I looked at that picture several times and I didn’t notice a thing.

  68. sxylin on Mon, 3rd Sep 2012 4:11 pm

Nooooo @zenzybear not worth it! Just bootleg it hahaha I’m sorry I’m kidding u can buy if u have extra few rands to spare it would be good to borrow though lol! It’s badly written the intro amateurish but I’m no Fundi I literally forced myself to read it, but to be honest there is really nothing on there you haven’t read on the news except maybe that Khanyi has a heritage from far over the seas in Fiji I think lol but hahaha aiii no! That book SMH , she really thinks she lived the life hey!!

  69. Gomolemo on Mon, 3rd Sep 2012 4:11 pm

  82. Monei on Mon, 3rd Sep 2012 5:07 pm

I figured @Raquel is talking abt the ppl who do shave. u can see that Vuyi’s r naturally like that. as in, there r eyebrows nyana there. shavers wud never forget to draw their eyebrows. never. they’d rather rock marron str8 lines as eyebrows than just leave them. my high school teacher used to make girls wash the drawn ones off ka sunlight dishwasher. after her class they wud just go and draw them back on.

  83. Loulou on Mon, 3rd Sep 2012 5:47 pm
