A Few Trends We Need To Let Go
October 23, 2012 by Zamani Khethelo
When it comes to fashion or what’s trendy, I am usually the last person on board. The only place I have my A game on point is when it comes to head gear, caps, hats etc. I have had an obsession with caps and hats since I was probably six years old.
I recently had a conversation with one of my young’uns to find out what’s in and out these are his “Don’t Do’s for the summer, since he is passionate about fashion/ style etc.
Its always good for us oldies to be kept in the loop of what’s hip or not happening, so this is what my boy Lebo Mathosa had to say; (And yes that is his God-Given ID name, born before Boom Shaka hit the scene, so there’s no link to the late Lebo Mathosa, who left us on this day six years ago; 23 October 2006)
Before I give young Mathosa the platform can I just ask; was there a “buy one and get free pairs of maroon chinos for your entire clan”, sale somewhere out there?
Gosh, they are like the latest uniform.
Can we just stop it already?
Colour blocking
Okay it was all fun and games in the beginning, but it’s really gotten out of hand now, can we stop it already, it’s a trend for a reason, just there for a little while and we get over it.
Leopard print
Hookers have written a cease and desist letter for the nation and I am personally handling their case as this is a personal jab to their career, how are they supposed to get customers? Stop wearing leopard print, its hooker uniform and don’t tell me you wear it in a classy manner, when last did you watch jerseylicious and think “Wow they are sooo sophisticated and sh!t” ?
Skhotane fever
On this I would like to pose a few questions.
- Were you abused ?
- Are you a thief ?
- Do you enjoy having securtity guards follow you at malls ?
If you answered yes, go spoil your self in Spitz and get a DMD while you at it, because you are worth it. And why do u hate the world and Ultramel ?
Weaves
Weaves that look like wigs
Ladies if it looks like it can be adjusted in one go , walk out the salon without paying and get in a tub and drown your sorrows and the creature that’s growing on your hair. Bonang’s hairline did not hitch hike for this Come On!.
Dye
Nicky Minaj , Jermina , Chris Brown , Sipho Ngwenya , Rihanna , all have dyed hair , but only 2 have a Inecto budget. Could you please stop dying your hair at HOME? Not only do you end up looking homeless you just look dirty, its not cute, it’s not even acceptable go to the salon and le bo lena ba di weave tsa di colour, we see you in that corner.
Why they make lime green hair piece is beyond me, but why you buy it is beyond stupid, but 2 wrongs don’t make a right especially when it’s on your head .

Miss2phly on Tue, 23rd Oct 2012 1:38 am
Thank you, re utlwile ka colour blocking. Guys who wear lime, yellow, red, orange etc pants in the name of colour blocking have a special place in hell.
E2_Mash on Tue, 23rd Oct 2012 1:39 am
I personally don’t rock Leopard print but its a classic print that u need to keep nyana, not the print from pep or mr price that ppl wear from head to toe…lmao!!! There is a proper leopard print that ppl rock once in a while n it looks good , coz they know how to make it work!!!! As I said ke Classic….

Lela on Tue, 23rd Oct 2012 2:58 am
Hayi shem i give up i am just not into fashion nje, could never try that colour blocking for anything hayi. Then the green yellow red blazers from down town with rolled up sleeves. Then the striped dresses from china town n generations. Then the long at the back short at the front things. I will not be seen in any of those. Just give me normal clothes that don’t look like uniform. But i dye my hair at home and it turns out fine and im sure u can agree to that Zamani unless u were lying to me when yout old me i look good with this hair, hehehehheh!
Lela on Tue, 23rd Oct 2012 3:00 am
And these fruit shoes. I do have one pair but it’s not so fruity hayi ngeke kudlaliwe ngengane zabantu!

There’s a girl at the Law Society oh my goodness, Colour Blocking every flipping day, everytime I see her I wish i could just sit her down for a heart to heart. She looks silly.
lolington kwaaa on Tue, 23rd Oct 2012 5:05 am
I am clearly no fashion/trend follower and would rather wear the normal clothes that stay in style forever if possible…….but as clueless as I am I agree with everything in this article. We have seen enough, we have heard enough thank you very much.
As for skhothanes, hehehehehe #deathby the questions……those ones just need prayer.
Whoever started that lace wig trend is going to HELL sooner than they think.

Yes we can all say phansi mara what r people supposed to wear when all U c when u go shopping is the same thing. I hvnt been shopn in a very longtime coz all I c is colour blocking nd mullets. Babyluv on Tue, 23rd Oct 2012 6:00 am
Colour blocking makes me nauseous(sp). Yoh Lela those blazers neh, everywhere you go you will see them. And the worst is wearing green n red. Hahahahahaha those maroon chinos. But i like it when a person colour blocks pastels
bongi on Tue, 23rd Oct 2012 6:14 am

Miss_SK on Tue, 23rd Oct 2012 6:26 am
COLOUR BLOCKING *sigh* its very difficult to find something decent to wear these days for some of us. Clothes are either colour blocking or cropped!! Designers and tailors should stop making these!!
Thabure on Tue, 23rd Oct 2012 6:34 am
mara chinos are the is I dont care who says what …the brightest I went for is the reddish-maroon ….
yeah bosisi bama dye ..it looks good on some people like bo Lela coz ba classy vele…mara da rest haai
Zoe on Tue, 23rd Oct 2012 6:42 am
Those work at the back; party at the front skirts are gonna be the end of me.
Is there a point to the mid-drift showing, Billy Blank gym/ Dora the Explorer tops? I just don’t get it.
While we’re on the weaves, can people get proper hair pieces? You could swear sifuye izinja in the office with all the hair people shed.
Zoe on Tue, 23rd Oct 2012 6:45 am
Kodwa the G2G trend for this season has to be those Georgie Zamdela blouses. The ones with chain patterns and flowers that don’t exist in nature. Akubona ububi lobu!
Gloss on Tue, 23rd Oct 2012 6:54 am
Hello
I see the latest trends are the chain prints, (versace) first introduced it. if by skhothane look you’re talking about prints “lebo mathosa” you’re plain crazy. Then kgu tswana le huri you’re saying fashion as a whole must disappear.
Wedges must go! Sorry guys, wedges are not at all sexy. Nkari you’re wearing stina, a brick. Into the dustbin they go.
Doeks, we get that “natural” is on its way back in and abo Ericka Badu, Solange, are pulling it off, but you standing there looking like Mam’Louisa from sgudy’s nice isn’t hot at all.
Red lips, please pack this away with your leopard print.
Turtle shades are what’s hot, please get frames that suit your face.
Oh another got to F*** off item is the bow tie! Gays, please burn them manje, not k’sasa, manje. Nantsi iPariffin.
The 90′s look is what’s best right now, denim’s, leather’s, the rockstar look with the gold chains and writings on the Tees. Short denims, cut, skinny’s. I like that.
lwandie on Tue, 23rd Oct 2012 7:15 am
If you ever find yourself dithering about whether to get a lace front wig or not , just take a moment to recall Sandy Ngema’s wedding pictures **Shivers**.
The best “trends” are timeless pieces: shift dresses, classic white shirt, well fitting pair of jeans, little black dress,Mac coat, etc…personally I’d rather have a capsule wardrobe with a few good quality clothes than a whole wardrobe of so called on season stuff.
.…loving the Victoria Victoria Beckham label, Mrs B is really starting to hold her own as a designer.
Gloss on Tue, 23rd Oct 2012 7:19 am
I forgort to mention that in the same fire with the bow ties, please throw in your suspenders/braces and white socks!

Leggings should also go, those things are thrashy man especially the transparent ones that people rock with small tops that show off their sagging bottoms! I just cringe really @ this sight! Whoever came up with the leggings concept never meant for them to be used as pants toe! Also let go of these harlem pants….yesses they are fugly! Add the duke while at it. Imbi lento be it in fashion!
guccifab1 on Tue, 23rd Oct 2012 8:07 am

elegnamis on Tue, 23rd Oct 2012 8:09 am
Dumelang in the morning.
Another trend that needs to go… folk who write setswana words the same way they’d pronounce them if they were zulu words… please note that the vowels u & i are seldom used in setswana.
@gloss “go tshwana le gore”

Those going on about Victoria Beckham’s line must know she only makes clothes for size 0 and 2′s. Not for the fat community. So before you guys get excited, nawa ama duromine ne true beauty. and no, leggings are here to stay, on small bodies tu, if you’re a fatty boom boom, lay off.

@Cutie, do u mean Harem pants? Those are best suited on girls with large hips.
Another thing, cleavage. I understand you’ve got big boobs that bring you tons of male attention, but if your boobs like they’re about to tsulukga (spill over) its best you wear good support. Do not wear shorts if you have cottage cheese thighs (cellulite), stretchmarks or stab wounds. We can do without your vezithanga contrivution.

A critic is:
anyone who expresses a value judgment. Informally, criticism is a common aspect of all human expression and need not necessarily imply skilled or accurate expressions of judgment. Critical judgments, good or bad, may be positive (in praise of an object of attention), negative (in dispraise), or balanced (weighing a combination of factors both for and against).
Since all criticism must be regarded as having a purpose, a critic may also be definable by his or her specific motivation.
At its simplest, and for whatever reason, a critic may have either constructive or destructive intent.
~let other kids critic please~

@OSS, tlogela the other child tlhe. let her play as she wants. we have space for devil’s advocates, rebels, whatever and whomever.
nna i’ve already met Ayanda- she confused me for a mad person. seems to believe non-silent bloggers are all attentionseekers. Ironic. kana maybe i misunderstand shim. either, i got a hug for u and ur critique since u’r not into tea.

@Hunt, you’ve been wanting to go back to silentfontein. Why mara?
Pixie on Tue, 23rd Oct 2012 4:12 pm
No Ayanda2 you cannot be serious. You need to know that there’s NO truth in spilling things out..That was not “truth tea”,what you did instead was attack someone..And Botshelo yes, motho can be a critic but they need to at least make sense and be honest about their motives..That was just down right bashing..Bashing..Attacking someone and NOT their art.which is wrong..
OhSoStunning on Tue, 23rd Oct 2012 4:15 pm
@Hunt if you go to silentville i wont give you my email so i can give you my 10′s *Blackmail*
